Three hours ago...
"These asteroids were able to crash through orbital installments put in place to prevent such disasters, but fortunately it appears that this event is a random - albeit unfortunate - occurrence."
The newswoman turned to gesture to the massive asteroid behind her, partially sunken into the broken earth around her, and surrounded by fire. Teams of first responders could be seen evacuating injured civilians, and teams of firefighters were battling the flames that arose from the impact.
"But, as you can see here, authorities have things under contr—"
"THEY'RE COMING FROM INSIDE! SHOOT! SHOOT NOW!"
The camera shot over to the base of the asteroid, where hundreds of Killiks could be seen swarming from the underside of the space rock. Before the cameras were cut, the image of Killiks both small and large hacking and slashing into the firefighters and first responders could be seen. Despite the personnel on scene, the Corellians were greatly outnumbered by the ever-growing crowds of Killiks joining them on the ruined city streets.
An armed man ran up to the news reporter and shouted at her to follow him, and the broadcast defaulted back to the horrified faces of the news anchors. One of them managed to regain their composure enough to stammer out the ad break transition.
"Um, we will- We will return to Fleur once we know she's-" He cleared his throat and started over. "We will return after a short break from one of our sponsors."
"EMYRC ENERGY! ENOUGH ENERGY TO FUEL A—! ..."
Present time...
Three hours later and hours of footage of various other attacks happening across the planet, Fleur Wescott made her return to the Corellia news broadcast in the belly of an armed transport ship flying over the city.
"This is Fleur Wescott, here to bring you the latest news in rain, shine, or assault. We're in the skies above the Energy District right now, where it appears the Killiks are closing in on Corellia's nuclear core. Security forces are gathered to contest their advancement but are currently hesitating to engage in full force as the bugs have taken non-Joined civilians as hostages to use them as physical shields against responders.
"Authorities are afraid of what may happen if the Killiks reach the Core plant because as we all know, the plant is the main source of power for over half of Corellia shipyards and the entirety of Coronet City. If we don't stop them in time..."
For the first time since the attacks began, worried lines creased Fleur's forehead, and her eyes shifted away from the camera.
"...a nuclear explosion could kill billions and destroy or ruin entire districts, material stockpiles, and shipbuilding equipment with ungodly amounts of radiation.
"If you are watching this from home, please immediately and quickly follow any instructions from your local authorities to evacuate yourself and your families. Do not drink or eat anything you do not know the origins of, and beware of the Joiners."

On the ground, under the roof, and on the steps of the Core, security forces gathered to defend the nuclear power plant from the approaching Killik assault. An emergency broadcast had been sent out, asking indiscriminately for help from anyone fit and willing to defend the Core. Those who had responded to the call were being very quickly briefed on the severity of the situation by an officer.
"If those bugs get in here and get their way, billions are going to die. This city will be leveled for miles and miles, and we will lose the heart of our shipbuilding industry. We have to do whatever we can to prevent them from getting to the reactor without harming any hostage civilians."
