DESCRIPTION
The YT-2000 transport, was a model of freighter in the YT-series conceived by Corellian Engineering Corporation. The YT-2000 was a saucer-shaped starship, 29.4 meters in length, with a centrally positioned cockpit sandwiched between two large mandibles. The cockpit extended past the mandibles, providing the pilot with a clearer, unobstructed view, unlike certain other YT-series freighter with this central cockpit configuration. The standard cockpit also doubled as a lifeboat that could break away from the ship in an emergency.

Conceived as a "next generation" replacement for the YT-1300 light freighter, which had been a staple of CEC's catalog for decades at that point, the YT-2000 had a lukewarm reception when it finally hit the market after the Clone Wars. Pilots and journalists decried the new model as "touchy," with unrefined handling and a lack of the care and thoughtfulness which had gone into previous YTs. Rumors abounded that the YT-2000 had been rushed into production after an act of industrial espionage leaked the design to several of CEC's competitors, forcing the design team to rush the final touches before the YT-2000's best features could start showing up on rival products.

At the time of its introduction, the YT-2000 boasted impressive specifications, including better passenger and cargo capacity than the YT-1300, a heavier armament, a higher stock top speed and a slightly smaller profile. Ultimately, however, this was not enough to move units; the YT-2000 was significantly out-sold by the older YT-1300, with most pilots opting to stick with a proven, reliable model than what amounted to a half-baked prototype rushed into series production.

As a result, over a century later, YT-2000s are a relative rarity. Unlike the older YT-1300, which still has a vast and dedicated community of fans and owners, and is still supported by official parts networks, YT-2000s benefit from almost none of this. Those few that remain in service have become increasingly difficult to maintain; notably, the once-impressive drive system on nearly all surviving YT-2000s has worked on or swapped out. After 110,000 parsecs, it was discovered they had the alarming tendency to start ingesting bits of themselves without frequent, extensive preventative maintenance.

LEGALITY
Legal. Light freighters such as the YT-2000 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To create a standard civilian transport.
