Romeo had been watching patiently as the other defenders moved ahead to engage the galactic threat. These killiks certainly moved faster as they rapidly approached into range of his blaster rifle. The Mandalorian had not yet voiced an opinion regarding saving the hostages, though he personally believed that if it was not too risky to put others lives in jeopardy, they should make an attempt to rescue the children. The concept of them being already "joiners" ran across his mind though for the time being, it would be a bridge he'd cross at a later bridge.

As the monsters came into range, Romeo hit the flight button on his jetpack and rocketed forwards, armored boots skidding back onto the ground about 100 meters away from the creatures. Swapping to combat mode, he brought the Disruptor rifle upwards and took aim, and fired several times. The first two shots were aimed towards the mid-torso of one of the tainted killiks while four more shots were scattered at the center mass of four respective regular Killiks, charging towards the platform. Fingers swapped onto the concussion rocket button, activating the projectile but yet did not fire, waiting for the perfect opportunity.

Romeo is firing a total of six shots, while nearing to a 100meter position from the bugs. First two shots are the tainted Killik, 4 shots (one shot each) at center mass of 4 regular killiks

The first shot rang out. Bast braced her elbow to minimize the recoil. There was a sudden absence in the noise afterwards, and she realized she had sent the first bolt. It had landed true, thankfully. The death of the Killik would have been painless and quick, just as she had wanted. It did not matter who she was fighting against, she would kill cleanly. They might use children as shields, but there was no way in hell the Captain would bow to their level. If anything, the creatures did not deserve more than a fleeting thought while she aimed.

Then the chaos began. The first line of melee fighters engaged. Yelling and shouting filled the ringing silence. Blades of all sheens glinted and ignited. It appeared as if a force user had managed to free some of the hostages by way of launching sheet metal. Briefly she considered what had been said about joiners, but right now, there was hardly a safe space to keep them contained. Instead, she motioned for any approaching children to get behind her. They were unarmed children and therefore the least of the threats, though she would occasionally glance behind to make sure none ran off should they come.

Bast looked at what had been left at her feet. Unfortunately, the woman’s training was in investigation, not weapons, so while she recognized the model, she had little idea on how to use it. If she recalled her training correctly, the weapon was efficient but not accurate, therefore not an ideal pick for the incoming swarm. Nevertheless, Bast kept it near as a last resort. As much as she hated to think on it, if the invaders got past her and into the power plant, dead children would not be a concern.

Refocusing on the scene before her, Bast once again raised her blaster and fired two more bolts at the head of a killik directly behind one holding a hostage, but unprotected itself.

Bast attempts to get some of the hostages to stay behind her in safety, though she does monitor them if they come. She then fires two shots to the head of a killik behind a shielded killik in the center group

** On the steps of the Core. **
[@LouJoVi @Richie B. @Phoenix @Kestrel @The Good Doctor @Faded @Sicadorito @Timmen @Nor'baal @Altaris @Tom]

@Varyn Atrix rushed forward to attack and would succeed in his dispatching of the first bug. The second would go as he planned as well, but right before the Killik was slain, it would drop the child in favor of swinging its forearm toward Varyn like a heavy club. It wouldn't be difficult to dodge, but without any interference on his end, the arm would swing directly into the child instead. Likewise, @Quin Leonkri saw similar success. He was able to cut down both bugs with enough effort, freeing both kids, but also freeing himself up to be targeted. Three more Killiks descended upon the padawan, and as they were without hostages, swung at him with their bladed staffs. Two aimed for his chest and one at his legs, all three hoping to deal with the Jedi quickly. The children that both of them freed would do their best to run toward the steps.

@Wayson Hanson would have no issue slicing through the Killik in the middle group and freeing the child in its arms. Upon release, the kid would immediately begin to bawl while running toward the steps, clearly in immense amounts of distress. Though Wayson was waiting for another Killik to come at him, he would spot the Killiks in the right-most group three advancing quickly on the Core. The CorSec soldiers had turned their attention to that side, but still would not fire where they could potentially hit children, and thus the Killiks were gaining ground on them. In the meantime, two Killiks would descend upon Wayon and slash at him with their bladed spears.

@Caerllion of Cyfnos' blade would slice through the head of the Killik in the middle group he descended upon, freeing the child within its grasp. She opened her mouth to cry out, and Caerllion would quickly realize that her legs were badly injured. "Mister, please!" she cried, holding herself with crossed arms. "I'm scared!"

@Grerse'dava'nlon's stun bolts hit the left-most Tainted Killik square in the chest, causing the bug to succumb to the stun. It wobbled, then fell over to its left, crushing five or six Killiks underneath it as it fell. Other Killiks nearby scattered, leaving several openings for anyone to fire in and take advantage of the chaos.

