Open to All Jedi, think of it as Jedi 4th July.

The Founding, originally this tradition started as a little joke by the second generation of the New Jedi Order. Discovering the date that Rey Skywalker taught her first lesson on Ajan Kloss to the original students, they held a secret little party in the jungle to celebrate the birth of the Order. Over time the small gathering of Padawan's expanded, as they became Knights, their Padawan's joined in the festivities and so on and so on. At first the Council ignored the gathering but after about ten years they began to endorse it, as a way for even the youngest members of the Order to meet and form bonds with anyone from Padawan to Councillor. The Founding had been on hiatus the last few years due to the oncoming threat of the Sith, but after the loss at Ajan Kloss, some of the older members of the Order decided that the younglings, Padawans and new members of the Order needed something to be happy for, a day to get away from the stresses of the galaxy and relax.

The sun was slowly setting in the sky as the festivities truly began to kick off, before this it had been idle chit chat as the cooks, headed up by Jedi Knight Yvain slaved away at pits, barbeques, hot plates and salad tongs getting food ready for the entire order. The little green Jedi stood behind his personalised barbeque a white chiefs jacket over his dark brown undertunic, a pair of tongs in one hand and a spatula in the other. "Bantha burger or Nuna sausage young one." He asked the little youngling who stood to the side of his grill open bun in hand. "Bantha Burger!" she shouted in glee and the Jedi Knight delivered, with an expert flip, slightly assisted by The Force, he flipped a single Bantha burger from the grill expertly arcing into the little girls bun. "Go see Knight Palla for onions and sauce." He added before looking up. "Who's next?"

Megeshi realised she probably looked out of place at such an eventful and lively celebration; such an event had never really been her thing, and the lack of casual social interaction she had had throughout her teenage life had not lead to a chatty personality. She was stood at the outskirt of the 'designated festivity area', keeping to the sidelines and so far, avoiding most of the people present. It made her wonder why she had even decided to come here at all.

Sighing softly, Megeshi decided she wouldn't let the trip back to Yavin go to waste, and approached the grill. Quickly, she realised that she had met the Jedi stood before it, the small green one from Coruscant. Megeshi offered up her pleasantries.

"Knight Yvain, isn't it? Good to see you again," the Mirialan said casually. She held a glass of melonwater in her hand, a sickly sweet drink that reminded her of her home, though she noticed it felt difficult to swallow as she took a sip somewhat nervously.

"Is this party of your planning? You did a good job, I have to say," Megeshi said as she watched the younger Padawans giggling and messing around further over towards the tables at the corner. "I don't believe anyone ever told me the reason behind it though. Care to enlighten me?" Megeshi said, in a tone that she felt may have been interpreted as more passive-aggressive than she had intended.

Jaesa remembered the gatherings of her youth and was quite happy to see its return. Though the memories of the Founding on Ajan Kloss were bittersweet now that her home was gone, she did her best to push them away in favor of excitement for their return on Yavin IV. At least some things stayed the same, such as Yavin manning the grill. The little green alien was certainly a cook, and she had always been partial to his Bantha burgers.

The Dathomirian lounged about the area for a little with her plate and her burger, observing the younglings and making small talk while she ate. While some had been brought to Yavin IV very young as she had been brought to Ajan Kloss, several of them were brought here not much younger than they were now. Often times she sensed a sadness within them caused by their childhoods, but it warmed her hearts to see the joy of they felt just spending time with the other younglings and padawans. But she knew speculating too much would sadden her and cause her problems, so the Jedi Knight quickly finished her burger and searched for someone familiar to chat with. Her yellow eyes found her fellow knights Yvain and Megeshi, one of which she was familiar with.

"The burgers are tasting wonderful, Yvain," complimented Jaesa of her old friend as she approached the two Knights. She guided her plate into a crate where the rest of the dirty dishes were being placed with a gesture of her hand, then turned back to the two.

"It's good to see the Founding has returned. I missed it."

She paused to listen to Megeshi's question, though as it wasn't directed to her, she didn't answer it. Jaesa wasn't sure what her history with the order was. She might have spoken with Megeshi maybe once or twice, but it had never been a one-on-one conversation. In fact, they were essentially strangers. Jaesa simply knew her name and her face. She would wait until Yvain answered her question to introduce herself, however. She didn't wish to interrupt.

