Jeyten Dres
"Force has an annoying way of pushing you into doing shab you don't want to do."
— Jeyten Dres
Jeyten Dres was a Force-sensitive human male mechanic, bartender, explorer and one-time smuggler. Hailing from the planet Nar Shadda, he was the descendant of a Jedi Knight that fought during the Clone Wars, Jey initially rejected his Force-sensitivity and aimed to keep his head down and live out his life on Nar Shaddaa unnoticed. Until he was forced to reveal the truth about himself, leading him to fleeing Nar Shaddaa and going on a journey to discover more about himself as well as find his father.
Early Life
Cayne explained that their ancestor escaped the Purge and went into hiding before falling in love and having a daughter, his daughter was Force-sensitive like himself and he began secretly training her in hopes of rebuilding the Jedi Order and overthrowing the Galactic Empire - however, he was discovered and killed by the Inquisitors before he could complete their training. Before his death, he left his damaged lightsaber to his daughter. That lightsaber became an heirloom in their family and for generations, it had been passed down and eventually ended up with Cayne.
After processing the revelation about his family's history and the discovery of his Force-sensitivity - Jey was ready, willing and eager to being learning more about the Force from his father. Cayne and Jey kept their Force-sensitivity a secret as to not risk being captured by the town's new Hutt rulers and forced to serve under them. Cayne trained Jey for four years in how to use the Force and how to use a melee weapon before abruptly leaving Jey and Annaya without a word, only leaving their family's damaged lightsaber behind. Hurt, confused and angry at his father leaving them for no reason - Jey turned his hatred inward and detested the Force that was inside him and his family's connection to the Jedi, that day Jey opted to block and ignore his connection to the Force by any means necessary. Five years later, Annaya was the only one supporting their family and a year later she fell ill before dying shortly after. Now alone in the galaxy, Jey hated his father as well for abandoning him and his mother and causing her to work herself to death to support him.
Party Phase
Jey would find some companionship, even though it was only surface level, with his co-workers at a new job with a repair service where he specialised in fixing or upgrading air speeders. After their shifts were over at the repair service, Jey and his co-workers would spend their nights at the clubs - partying, picking up girls (or guys, Jey didn't judge) and consuming alcohol and death sticks. Even if it was brief, it was his only form of happiness.
Discovery
On a seemingly normal day after closing up shop and getting ready to hit the club with his co-workers - Jey felt a strange feeling in his chest but ignored it, little did he know that this was his connection to the Force beginning to restore itself and it was warning him that his life was about to change forever. Jey's night resumed as normal, he decided not to consume any alcohol or death sticks that night as he had to be the designated driver and get everyone home alive. While leaving the club, Jey and the crew took a shortcut through an alley way to get to their speeder truck - inside the alley way, they were stopped by three thugs with blasters and a vibro knife. Jey attempted to deescalate the situation with humour but his drunken friends began mouthing off and standing up to the thugs which resulted in the situation to escalate.
Arriving at the clinic, Jey waited in the waiting room while his other friends stayed with the injured. With his secret out, feeling shame and disgust within himself - the young man was visited by an apparition or a hallucination from his Jedi ancestor, explaining that it was time to face his destiny. While not fully agreeing or ready to face his "destiny" - he understood that he had to leave Nar Shaddaa, in case the Hutts discovered him. Jey left without saying a word, went to his apartment, packed his bags, stole a freighter from the repair shop and left the planet in the dead of night. Unsure of where he needed to go, he knew he needed to think of what he was going to do next in his life.
Personality and traits
Despite his lighthearted nature on the surface, Jey is very outspoken and tends to speak his mind a lot - regardless of who he is addressing, if you were a bum or a noble, he wouldn't hesitate to reveal his true feelings. His outspoken nature also translates into his flirting, if Jey is attracted to a person or not - he'll be sure to let you know.
Because of his age, Jey is immature, brash, cocky, impatient and proud. He also has a tendency to recklessly jump head forward into danger at the expense of his own safety without thinking of any potential repercussions, through sheer luck, he has survived most of his dangerous exploits. Jey is also very emotional, in the sense that he follows his heart more than his head and is more likely to react to things emotionally instead of rationally. He cares deeply for the people close to him and would risk his life at any given moment to save them. Jey's re-connection to the Force has opened him up more to the temptations of the Dark side, although he desperately tries to reject its allure, it is an uphill battle.
Powers and abilities
Since rebuilding his family lightsaber and attaining his father's journal, Jey has begun using it to train himself to use a lightsaber in combat. Jey's style of combat is influenced by both Ataru and Djem So. The Mandalorian Song Wren has described his skills with a blade as fast, strong, and graceful. Similarly to a Jedi or Sith, Jey's ongoing self-training has made him more athletic than the average person.
Growing up on Nar Shaddaa, Jey knows how to defend himself - with his fists or with a blaster. Engaging in many street fights in his youth, and frequent drunken cantina brawls in his late teens; Jey is quite adept in hand-to-hand, while not professionally trained, his tactics rely on dirty manoeuvres, such as scratching, biting, spitting, throwing objects - anything to disorient and defeat his foe. Regarding a blaster, however, Jey's skills with a blaster are moderate at best. He's not a sharp shooter but he isn't clueless either, he knows how to work a blaster and how to shoot an enemy - that's all, no fancy stuff. Anything to get the job done.
Jey's piloting skills are above average due to his Force-sensitivity. He is a very skilled mechanic, being taught the trade in his youth by his mother. Being raised on Nar Shaddaa, Hutta Town specifically, Jey is practically fluent in Huttese and has also picked up some other languages too but it isn't as proficient as his ability to speak Basic and Huttese. Ever since acquiring 4EY-18, Jey has begun to pick up binary.
Equipment
- Yellow Lightsaber - Jey carried a damaged lightsaber hilt that's inoperable, the lightsaber was wielded by Jey's ancestor and was heavily damaged during his final stand against the Inquisitors. Jey carries this damaged lightsaber to feel connected to his family. However, he repaired it in Bountiful and is now his primary weapon.
- 'Explorer Outfit' - Jey's default outfit, he now wears this during his travels.
- 2x DL-18 blaster pistol - Jey was given this blaster by a co-worker as protection living in Nar Shaddaa. He obtained a second one off of the Quarren mercenary Segarr on Corellia during The Great Escape.
- Datapad - During his travels to explore Jedi and other Force-sensitive temples, he decided it would be useful to carry a datapad.
- Kath Hound - A YT-2000 Light Freighter that Jey 'fairly' won in a totally legitimate Sabacc game on Ryloth in between the events of Paying your Debts and Sugar and Spice and Everything Not Nice.
- Cayne Dres journal - A journal left behind for Jey in the Temple of Eedit. It contains all of Cayne's research, thoughts, knowledge of the Force and their techniques, lightsaber construction and how to wield one, as well as lightsaber combat. Jey theorises this was left for him as some sort of contingency in the likelihood that he never became a Jedi.
- 4EY-18 'Scouty' - A 4EY series scout droid that Jey discovered in the ruins of the Temple of Eedit. They both learned that 4EY-18 was previously owned by Cayne and left for Jey to aid him in his search for his father.