With a bit of effort, @Laeonas Tannaras was able to rip one of the Killiks in the middle group off of its feet and move in to finish it off. His second attack freed the child and was also successful. The kid ran off toward the stairs, still wailing. Similarly, both of @Vahliri Kahtal's attacks against the Killik in the middle group would result in the death of the bug and the freeing of the child. Both she and Laeo would have a brief moment of respite from the advancing bugs, in which they might also be able to notice the Killiks from group one getting dangerously close to the steps of the Core.

@Romeo Solus had brought a beast to the battle. His Disrupter tore right into the chitin of one of the Tainted Killiks in group one, blowing a chuck out of its side. The thing stumbled forward, clearly injured, but not done with. The other four shots he sent out completely eviscerated four advancing Killiks, turning them into burning ash.

@Bast Emblai called for the hostages to get behind her as eleven or so kids finally scrambled up the steps in various conditions. Some were crying, some were hyperventilating, and some were eerily calm with flat, traumatized eyes that dragged along the ground. A soldier quickly called @Logna over, yelling out, "Hey, you! Get these kids inside and find a place for them to get out of the way!" That same soldier tossed him a pistol from his belt after noticing the man was unwisely unarmed.

** Ship stuff. **
[@SlagathorTheUnknown]

@Bryce Callaway was able to return to the battlefield just after the fighting began, and he was successfully able to target and pick up a Tainted Killik with his tractor beam from the middle group two. It flailed its legs around as it was lifted, but the two shots from Bryce's ship took care of that rather quickly. He couldn't be sure if the thing was dead or too injured to move, but it was certainly out of the fight.

Unfortunately for the pilot of the ship, some of the Killiks from the ground had taken to the Tainted One's legs and had begun to climb their way up toward his ship. They were quick little buggers, and a few would make it to the head of the creature before Bryce could react. Five of them leapt straight into the air, and from their backs, beetle-like wings began to buzz with a furry as they closed the distance between them and Bryce's ship. Their pinches stretched out, and they latched onto various places on the hull.

Meanwhile, Bast's shots would hit squarely into the Killik's head, turning his brains into brain jelly.

While the defensive forces focused their efforts mainly on the middle and left-most groups, the Killiks in the right-most group would continue to advance forward. The CorSec soldiers noticed and focused their energy there, but weren't quite enough to slow the bugs' advance with the hostages in the way. One Tainted Killik, in particular, began maneuvering its way forward, stepping around the smaller Killiks on the ground.

If y' all don't mind, think about specifying which group your character is attacking in. I did my best to put people where I thought they were above, but if you move around, even a "Name attacks a Killik (group 1)" would be helpful since there are so many bugs and so many of you!

There was too much going on for Varyn to effectively track everyone else that had come to help, but the bugs in his immediate vicinity were very much on his radar. Not only that, the Force was flowing at its peak through him now. He'd always loved fighting, and his doubts regarding the war between Jedi and Sith weren't present now. The bugs were just objectively a problem, and so his blood was pumping with the thrill of the fight.

He fell back on his Form X movements. The style had always emphasized small movements of the arm and wrist over these big, over-telegraphed strikes of so many of the other saber forms. For this reason, his defense against the creature was... well, it was simple. That was the strength of Form X: its simplicity was its elegance.

His saber had just slashed downward a moment earlier on the creature, and as it swung, he continued his arc. It would end up where the slash had begun on the first bug, saber pointing toward the ground this time and in front of him. The arm-club-thing would slam against the saber, but tear free against the superheated plasma. Effectively, Varyn had blocked it, but because it wasn't resistant to a lightsaber, it was far more devastating than just blocking a blade.

The defense should, theoretically, also protect the kid as well as the bug would begin to strike its death throes from the Shadow's earlier successful strike.

Go! Out of the fight! he shouted to the kid and pointed in the direction the others were fleeing. Oh, he really, really, really hoped they weren't mind-infected.

A moment later, he was moving again, this time in the direction to help @Quin Leonkri who was being swarmed by multiple creatures. Varyn's saber slashed quickly, looking to catch at least one or two of them with a quick flank from the side. Unfortunately, it seemed that for every bug they killed, two more took its place.

You good? he shouted to the Jedi, eyes flashing back to try to get a gauge of the battle. Where they were strong and what needed reinforcement. And how many more enemies there were.

Varyn does some fancy saber moves to block/cut off the arm of the bug swiping at him and hopefully save both himself and the kid (then tells the kid to get to safetyish). He then attacks the bugs attacking Quin to try to alleviate some pressure there. Finally, he tries to get an overall picture of the battle and how they may need to readjust.

