I think Finn will become the new Han, which is actually a good fit in my view. But then I want to see where Poe goes - he could become a badarse commander/general in the Resistance, and I want to see what they do with him there. Or maybe he has the Force (his parents had that tree, afterall), or maybe (rumors) he has relations with Rey later... But I want to see where he goes.

Since there are over 350 some comments on this thread and I am FAR too lazy to look through them all, does anyone else think Finn should have had the Force and not Rey?

I love that Rey's the Jedi and Finn's not. And I liked the way they set Finn up to wield the lightsaber as our new hero but instead measured Rey's potential with his failure ...well failure's a bit harsh but you get what I mean. Finn's got great potential as a character, and I think that's partially due to the fact that he doesn't have the Force. If I were writing Finn, I'd explore his desire to keep up with Rey both in a platonic and romantic sense and try to learn the Force but instead find himself in his lack of Force potential. 'Course that arc would be hard to cram into a movie lol...

I wouldn't discount Finn as not being force sensitive just yet.

Anyone else get the vibe that Poe's into Finn? That'd be rad, I'd be on board. I thought the new film was great. Rey was a terrific hero to go on this journey with, and Finn had quite the hero's journey as well. Only thoughts were that I wished Poe had been in more of the proceedings, but still I really liked the character.

I didn't get that fron Poe, but I wouldn't be opposed. I kinda saw them as two Star Wars nerds just reacting off each other. Their TIE scenes were priceless.

The reason people get that vibe from Poe is how he bites his lip when talking to Finn, and how he looks at Finn. Based on some other comments Oscar Isaac has made, it seems intentional. That would be awesome if they went down that road with Poe.

Lead character is a woman: "Pffft they're trying to be feminist left wing bullcrap"
Other lead character is a black man: "Pff we're racists and this supports anti-white propaganda"
Popular character in supporting role is openly gay: "#@%$&@ this shit"

I'm not so sure they're going to be that ballsy.

Already, no one in the new big three is a white dude. They've lost the MRA crowd and they don't really care about them.

Most people wouldn't be bothered by it.

Let's hope that's true and they write unburdened by outside pressure.

He's like a ginger Porkins! Someone who gets an odd amount of focus, but the lore provides answers.

I saw a few things on Facebook on some things...

Mostly on how both Vader without his helmet bears nearly the same scars in the same place as Snoke., which just seems to add more things on just who Snoke is, and if that is what he really looks like in person, like how The Wizard was in "The Wizard of Oz".

Also, this article kinda hit me in the feels.

Long story short, Chewbacca, more or less, shot his honorary nephew with lethal intentions.

I really hope the fact that Chewbacca shot Kylo is part of the basis for Chewbacca's story going forward. Not only will he feel the loss of Han's death, but I'd really like to see Chewie grapple with the fact that he tried to kill his best friend's son - only moments after Han died trying to save his son. That could be a really good story.

Just saw it tonight with my dad and sister in Melbourne.

Holy fuck.

I loved it to bits. Hands down my favourite Star Wars film. I was gripped from start to finish and I loved all the characters.

It's unusual that I enjoy "good" characters so much, but I think I liked Rey the best. I felt like most of the other characters were somehow related in terms of family bonds or story, which I'm a bit sick of. However I really liked how Finn and Rey were just two random wanderers swept up in something extraordinary. Rey has even given me a better idea of how I want to write one of my characters next timeline.

Obviously I loved Kylo aswell, being the sucker for villains that I am.

and oh my god, I ADORE The Scavenger/Rey's Theme on the soundtrack.

However, I did feel as though they were trying a bit too hard to directly mirror A New Hope, but that's a hardly a major complaint because I love A New Hope, but I actually enjoyed The Force Awakens more.

Just two quotes I particularly liked:

That wasn't romance. That was a strong platonic friendship between a man and a woman. I was really happy about that, because movies, especially sci-fi and action movies, rarely just let a man and woman be friends without any romance involved.
Agreed through and through. I was overjoyed to see that there was no romance, and that Rey's character developed independently from and devoid of the need of any romantic elements.

I absolutely loathed the idea that Sith were somehow above reproach by their non-Force using peers in the Legends canon.
Agreed aswell and I think this is why Kylo appealed to me. He wasn't an infallible, terrifying God, he was an inexperienced young adult who broke things when he got upset. However he still retained an enjoyable, gripping presence despite not being severely intimidating, unlike how I found the prequel-era villains. It's the way I sorely wish that more Sith were written like in Legends.

It's a good thing I don't have tear ducts... or feelings, for that matter.
