Pan's Training

[Ols]

"Exactly," she said, "the Force is like an advisor, but our choices make us the people we are. If the Force controlled us, surely ills would not exist? But they do. Some people feel the lure of Power, and the Force will give them the feeling of power, at the price of their goodness. Some people feel the lure of power and reject it, and the Force will give them the same power, but they are in control."

 

[Joker]

"But... Even if they are in control.... Could they still fall prey to the dark side?"

 

[Ols]

"If you are in control, you will not turn to the dark side unless you choose to," she continued, "if you do choose to turn to the dark side, nothing can stop you, but as a Jedi, if you are in control then you will avoid all temptations. The basis of a Jedi depends on control."

 

[Joker]

"Avoiding all temptations.... I envy the Jedi who has that sort of willpower." Pan sighed. "I worry about the dark side. I worry about blurring right and wrong. Are we not all good in out own points of view?"

 

[Ols]

"In a manner of speaking, yes," she said, "but everything depends on a point of view. And if you stick to a well rounded and generally intelligent point of view, you will avoid the dark side. Only the corrupted find the dark side the good point of view."

 

[Joker]

"I think I understand, Master." Pan said and stretched before settling back into a more comfortable position. "Have you ever regretted becoming a Jedi, master?"

 

[Ols]

She thought about the question, but she did not need to. "No," she said, simply, "never. What do you think being a Jedi will mean for you, say, after you have been made a Knight?"

 

[Joker]

"Everything. I'll get to do important work. Help people. And that will mean everything to me. All my training paying off."

 

[Ols]

"What do you hope to do?" she said. Merely helping people was a vague answer and she wanted him to give her something a little deeper.

 

[Joker]

"I don't know, Master. I would like to travel. See the galaxy." Unspoken was his desire to someday visit his homeworld. Just once. Just to see it. "Fight the good fight. I haven't really thought about it much."

 

[Ols]

She felt there was more to it than that, but she would not pry for now. She looked at him, "how do you think your training has progressed?"

 

[Joker]

"I feel as though I have done well." Pan replied. "Though I still have a ways to go."

 

[Ols]

"Is there anything in particular you would like to learn?" she asked.

 

[Joker]

"Ahhhhh... Off the top of my head? I'm not sure."

 

[Ols]

"Well then," she said, "that is your task for this evening. Go and rest, and tomorrow, when you return, I expect you to have researched a technique or skill you wish to learn."

 

[Joker]

"Very well, Master." Pan climbed to his feet slowly, sore from sitting so long, and bowed before departing. "Force be with you.... And good night."

 

[Ols]

"Good night," she said.

---The Next Day---

Corina sat in the gardens of Ossus, meditating, awaiting her padawan.

 

[Joker]

Pan spent several hours lost in research before finally heading off to bed and the next morning when he left for the gardens it was with an idea firmly in mind. He found his master meditating and sat down across from her. He allowed himself a moment to absorb the peacefulness of the morning before speaking, inhaling deeply.

"I know what I want to learn, Master."

 

[Ols]

He seemed confident, and that pleased her. She opened her eyes and looked at him, pensively, "and what is that, Pan?"

 

[Joker]

Pan grinned. "Healing, Master. I would like to learn about healing with the Force."