To his relief, his blows struck where he’d intended, and the Killiks before him fell at his feet as the two hostages were let go of their pincers, relatively unharmed. They looked shaken up, but Quin knew they couldn’t afford to stay in the front lines for long.

“Run, run, run! Get out of here!” the Padawan yelled. He hoped that the children would be able to escape in time, but he didn’t have a chance to check before three Killiks suddenly came at him with bladed staffs, two aiming for his chest and the other at his legs. Karking bugs!

He didn’t have much time to think of any creative insults before he attempted to dodge by jumping to his left. As he did, he would try to disarm any weapon that came near by slicing off the part where the blade connected to the staff. When he looked up, he realized that there was someone helping him too— from a Sith, no less (@Phoenix).

“I think so! Thanks for the assist!” he shouted back, gratitude welling up inside him. He would really have to think about the whole Jedi vs. Sith thing later, if he made it out.

If the defense worked, he would begin to retreat back towards the stairs where the majority of the group was, blocking and disarming where necessary, now keenly aware of the fact that sticking with allies or not could mean the difference between life or death.

Quin is defending by trying to disarm the Killiks who are aiming at him. If it works, he then starts to back up towards the stairs, trying to get closer to the others.

Edit: Didn't change anything in the post, but wanted to update the TL;DR to specify that Quin is near Group 1 and is going back towards the stairs

Crimson plasma carved through the air with elegant, clean strokes - effortlessly slicing through the Insectoids exoskeleton and bisecting him into three distinct pieces before ever having the opportunity to put up a defense. As it toppled to the side, Vahliri flicked her gaze towards the child who had been freed, yellow-tinted Ambers fixating onto the young Corellian. In that split-moment, there was a cold and dark part of the half-Annfyn had stirred - one that considered putting the child down rather than take the risk of sending a Joined into their midst. It was a voice that horrified Vahliri, and one that she promptly silenced entirely.

“Go, now! Get inside!” The half-Annyn barked at the child. The Force flowed through her fingertips as she jutted her wrist forward - sending a faint concussive wave of energy into the back of the child - pushing them along and in the direction of the Core plant. It wasn’t much, but it gave them precious meters of distance between the rest of the Swarm.

Her gaze promptly returned to the battle waging all around. The half-Annfyn was entirely consumed with her own theater, and she made no attempt to pinpoint Varyn or anyone else not in her immediate vicinity. Instead, her gaze fixated onto Laeonas - lingering on the Brentaalan for only a split-moment. “The one in the back!” She barked, clearly referring to the Tainted Kilik that lingered in the very back of the middle cluster. Vahliri, conversely, turned her attention to the one closest to her.

“Stop their East front!” Vahliri called out - her voice amplified and carried by the Force to be audible to both the Mandalorian in the air and the Marksmen lingering on the steps behind. Her amber gaze flicked up to Romeo, well aware of his explosive arsenal. “Light them up!”

Without another word, Vahliri began to dart swiftly to her own right - closing in on the right flank of the Tainted Kilik, while leaving the lesser ones to be picked off by ranged fighters. Just before the Insectoid monster came within her actual reach, Vahliri carved her crimson blade in a diagonal, upward arc from right to left - her thumb sliding across the dual-phase function of her saber at the exact same moment. The crimson blade abruptly sprang forth an additional meter beyond its normal reach - attempting to catch the Insectoid off guard and cleave through the exposed joint of one of its right legs.

Regardless of the result of her initial swing, Vahliri took the opportunity to allow the Force to flow directly into her lower legs - allowing the invisible field of energy to carry her upwards as she sprang up from the ground. Her aim was to scale onto the back of the creature - driving her shoto in a vertical stab downwards to anchor herself onto the creature’s back.

Vahliri pushes the maybe-Joined kid towards the Core and keeps moving. Barks some commands at the rest of the group before targeted Kilik. She attempts to slice through its right leg before scaling onto its carapace.

In the skies above Group #2

"Woohoo!" Bryce cheered excitedly as he blasted one of the tainted Kiliks, when a flash of movement caught his eye. It appeared that several of its smaller cousins(?) had decided to launch themselves off its hanging corpse and at his ship.

Well, they're definitely excited though Bryce, pushing the control stick forward as the smaller kiliks stretched out towards his ship. The starship instantly responded to his touch, moving forward quickly and towards the airborne insectoids, closing the distance significantly quicker than the bugs were probably expecting. Bryce waited for the satisfying sound of five high-speed impacts that would most certainly favor his ship, already planning his next starwash to remove any remnants of the kiliks. Like bugs against a windshield...