Having joined the Order at an older age, Drow didn't have fond childhood memories of the Founding. That being said, he did appreciate the camraderie and cheer that accompanied the event. He and several of the Gamorrean guards that served as the Yavin Temple Security Force carried baskets of fruit from their newly established orchard. If anyone was looking for a nice healthy snack, there was one to be found there. Some of the Security Guardsmen were also setting up several games for the Jedi to amuse themselves with including blast darts, drop the sack, and wrestling. As the wrestling booth was currently occupied by two very burly looking Gamorrean contestants, no one was stepping up yet. Getting on in years, Drow was happy to sit back and enjoy the site of others engaging with the festivities rather than participating himself.

Sace had been instructed to meet with other Jedi. He wanted to learn more and socialize with more of his stature. The Sluissi Padawan was brand new to Yavin IV and brand new to the Jedi Order, having met Yvain and Megeshi on Coruscant and being inducted into the Order shortly after. This would be the serpents first official appearance as a Jedi Padawan. He'd hoped to meet many more as forward and helpful as the previous two knights he had met.

And as it would appear, they would both be here at this celebration. "Hello..." The Sluissi nodded to both Yvain and Megeshi, both in conversation. The festivities were kicking off, and Sace would only assume that everyone else in attendance were Jedi, though he was curious as to how many were Padawans like himself.

Nodding to the music and expecting anything to happen. This was one party that Sace could see himself enjoying often. Snagging a fruit from a basket held by a Gammorean walking past, he took a bite and watched as two more seemed to enjoy wrestling each other. Sace slithered next to an older Ishi Tib who seemed to be enjoying the bout just as he.

"Ssseems like they are used to thiss sssort of thing..."

Yvain was happily flipping burgers and turning sausages as the young Jedi Knight Megeshi approached him, as usual the little green Jedi greeted her with a smile. "Good evening Megeshi, a pleasure as always. Burger?" He offered holding up one of his prized Bantha Burgers up to the young Mirilian. No matter her answer to the offer of his amazingly cooked food he continued. "No, I cannot take all of the credit, only that of our excellent spread. Master Monga has an excellent salad dressing recipe."

Spotting the Dathmorian walking towards the pair, he smiled and nodded at her. "If you require more information on The Founding I suggest you ask young Jaesa here. She was lucky enough to enjoy some of them as a Padawan before the return of the Sith." He replied a big smile on his face as he was able to introduce the two young women.

Music wafted through the air joined by the scintillating scents of barbeque. Laughter floated happily while Jedi mingled, the war forgotten for a moment. The Light hummed with joy. A return to a simpler time. Alex hung on the edges of the gathering. Her mind was carefully shielded from the gathered Jedi. They would sense only the tranquil pool of her mind, see only the calm mask of her face. Behind her mental walls her mood was sour. The joy she saw here was in such stark contrast to their reality. She found herself unable to set aside the thoughts that plagued her mind. This was who the Jedi were meant to be. Beings of the Light brining hope to all they touched. As her eyes scanned the party, she knew they were anything but…herself included.

Alex would not alter the vibes. The Order needed joy. They needed that chance to let off steam. She shook her head. They were so young. They asked Jedi little older than children to fight a war. It took a toll they failed to see until year later. The young Jedi deserved a chance to be just that…young. Her youth was long gone but she would not rob them of this celebration. Alex put a big smile on her face walking towards Yvain. She raised a single eyebrow at his cooking station. “Hilarious, Jedi Yvain.” Alex quickly took in the small group assembling around the diminutive Knight.

“Truly, so many of you have not seen a Founding?” She tried to remember the last one she had attended and found her memory shockingly blank. “The chef’s used to me much better trained.” She laughed slightly shooting Yvain a wry glance. After what they had witnessed on New Alderaan and Taris, they’d earned a few laughs. Alex might not feel the mirth they shared but she faked it well enough. That was all that mattered for now.

Surrounded by the aura of celebration and pleasantries, Megeshi was somewhat relieved to find that every one of the Jedi present had presented a laid-back attitude. Though outwardly she didn’t want to admit it, recently the uptight and ever-cautious nature she had upheld throughout the rest of the galaxy had become increasingly tiresome. This was Yavin after all, there would be no harm in letting up a bit.

