It is the 41st Millenium. For more than 300 centuries
the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Terra.
He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master
of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He
is a rotting carcass, writhing invisibly with power from the Dark
Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium
for whom a million souls are sacrificed every day, so that he
may truly never die.
Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his
eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested
miasma of the Warp, the only path between distant stars,
their way lit by the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's Will
known as the Astronomicon. Vast armies wage war in His name on
uncountable worlds. Greatest among His soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes,
the Space Marines; bioengineered warriors, created to be the pinnacle of His
Divine Might. Their comrades in arms are legion, the untold numbers of the Astra Militarum,
and countless Planetary Defense Forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition
and the Tech-Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name but a few.
But, for all their multitude, there are barely enough to ward the
Imperium of Mankind from the ever-present threats from heretics, aliens,
mutants...and worse.
To be a man, a mere human, in such times is to be one among untold billions.
It is to live in the cruelest and bloodiest regime imaginable. The power of technology
and science has been all but lost and forgotten, never to be relearned. Progress and understanding
are fantasy concepts, for there is no peace among the stars; only an eternity of carnage and slaughter,
carried out to the laughter of thirsting gods and corrupting demons.
To be a man in these times is to live a life of duty, of devotion, of piety, of courage, and of loss.
For in the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millenium...
There is Only War.

Devout Souls of Imperial World Hesperus,
By the grace of Our Lord, the Emperor of Mankind, the Imperial World of Hesperus has been sanctioned by decree of the High Lords of Terra to raise a standing force of Imperial Guardsmen in the honor of Reclusiarch Merek Grimaldus' victory on Armeggedon to fight in honor of His Benevolent Light, and stand in defense of His Holy Throne and those who follow the Truth of His Wisdom.
For a thousand years, the Emperor's Faithful of Hesperus have delivered fair tithe to the Imperium and paid proper homage to Our Lord the Emperor. For your toil in the adamantium mines that first brought mankind to your world's surface, worked by your hands and the hands of your ancestors to provide material for the Emperor's Servants, we grant each of you the Right of Servitude to form the first regiments borne of the Devout Souls of Imperial World Hesperus.
Hesperus shall be the mother of the 1st Hesperan Legion, and the citizens' faith in the Emperor its father. Should you decide to take the Right of Servitude and swear your oath to defend the Emperor and His Flock, this Enlistment Seal must be precompleted before you are screened by the medicae.
Praise be to the Emperor, and may He guide us in all things,
Planetary Governor Leonis Paizus

Hesperus
Hesperus is a relatively young world, only approximately one billion years old compared to the nearly five billion of Holy Terra. Geologically stable, Hesperus is larger than Terra and a planet of rugged mountains and wilderness, broken up by the Mine-Hives that drill deep into the planet's core to bring precious adamantium to the surface before being star-lifted to one of two orbital stations, Divine Pillar or Indomitable, to be transported to the Imperium's Forge Worlds for processing.
Despite its main economy of ore, unlike many worlds Hesperus has maintained its rugged beauty, and much of its surface is considered unsettled. Home to billions, a large majority of the population are farmers, fisherman, hunters, and other such simple folk that live their lives in relative peace, while other portions are made up by industrialists, space-borne, and other such sub-cultures. There are also the Mine-Hives; huge, industrial cities that work to pollute the air with their ceaseless production, and it is here that most of the crime on Hesperus is found, where the security forces of the Hives dare not delve too deeply below the surface to keep order. There are slso the orbital stations, where a few hundred thousand souls live in the void of space, kept tethered to the surface by the massive orbital lifts that transport ore from the surface to space for shipping. It is said that every soul in the Imperium can find a home in Hesperus, no doubt because of its variety of topography and settlements.
Imperial Outpost Raros - The home of the First Hesperan Legion, Outpost Raros is a large plot of land near the center of Hesperus' main continental body, walled to keep out civilians and lightly defended by a small security force of Guardsmen from a variety of units until the Hesperan's are fully trained to perform the duties themselves. By no means impregnable, the 20 meter outer walls poured from duracrete rise out of the forests like small mountains, and inside are all the necessity's needed to house and train a regiment; vehicle bays, landing pads, an armory, mess hall, and barracks are just a few of the commodities within its perimeter, while leaving to the south has plenty of space for firing drills. Tiny in comparison to any Imperial Fortress, only four flak batteries stand ready to defend against aerial attack in the off chance the planet is attacked.
For two months, Outpost Raros has been run by the various officers and soldiers who have taken the initial recruits of Hesperus and begun forming them into a fighting force. For some time, there was confusion as to who to promote to be the commanding officer, however, rumor has spread that the Astra Militarum has promoted an off-worlder to serve in the position...a fact not all Hesperans have welcomed.