His ship's forward movement would bring him out and past the front lines of the approaching kilik horde, so he swung his ship around neatly and attempted the same maneuver on another tainted kilik from Group #2, only instead of lifting the TK into the air he would simply hold it in place on the ground before firing so as not to endanger his allies if he missed with his four light laser cannon shots.

Bryce hopes to hear 5x satisfying thwump sounds

With the Killik dead, Caerllion turned his attention to the other bugs. There were still many of these creatures and he couldn’t stop fighting them. He was certain that those that were coming to them were only the beginning and another wave would still come. At least that was what happened in movies about invasions of zombies and monsters.

He was prepared to face another Killik, when he heard a voice calling for him. The Annfyn turned and saw that it was a girl, probably the one that was being used as a hostage by the Insectoid that he killed. Caerllion wondered why she was curled this way, but soon noticed that her legs were hurt.

The Acolyte wanted to groan. The small thing would not be able to walk back alone to where the CorSec was. Looking at her, Caerllion wondered if she expected that he would carry her. He hated children, they reminded him so much of his spoiled and insufferable half-brother.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t leave the girl here alone. The other defenders were away from him and the entire battle was being recorded. It would be terrible for the Empire’s image if he left a kid to die.

You are safe now. I’ll carry you out of this battle.” he said, while carefully approaching the kid. She could still be a Joiner. “Before I do that, I’ll use the Force to immobilize you. It’s for you to not move too much while we run. This way your wounds will not get worse.” in reality it was for her not to attack him, but he wasn’t going to say that.

Before she could say anything, Caerllion would use Korriban magick to immobilize the girl. With her paralyzed and not offering any risk to him, he would grab her and run back to where the CorSec was. If this small rescue was successful, the Acolyte would drop the girl with one of the soldiers, release the Force from her and go back to fight the Killiks.

Caerllion decided to save the girl. Before carrying her back to where the CorSec was, the Annfyn used the Force to immobilize her, comforting the girl that it was to make her not move so much while they ran and this way avoiding her wounds of becoming worse. In reality it was only to stop the possibility of her attacking him.

Bast looked around. The front line seemed to be holding, but the Killiks were advancing and there had hardly been time to plan. The group to her far left had been hit hard. It appeared half of the Killiks flanking from the west had been killed, the others climbing over their bodies. The insects had no fear, no hesitation after seeing their comrades being cut down. Recklessness made them more unpredictable and dangerous.

A woman holding a burning red blade instructed the group near Bast to take the easternmost group, her voice carrying unnaturally far over the distance and clamor. The Ranger felt a brief flare of annoyance. She typically did not take orders, and especially not from Sith. Nevertheless, refusal for the sake of pride would be selfish and to be provoked over such a petty instance would be a sign of immaturity. Her badge had come with an obligation that put the needs of the people before her own. Her title as Captain had been earned by doing exactly that. Perhaps one day she and the Sith would be in opposition, but for the moment they were allies.

Flicking down the magnifier of her helmet, Bast set her sights on the target group, then fired two more shots, attempting to once more hit an un-shielded killik behind the first row. While she may not be taking down as many insects as the others, focused more on accuracy.

In response to her beckon, or more likely, blind panic, kids did come running. Some ran right past, while others cowered behind any sort of shelter. She could be a temporary bastion, but Bast hoped Logna would soon regroup the hostages and bring them to a secure location, ideally with medics and crisis counselors. Bast made sure her comm was on the local frequency before issuing a reminder. “Make sure that even if you are set to stun, avoid children or they may be trampled.”

Bast fires two more shots at an unshielded Killik in the green group, issues a warning to ensure no unconscious kids are trampled, and does her best to comfort any children near her.

"Get up to the defender's kid, quickly now." Wayson said to the kid with what little time he had before the next fight.

Wayson was happy to see the kid run off but the fighting was getting too close to the plant than he is comfortable with. When he turned back to the Killik were jumping onto him, two bringing their blades at him. Bringing both his blades up he figured the best defense was a good offense and countercharged the one Killik to the right. Uses his Shoto to knock back the other Killik's spear away while taking a hit from the shaft onto his head causing his head to throb but his lightsaber will hopefully find itself buried into the Killik's head.

If he didn’t have a helmet on protecting his head the damage would have been more severe but thanks to it, it only will leave a nasty bruise on the side of his head. Wayson knew his helmet was possibly damage but it should be able to take another hit if necessary.

If that was successful Wayson will turn around to face the other Killik and charge at it, using his shoto blade to parry any attack while his main lightsaber cut the bug in half with a horizontal slash from right to left. The wave of Killik's will overwhelmed the defenders quickly if they weren't halted.