Megeshi smiled at Yvain’s response, whilst nodding respectfully at the same time. Turning her attention to the Dathomirian, the young Jedi introduced herself cordially, holding out her hand as a sign of respect.

“I don’t think we’ve met, Jaesa. At least, not officially. Megeshi,” she retracted her hand a few moments later, trying to place the Dathomirian’s face in her mind. Perhaps from an expedition to Naboo? It was no matter anyways, and Megeshi’s eyes lit up as she quickly pulled the conversation back to the origins of the festival surrounding her. Grinning at the lighthearted joke from Master Voran, she turned and questioned the young Jedi in front of her. It may have been odd to the other Jedi that she had no idea about the Founding, but Megeshi had always found such activities trivial and ignoring the work that must be done. However, she was ever-learning, and considering the difficult times the Order had seen recently, she was beginning to understand the real need behind it.

“So then, please, enlighten me about this whole festival. I do think it’s the first time I’ve attended.”

"Nice to meet you Megeshi," responded the Dathomirian with a smile.

"It was always my favorite time of year when I was a youngling," Jaesa began with a nostalgic look. "It's the same date in which Rey Skywalker taught her first lessons, so the Founding is a celebration of the birth of the new Order." Though, if she were to be honest, she thought little of that and more of the festivities.

The Knight could recall the first Founding she had ever attended. She was very, very young—perhaps only six or seven years old. It was the first time in her life that she'd felt like she'd found a home. That home was gone now, but she hoped that perhaps the younglings and the padawans could feel as she did years ago.

"It's been a few years since we've had one, but we just take the time to spend time together. Eat, drink, chat… relax." In a time like this, where the anxiety around the reemergence of the Sith was affecting everyone, it was a much needed event.

Drast had come to the Order late into his teens, and as such had zero fond memories of some childhood here at the temple with the Foundings. He had come to the Order at a hard time in his life and had been so shrouded in hate and disdain that he could barely stomach being on Kloss. It didn't help that his lack of education oftentimes put him not only behind his peers but made it a source of ridicule for them against him. So the young man had spent little time on Kloss and most of it about with his former Master. And it was during one of their few returns to Ajan Kloss, after he had finally reconciled many feelings, that the attack had happened. So, all this Founding served as, was a reminder to those they lost in the attack, his former Master amongst them.

But, it was a party and Drast always found it hard to refuse to go to one. So, he decided to make an appearance. Clad in his usual not Jedi-like attire, the young man would make his way to the Grill Master, Yvain, or so he thought was the little Masters name. He couldn't remember them having actually ever meeting, but that wasn't gonna stop the young man from getting some grub.

He would offer the Master a friendly grin. "Can I get a Bantha burger with cheese?" he asked as he grabbed a bun and a plate, setting it up for the masterful flip. Part of Drast was curious if the older Jedi Knight had some good dad jokes to go along with it. In fact, he was going to make some suggestions too. He even laughed at Master Vorans 'roast' of the Master, which he offered her a respectful bow of the head.

Yvain gave the Jedi Master a wide mouthed gap, how rude, though he knew she was only teasing the Old Knight. "Yes they were trained, but none have ever had the gift such as I." He replied with a flourish of both his spatula and tongs finishing with a little bow to the assembled group. "Though I guess at your age the taste buds must be failing." Yvain counter barbed with a playful smile of his own.

As the young human Jedi approached Yvain got the feeling that he had good taste and he was answered with the request of a Bantha burger with cheese. He already had one the cheese perfectly melted on the top a few small bubbles appearing beneath the surface. "Coming right up young one." He shouted. "Hold the bun up nice and high." With that he flicked the burger up, a perfect arc over the head of the three female Jedi, a small piece of cheese slipping off onto Jaesa's shoulder. Before landing perfectly in the newcomers bun.

"Benefits of youth. What I wouldn't give for those days back. Can I ask your name friend?" Drow asked the snakelike Padawan who slithered up next to him. Drow was still pleased to see he hadn't met everyone yet in the Order, Master though he was. It meant their ranks were growing and the Ishi Tib personally felt that every Jedi had something to teach him, regardless of rank.