If he hadn't been exhausted he doubt that he would have been hit. There were still too many kids still held by the Killik and there was not enough space between the Killiks and defenders. So they needed something to delay the Killiks. He replaced his Shoto blade with a Glop grenade. Arming it to off on impact and throwing it just in front of the Killik group on the right causes it to spray a purple gas which quickly turns into a foam catching any Killiks and kids in it and causing them to be stuck without harming them. It would spread up to 10 meters and only last for a few seconds which will hopefully allow the defenders to thin out the numbers before they break through the barrier.

Wayson will continue to hold hoping to delay the Killiks for as long as possible.

1. Wayson charges one of the Killiks while parrying the other's attack with his Shoto blade, taking a hit by the shaft of the Killik's spear on the head while lunging his main lightsaber into its face. Wayson take minor damage to his head thanks to his helmet that take some damage.
2. Wayson turns to face the second Killik keeping his shoto up to defend himself while attempting to cut that Killik in half with his main lightsaber.
3. Grabbing his Glop grenade and throwing it in front of the Killiks in group 3 to catch Killiks and the kids, it releases a gas which will turn into a solid foam barrier trapping some Killiks and kids without hurting them up to 10 meters, attempting to create a barrier to slow down the Killiks in group 3.
4. Wayson continues to stand his ground in front of group 2.

The young Chiss would raise an eyebrow after the Tainted Killik he was firing at went down and fell on a bunch of the smaller Killiks under it. "The bigger they are..." he muttered to himself. That worked even better than he expected. Several Killiks down and out, and a tainted Killik stunned for the rest of the fight. Davan would scan the battlefield, just as the Sith woman called out, he saw that the right side was left neglected. They could push through if they were left unopposed and Davan saw it.

After letting his heavy rifle rest for a few seconds, he would aim it towards the tainted one (in group three/rightmost group) that was specifically advancing towards them and stepping around the smaller Killiks on the ground. He would then squeeze off four stun blaster shots at it. Davan was expecting similar results as the last tainted killik he put down. The killiks are threatening to come in closer, if needed he would be ready to pull out his charric pistol from his holster to deal with the smaller ones should they get in too close. Although if the Mandalorian (@Faded) brought their famed heavy firepower to bear that should make things more manageable.

Down below Davan did see that the defenders interacting and/or taking in some of the hostages that would be released. Davan felt uneasy about it, the extremely high possibility that they could be Joiners. There appeared to be one child that was frozen in place after a Sith (@LouJoVi) presumably froze him with some strange red energy. Is that the 'Dark Side'?

Davan would see a ship hovering above and beset by Killiks. Hopefully the person inside that ship is a decent pilot.

Davan remains where he was, and fires at the specific tainted Killik in group three mentioned in the last DM post, readies himself to draw his pistol at a moments notice if need be, and making notes about his surrondings.

Having waited a bit to recharge and refocus, Drow opened his eyes and withdrew his E-11. With a range of 100 meters, he was still well within shooting distance and, with all that was going on below, it seemed like the perfect time to strike. He switched the weapon to stun mode, lest any hostages or allies should happen to wander in the path of his shots and opened fire. The E-11, for all its faults, had a decent ammunition capacity so he'd be going for 20 shots if he could before ducking for cover behind one of the support poles. That said, if some of the Killiks started shooting back, he'd take cover earlier.

TLDR: Drow shoots down at the Killiks in group one with stun blasts

Romeo smirked as his Disruptor rifle connected, disintegrating his targets down to ash though the tainted killik had managed to remain upright despite missing limbs and body parts. An impressive feat such that the Mandalorian himself gave it an appreciative nod in return. However, the gesture did not afford the monster any sense of leniency, as Romeo planned to finish it off mercilessly with another shot from his high powered rifle.

"For you Champion Kahtal? Always..." Romeo yelled towards Vahliri, a slight chuckle coming to his voice as he surprisingly somewhat enjoyed fighting on the same side as the highly decorated Sith warrior @Altaris . Turning the switch to engage, he aimed with the top barrel of his rifle and fired the concussion rocket at the ground near Group 3. The warhead exploded from the muzzle with a highly elaborate flash, plum and smoke trailing as it soared across the compound overhead of the other defenders to strike towards its designated target with deadly velocity. Romeo intended to disrupt and terrorize the well arranged formation of Group 3, hitting the creatures with the concussion rocket so to momentarily incapacitate them as his saber wielding allies would be upon them in melee range within mere seconds. He was careful however to make sure the rocket was aimed such that its epicenter did not capture any of the children in its blast radius, though he wouldn't care too much if there were a few casualties. After all, this was war.