She laughed. A full hearty, from the belly laugh. “You wish you looked half as good when you were my age.” Alex’s smile grew ever broader. “You’ve always been all wrinkles and ears.” The spectacle of Yvain wheeling and dealing behind the grill was hilarious. She really could not think of any other words to describe the scene. The joy she faked earlier was quickly becoming the genuine emotion. “Young ones, Jedi Yvain and I are so old we can remember a time the Order had better taste.” Alex laughed again, a familiar presence sparkling in her senses. She gave Drow a small nod from afar. He was a comforting presence in her chaotic life.

“I won’t bore you with a lesson, but the Founding is an important part of our history. A celebration when the Order returned and become stronger by learning from the lessons of the past.” Her voice was soft for a moment. “Lessons the Founding is meant to remind us of.” Alex quickly gestured around the gathering. “To love, celebrate, and feel the compassion of others. To remind us we are a family.” Her eyes shot to Yvain again.

“Even if they can’t cook.” A full smile broke out again across her face. It was a party after all. No need to be too serious.

"Especially if they can't cook," came a response from further outside the temple.

From the shadows of one wall, one thin figure stepped out. It had been a very long time since she had worn the robes of a Jedi; the last time she had, it had been to a funeral. Even now, she felt like she had been donning a costume, yet she didn't tug on the robes. Golden eyes crinkled at seeing so many new and familiar faces blending together. Dressed in dark brown and cream robes with long lavender hair pulled back into a loose braid, the Pantoran's gaze looked over the others until she found the face she was looking for.

Her Padawan.

Giving a slight bow to Alex with a warm smile, she was mindful not to interrupt the rest of the bantering party. There was one person she wanted to see beyond anyone else.

Someone she'd failed before, but she would never fail again. The boy she saw so much of herself in.

Laying a hand on his shoulder, her voice was soft, mindful he still had food in his hands.

"Hey, kiddo."

"Benefits of youth. What I wouldn't give for those days back. Can I ask your name friend?"

"Namesss Sace...Vsil. I'm new here...you been with the Order long?" Sace was still getting the hang of the proper speech indicatives of being a Jedi...or knowledge of how the Jedi operate at all. The young Sluissi was ignorant in that sense, but he had respect for the fellow Jedi nonetheless.

Sace finished his fruit and tossed the remains in a bin. He then over heard an older woman explain just exactly what this event was. the Founding...Hmmm...well it seems like a fun time so far! He thought to himself. He respected the Jedi for things like this. Making them seem like family...or rather they were family now that the Padawan could think about it. It certainly helped to get them all closer together, and even meet new Jedi. Sace was just understanding now that while many viewed the Jedi Order as quite small...He was meeting new people at every turn.

At the request to hold the bun nice and high, Drast was almost in doubt. There was no way, he could flip it that high, he had to stand on a stool to even use the grill. But sure enough, Drast held that plate up high, watching that juicy patty flip cheese and all up and over the three women. His free hand would cover his mouth from laughter as the cheese dripped onto Knight Valerin.

Then three things happened: He felt the weight of the patty, and lowered the plate with an eager grin to see it steaming and sitting perfectly atop that bun of his.. And where a gentle voice would not alarm him, the sudden hand on his shoulder nearly made him launch the burger and the plate at Knight Valerin from behind. Thankfully, he still managed to hold onto both. The voice would register and despite his excitement, he would keep his manners above all. "Vor'e, Grill Master."

He then would set the plate down on the table beside him and turned to the voice. "Master Sati." he'd say with a reserved voice, as he bowed his head respectfully to her. It had been after their reunion, and she could tell that there was a storm of thoughts brewing in his mind. Despite all that, he was still happy to see her. Reaching for his plate once more, he'd offer it to her. "If you're hungry, Master."

Megeshi nodded at Jaesa’s response, and then turned to Master Voran and nodded yet again. The impressionable Jedi thought deeply for a few moments, reflecting on the old Order and trying to visualise it around her. Megeshi always found it important to try and empathise and understand the experiences of others; she was never one to dismiss such wisdom. In this case however, she had little reference to those long-gone times, putting aside the sparse chapters she had skimmed through during her infrequent visits to the Archive. Eventually, she snapped back to reality and smiled softly.

“I see. It seems like an interesting tradition. I’ll have to look deeper into it at a later time.”

Megeshi leaned further in towards the grill, nudging Yvain and speaking quietly in request of one of the burgers being flipped so elegantly.