Afterwards, Romeo continued to punish the Killiks with his Disruptor rifle fire, shooting a barrage of five additional shots to take down the beasts in group 3, who were hopefully incapacitated with the aftermath of his concussion projectile.

@lizziie

Romeo fires another disruptor shot at the previously injured tainted Killik. He then fires his concussion rocket missile in the middle of Group 3 to disrupt and incapacitate the creatures, followed by shooting 5 more shots from his Disruptor rifle at the regular Killiks bunched in the huddle. The concussion rocket specifics are linked to it in the paragraph, it was also mentioned in the OP of Romeo's entrance.

The killiks died, the child survived. The Brentaalan allowed himself a moment to yank the child up and shout, "HIDE WITH THE OTHERS!" Pointing inside the building to where the other rescued hostages were running. His attention was immediately pulled back to the battle as he directed his attention to a killik nearbye. It had been behind the initial line and had no child to shield it, and as such the Brentaalan didn't waste any time with acrobatics or elaborate dodges, running forward to close the distance.

The Brentaalan would do his best to bat away any of the insect's attacks, hoping to penetrate it's defenses before finally slicing across the Killik's head to end it. Should he have succeeded he would've wheeled on his feet and thrown himself at another one of the bugs, hoping to quickly dispatch it with a slash from behind. The force fed into his movements, dodging with improved reflexes, running faster and leaping further than any man should've been able to. When the one next to the second killik he'd attacked let out a screech, he threw himself backwards, slashing upwards and outwards with his sword, hoping to cut off one of it's limbs before he drove it into the bug's face.

Regardless of his success, Laeonas would hear the shout of the nearbye Sith (@Altaris), and glance to the back of the center to the one she was referring to. It was big-- really, really big. Looking around, he saw how thinned the other flank was-- how two of the massive beasts were already half dead, and how one had barely a dozen defenders left. They were far up the stairs, and he was in a great position to flank and butcher the bugs.

But the hail of blaster bolts descending on the group caused him to reconsider. They were going to be taken care of, and that would leave the left of the center as open as they had been. the big one in the back probably didn't expect to be attacked-- not immediately, at least.

He glanced back at the Sith, nodded, and than, bolted.

Laeonas ran with the force at his back, carrying him away from the horde in the center, and towards the ship. Why he was putting distance between himself and his apparent target was a question he'd leave in the heads of any who bothered paying attention to him.

@lizziie

Laeo attempts to kill one of the lesser killiks in a frontal assault, followed up by an attempt to kill another with an attack from behind, before dodging a third's attack, severing it's limbs and stabbing it in the head. After hearing Vahl's suggestion, he runs as quick as the force can carry him at an angle going back towards where the ship is rather than the tainted killik.

Catching the pistol, Logna quickly adjusted his grip and the weapon and shouted over the children "Come on, let's go, keep your heads down!" He tried to keep his voice as calm as he could reasonably manage, given the circumstances, and pointed with his left hand toward the route he wanted them to take. There was plenty of cover, at least for kids, if they kept their heads down and kept moving, Logna was hopeful they would be ok.

Grabbing the oldest of the group by the shoulder as she ran past, he looked her dead in the eyes "You stick together, no matter what happens, you keep running that way, don't look back." she nodded, and began to run, shouting at the other kids to do the same. Bringing up the rear, Logna turned back in the direction of the Killik attack, dropped into cover and aimed his blaster, so he could cover the escape route and direct any other freed hostages to safety.

** Ship stuff. **
[@SlagathorTheUnknown]

Unfortunately, neither @Bryce Callaway nor his ship were quick enough to react to the speed at which the bugs buzzed toward him. That wasn't to say the craft wasn't quick or maneuverable - the Killiks were just quicker. The height of the Firespray-31 meant there was less distance for them to cover, but did mean there was more hull for them to climb to get to his viewport.

They wouldn't inhibit his movement to get out in front of Group 2, though. Bryce's tractor beam would hold his target Tainted Killik - the foremost one - in place, but since it kept it on the ground it also affected those around the creature. Several Killiks around the Tainted one's feet would be held in place, as well as anyone entering the area.

Fortunately, his canon shots found their target and left a smoking hole through the creature's chitin.

Those fighting in Group 2 continued their assault. @Caerllion of Cyfnos chose to take a break from the fighting to bring an injured girl to the safety of the steps. She was left there, nearby to @Bast Emblai and @Logna, as well as the CorSec security forces focusing their fire on the advancing Group 3.

Past the steps, @Wayson Hanson took a hit but took two lives in return. The glop grenade he threw landed true, and a cloud of gas-to-turn-solid spread out in a ten-meter radius, eventually catching about 10 of the Killiks and their hostage children in its purple foam.