Looked like Wurfuhlla was late to the bbq. It was by the orders of his new teacher Yvain that he was late though. The training in his lightsaber combat was important and could not be missed. Luckily he made it in time to enjoy some food and speak with Jedi who were far more experienced than he. It was going to be a great opportunity to introduce himself. He would kind of have to being that he was the tallest and most noticeable out of the ones present.

The Wookiee made his way to Yvain who was speaking with other Jedi. Some were unfamiliar, but others he had seen in meetings and such.

"I'm sorry I'm late Yvain, but I had the combat training going on. Oh! Hello, I am Wurfuhlla.. you are?"

He stuck out his arm to shake hands with the other Jedi in front of him. He unfortunately hadn't caught the conversation going on beforehand but he was here now and ready to meet those who could be potentially battle allies. This moment was time for first impression and he could not let himself come off foolish. The language barrier would be hard for some, but luckily Yvain knew Shyriiwook and could translate if need be. The force translation was exhausting to use all the time.

"...the Founding? The kark is that? Is that why you told me the Knights wanted more beer?"

The five younglings surrounding Arctus – clinging to him, more like – let out dramatic gasps and high-pitched giggling at the former smuggler's words. Twin Togruta younglings were clutching the Padawan's legs, thoroughly entertained as he tried to walk with two ankle biters attached to his legs. He couldn't find the heart to tell them off, however, instead laughing with them as they made walking hard for the former smuggler. One human boy sat on his shoulders, mindful of Arctus's hair, while a female Twi'lek child and a Nautolan boy were content to hang on the Padawan's arms. The six cut a hilarious image as they joined in on the party which seemed to be in full swing now.

"Yahaha! Arc said a bad word!" the twins chorused with mischievous giggles. "No burgers for Arc!"

Detaching themselves from the former smuggler, the twins made a beeline for Knight Yvain (@Braden Drake), shouting, "Don't give Arctus burgers, Master Yvain! He said a bad word!"

Much to the Padawan's amusement, the twins didn't even hold any ill will for telling him off. They were just teasing him, that much he knew. They were notorious for their playful mischief, rambunctious little boys as they were, and Arctus wouldn't even hold it against them. Instead he adjusted his hold on the two beer crates he was carrying in each hand, mindful of the kids hanging from his arms like Kowakian monkey-lizards. The human boy, Maikee, felt a little heavier than usual and one gentle nudge from the Force confirmed that the little guy had already fallen asleep.

"Nissa, Rhen, mind hopping off a bit? Kee's fallen asleep again," he requested, and the remaining younglings were quick to comply. Depositing the crates beside a table, Arctus's hands immediately found the kid's back to support the latter and preventing him from sliding off of the Padawan's shoulder. With careful movements, little Maikee was now held against Arctus's broad chest, the youngling's head resting on one shoulder.

Giving the Twi'lek and the Nautolan gentle head pats, the two took off after the twins to play. One hand finding the back of little Kee's head, Arctus surveyed the party, smiling at the familiar faces who decided to show up. Knight Yvain was busy in front of the grill, talking with a Jedi Master (@Valen Pelora) whose name Arctus couldn't remember and the Wookie Padawan Wurfuhlla (@Scoobert). Two Knights (@lizziie, @gensou) completed the group. A little ways to the side were Master Drow Venn (@Fantasy Liver , engaged with a conversation with Padawan Sace Vsil (@Just Matt Now). Other Knights, Padawans, and younglings were grouped together here and there, mingling and having fun. Arctus couldn't decide which group to approach and mingle with, a little conscious that he might say something stupid, so he decided to just sit on a nearby bench, mindful of the youngling sleeping in his arms.

He looked down at the kid with a gentle smile, one big hand carefully and softly patting Maikee's head. The youngling truly was deaf to the world when asleep, not even budging or showing a hint of discomfort at the noises around them. He didn't even seem to be bothered falling asleep around the former smuggler. The kid's presence – and the rest of the younglings – seemed to have quelled the voices that haunted him, shutting those dreadful words out. Arctus's desire to protect the children outweighed his doubts and fears, after all.

He wondered if he could even make a good dad. Unsure as he was, he was more comfortable being treated as an older sibling than a father figure, afraid that as much as he didn't want to end up turning like his abusive dad he might become one. There was a saying that the apple never fell too far from the tree, after all.

(But that never meant that Arctus didn't want to know what fatherhood was like.)

A familiar presence – two, to be precise – then made itself known through the Force. Arctus lifted his gaze and found Drastus (@Rhogar) approaching Knight Yvain. He smiled at the sight of his fellow Padawan, though a hint of doubt and apprehension flashed momentarily in his hazel grey eyes. The kid seemed to be intent on addressing Arctus simply as "old man", and as much as he wanted to know why Drastus didn't seem to like him, the former smuggler kept his mouth shut and remained as passive as he could. Drastus and Felix were Indy's students first anf foremost long before Arctus entered the picture. Maybe they were just being cautious around him...?

They have every right to do so, though. Arctus, after all, wasn't a good man. At least not yet.

But Maker, was he trying to be one. Perhaps he ought to try harder.

Arctus visibly perked up when Indy (@Killa Ree) decided to make her appearance. The corners of his lips tugged upwards in a fond smile, one hand raising to catch her attention. But when Drastus engaged her in a conversation, Arctus let his hand drop. His smile dimmed a little, gaze lowering. He wasn't Indy's only Padawan – that much was obvious but he found that he had to remind himself that over and over after that reunion with her and the two young men. The former smuggler had no intention of hogging the Pantoran Jedi Master's attention all to himself, but the voices were trying to convince him otherwise.

Arctus had been selfish for far too long and too often in the past. He didn't plan on being selfish again in the present and the future.

As if sensing his inner conflict, Maikee stirred and gazed up at Arctus, rubbing his eyes with a fist. The kid looked around as if in search of his fellow younglings.

"Nissa?" he asked sleepily.

Smiling down at the kid, Arctus patted Maikee's back then gestured somewhere to their right. "Playing with the others. Do you want to go to them?"

The youngling shook his head before making himself even more comfortable in the Padawan's arms. It only took the kid a few seconds and he was back to sleep, snoozing peacefully against Arctus. The former smuggler couldn't help but laugh at the kid's antic, mumbling a quiet apology when his stomach demanded food.

Rising from his seat, Arctus swallowed whatever apprehension he felt and made his way towards the group surrounding the grill. Trying to make himself a little inconspicuous, Arctus kept his distance from Drastus and Indy before shifting his focus on Knight Yvain. He nodded politely at the Morellian Jedi Master in greeting before requesting,

"Two burgers, please, Knight Yvain? Gonna keep the other one in case this ankle biter–" he gestured at the youngling sleeping in his arms "–decides to wake up and eat. Thank you."

Yvain gave the Jedi Master an evil look, the old hag had this coming, he just needed the patty just right then all hell was to break loose. Before the little green Jedi was able to act further Megashi chose to have the better sense of judgement and taste than the Jedi Master and request one of his excellent burgers. "Of course, Knight Megashi, one with as good as taste as you can have a burger." He replied out loud, his eyes never leaving Alexandria.

Even with the plan revolving around his head, Yvain still put on a show. This time he flipped the burger up, once, twice spinning the burger in the air before landing back on the spatula. With the third he made a quick twirl before launching the patty far into the air. Megashi had no bun so whilst the meat tumbled through the sky, he quickly snatched one from the side with the tongs, splitting it open and neatly catching the burger in the open bun. "Here you go my dear."

The patty was almost ready, Yvain nodded at the Wookiee as he approached. "It is no problem young Wurfuhlla please get some food, drink and enjoy your down time." He replied to the roaring Padawan, he was unsure if the others understood Shyrriwook so he responded as quickly as he could to the Padawan to avoid confusion.

Nearly, a new pair appeared just as the plan was about to flow into motion. He had met the older Padawan on a few occasions around the temple and he seemed a like a kind-hearted person, he had demons as did many who joined the New Order at a later stage in their life. So Yvain did not pry trying to concentrate on his current activities than those in the past. "I am sorry Arctus, but I can only supply one for the youngling. I have been told not to supply people who say bad words." He replied with a big smile.

Then he saw it, his chance, Alexandria was was distracted and the moment she opened her mouth to speak to the others he struck. The Force coiled inside him like a spring, he quickly flicked the burger up and flung it into the open Jedi's Mouth. "How's it taste Voran." He cackled.