After @Vahliri Kahtal pushed the child away, instead of running into melee range and landing attacks on the Tainted Killik, she would instead find herself trapped by the tractor beam coming down from @Bryce Callaway's ship. Though she was unharmed by the lasers shot at the Tainted Killik she'd been about to attack, she was completely immobilized and would have to either wait for Bryce to move on or for a nearby Force user to pull her out.

@Laeonas Tannaras, too, would end up stuck in the ship's tractor beam as he grew closer to its position. This was not before he dispatched of three more bugs, but within the tractor beam, he would be frozen in place with several more nearby. They eyed him hungrily, ready to swing their saber staffs his way as soon as they could move.

Over in the leftmost Group 1, @Varyn Atrix cut down another Killik and hopped over to help @Quin Leonkri. Between the two of them, they were able to fend off and down the attacking Killiks. Quin backed up closer to the stairs, and although Varyn did not, both would be able to see that the Killiks in Group 3 were making aggressive headway toward the stairs. A glop grenade had stopped the front line for now, but it wouldn't be long before they crushed through it and reached the defending CorSec soldiers.

Over with the CorSec soldiers, @Bast Emblai's reminder caused several soldiers to pause and switch their weapons to stun. So far the soldiers had taken out about a dozen of the Killiks in Group 3, and Bast made that a baker's dozen.

Thankfully, @Logna was able to direct the kids away from the Sector Ranger captain and into the building where they would be shielded from the ongoing fight. As they stumbled up the steps, they would head his way, minus the one girl @Caerllion of Cyfnos had set on the stone. Her leg was broken, and Logna would have to pick her up and bring her along with the rest.

As for the child he singled out, she would give him a solemn, serious nod. "Let's get inside!" she shouted to the other children, waving and shouting at them to follow her inside the building.

Outside, @Grerse'dava'nlon's shots would stun another Tainted Killik, and it would collapse, stiff and stunned for the time being. @Romeo Solus's third disruptor shot at the Tainted Killik would cause it to stagger again, and the creature would let out an ear-piercing scream. It was still kicking though, despite its major wounds, and began to rampage forward, shoving through the ranks of Killiks as it rushed toward the steps. @Varyn Atrix would find himself in this path, in danger of being trampled under the creature's legs.

Romeo's other attacks would land a bit later in the midst of the group, just as they reached those stuck in the glop grenade. The concussion rocket missile sent about six Killiks stumbling to the ground as they were disorientated by the missile. He then proceeded to eviscerate 5 of those Killiks, those his bolts came dangerously close to the children stuck in the glop.

Meanwhile, all three Killiks in Group 1 were advancing forward. The one furthest in back had made its way up to the front of the pack and had begun to climb the steps toward the Core. The one previously stunned by the Chiss was slowly getting up, and of course, the third was rampaging forward on its last leg.

In fact, the defenders were all being forced closer and closer to the steps as the bugs continued their relentless assault. Bugs from Group 2 that weren't stuck in the tractor beam began to advance up the steps, and a couple of panicked CorSec soldiers turned their weapons to them, gunning them down with stun bolts despite the children in their arms.

Unfortunately, as the bugs advanced, the defenders were not their only targets. Rather than let the kids get away, several of the bugs lashed out at any kids they descended upon. The childrens' screams were short-lived, but were echoed by those who had escaped to witness the attacks. The bugs were growing vicious as their hive mind began to chant furiously, empowered, but not by fear. Something else.

** Construction watchtower. **
[@Fantasy Liver]

@Drow Venn 's 20 shots blasted out toward the Killiks in group one, some missing, some hitting. His bolts hit each of the remaining Killiks, but the rest of them were soaked up by the tanky Tainted Killiks struggling toward the steps. From his position he would be able to shoot at some of the bugs in Group 2, but those in Group 3 would be out of his range.

Things could have been going worse by Varyn's estimation, but that wasn't to say they were going great. As he surveyed the battlefield his alarm bells set off at the sight of group 3 making such an advance so he ran, starting to move in that direction to cut them off.

It was only then that he started to hear the sounds of children's screams being cut short and saw the unspeakable things being done. He knew it would haunt his nightmares for years to come. Perhaps their voices would join those of his friends who had died at Ajan Kloss and who periodically revisited him when his eyes were closed. He tried to shut it out of his mind for the sake of his own sanity. Maybe he could have turned off to try to help them, but then what? HOw many other kids would die? He couldn't be everywhere.

The next five seconds, he told himself, refocusing his mind. In battles he had five seconds at a time and what he needed to do in order to get through those five seconds. His movement to the side would put him out of the path of the charging Killik, moving all the way over and crossing by group 2 as well.

That was when his eyes locked in panic on Vahliri (@Altaris) just... floating in the air. He felt fear seize at his chest as he saw it. Perhaps there was something to be said for the fact that he stopped for her and no one else. Perhaps no one should read into that. Perhaps he felt responsibility for bringing her here. Perhaps it was something else very different. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. What was certain was that reached out to the Force, letting it flow through him, the drips of fear in his mind only making his pull that much more effective. He gripped her and did his best to remove her from the tractor beam, certain she could right and catch herself before hitting the ground too hard.

Are you okay!? he shouted. He wanted to ask her so many more questions than that, but that wasn't an option. They moved or they died.

We need to get over to the far side and stop the advance! he shouted, pointing off toward group 3 with his lightsaber and hoping she was still in good enough shape to fight. If she was, he would push on and all but slam into the side of the group, cutting down on the first bugs he could get his saber on, his movements quite similar to before, maneuvering to avoid being slashed, gashed, or impaled. As of yet, he was oblivious to the bugs that seemed to have gained additional purpose in their movements.

  • Varyn moves over to try to intercept group 3, cutting into the Killiks on the flank. He also pulls Vahliri down from the tractor beam. Probably too much internal thought.

Group 2, in the skies

Bryce knew that he'd miscalculated when the tractor beam when it accidentally locked allies in it, but he'd had to finish the job of killing the tainted killik quickly. "Sorry!" he called out over their shared comm channel, "Letting you go... now!" Instantly, they would feel the tractor beam release them. Hopefully knowing exactly when he was releasing them would give them a split-second advantage over the smaller kiliks caught in its beam; a slight advantage that might make the difference in this life-or-death situation. (@Altaris @Tom) "And steer clear of the middle group, incoming fire!" he warned everyone on the channel.

From his position in the sky, Vryce had a good overview of the battlefield, including the ongoing and relentless assault from the kiliks. The center group seemed to be the biggest, and Bryce ignored the clattering sound of insectoid legs trying to climb up his ship in order to focus on the battle below. The center group (Group 2) was both the largest and the most forward, and Bryce took aim at the final remaining TK in that group. Two down, one to go.

The process was very similar- tractor beam lock and blast- but having gotten used to that by now he felt comfortable doing more with the battle on the line; after firing four times with his light blaster cannons at the final TK, he took aim at the rear of Group 2 and began firing, slowly walking his fire towards the front of the kilik group but stopping his fire before allies or children were in the line of fire. Hopefully, enough time had passed with him shooting at the final TK that they'd had time to react on his warning. The goal was to decimate the rearmost approaching kiliks in group 2, leaving those on the ground to deal with the rescue of the human shields and the front of the Group 2 kilik formation.

Caerllion left the girl in the stone steps, not wanting to have anymore contact with the thing. Seeing that there were other two defenders (@Nor'baal @Kestrel) nearby, the Acolyte gestured to them. “This child is hurt in her legs and can’t walk. Take her inside carefully and immediately!” he ordered, before giving one last look at the kid from behind his helmet and moving to continue helping in the fight.

The Killiks continued coming, with no signal that they were going to stop. The Acolyte wondered if they had any chance to stop it. Perhaps they should start evacuating the planet rather than trying to protect something that was already lost.

His musings about Corellia’s impending doom were interrupted by what the Annfyn could only explain as a hilarious scene. The creepy loud mouthed guy and the other Sith (@Tom @Altaris) were being immobilized in the air by the tractor beam of one of the ships that were giving air support for the battle.

If there wasn’t an army of murderous bugs coming toward him right now, the Acolyte would have stopped to appreciate such a scene. He would have even taken some pictures. This moment needed to be preserved for posterity. Caerllion wondered if the News recorded it, because he could see it again later.

Unfortunately, the pilot in the ship seemed to have noticed what was happening and released them. Caerllion took it as his cue to join with another Sith and a Jedi (@Phoenix @Sicadorito) in their fight against the Killiks. Apparently, said Sith was helping the one that had been captured by the tractor beam.

Deciding to give them some time to recover, Caerllion moved toward the Killiks that were trying to approach the two Sith. The Acolyte would create a small flaming ball of Korriban magick on his left hand and throw it at the head of an insectoid that was close to them. If it collided, the creature would have its face set on fire.

Then, the Annfyn would use the distraction to approach the creature and move his lightsaber to cut off the Killik's torax from the rest of the body.

Caerllion asks Logna and Bast to take care of the child that he brought. Then, he joins the Group 1, attacking a Killik with a fireball at the head that can set its face on fire. If this distraction works, he is going to cut the creature's torax of the rest of its body.
