Pan sat cross legged in the midst of the Jedi gardens, hands palm up on his knees and eyes closed. The Padawan was centering himself whilst he awaited the arrival of his new Master to begin his training. Every now and then his feline ears would flicker as he listened with inner and outer senses to the tranquility around him.

Corina arrived seeing her new apprentice meditating. She walked over to him, "Hello, I'm Corina Linar, your new master."

Pan jerked to attention when Corina spoke and leapt lightly to his feet. He bowed respectfully. "Good morning Master. I am very pleased to meet you and eager to begin." He rumbled in his deep growling voice and straightened.

"Then we shall," she said, "Tell me what you know of the Force. What techniques have you learned?"

She could feel his potential, but he was fairly untrained.

"The Force is everything living. It surrounds us, flows through us, connects everything." Pan tilted his head and twitched his ears in mild embarassment. "I have not learned much in the way of techniques, Master. I have only been tought the basics thus far."

"Well, let us see what you can do then," she said, and gestured to the pond, "pull one of the pebbles in there toward you, through the Force. Reach out, you can do it."

Pan nodded and turned towards the pond. He extended an arm towards it and closed his eyes. Reaching out with the Force he extended his awareness to the water and downward, searching for the right pebble. Finding one he felt confident he could lift he gave it a tug. The pebble came flying out of the water at an uncontrolled pace and smacked into him before falling to the ground. Pan bent to retrieve the small stone, bearing his teeth in a grin. "Ah, here Master."

She smiled, but was in enough control not to laugh. She raised her hand a little and it flew back, "Try again, and stay in control this time. Using the Force depends so much on control."

"I shall try Master." Pan resumed his focus and found the stone quicker this time, now that he knew what he was looking for. He worked slower and more cautious, gritting his sharp teeth in concentration. The stone lifted out of the water and wavered a little before floating over to him and landing in his outstretched palm. "Better, Master?" He asked, trying not to be too pleased with himself.

"Much," she said, and added seriously, "Never try though. Trying implies doubt, and when you doubt you won't succeed. Either do it or don't. Don't try. Now I would like you to push the pebble back into the pond."

Pan nodded, filing her words away in his brain for further consideration. Do or don't. Do or don't. "Yes Master."

He lifted the pebble with the Force and glided it back over to the pond. His third time manipulating it, it was a little easier. He lowered it back into the pond and settled it gently on the pond's floor. His first instinct would have been to just drop it but he figured it show more control to take his time.

"Good," she said, noting this, "Now I want you to use the Force to help you leap over that tree," she pointed at a fruit tree about fifteen feet high.

"That tree?" Pan considered it, golden eyes narrowing. Fifteen feet. He could make it quite high naturally, with the Force he didn't think it would be too hard. "Alright, Master."

Pan tensed and launched himself into a running start. He moved quickly and gathered the Force around him as he went. Reaching a good distance he sprang, using the gathered energy to fuel the jump. He almost didn't make it, diving through the upper most leaves. He landed on the other side in a tumble of leaves and fruit.

His form was scruffy, but he made it at least. He needed to work on a controlled landing.

"Do it again, and come back this way."

"Yes Master." Pan picked himself up and shook the leaves out of his fur. He squared his shoulders, bearing his teeth at the tree in a soft growl. He would do this. He took another running start, letting the Force flow through him. He carefully timed his leap, flipping in the air to avoid scuffing the branches this time. His landing was a little neater, rolling in to a crouch.

"Good," she said, impressed. Now for the next stage, "What do you know of lightsaber combat?"

Pan hesitated. "I know how to fight. I've been trained in Ataru but I've been told my form is sloppy and aggressive. I have been trying to perfect it."

"Perfection of lightsaber combat is something most masters don't acheive," she said, "why Ataru?"

"It plays to my strengths, Master. I am light on my feet and..." He lifted a hand, flexing his claws. "I possess the strength required to give the form its necessary, ah, punch."

"I must say, I've never seen one so big practice such a form. I would have said you would have been better suited to Djem So, a form that relies more on strength. What do you think of that?" she asked. He may have been light on his feet, but he would be better at Djem So than he ever would at Ataru, he was just too big to make some of the acrobatics fast enough and she added some advice, "If you train in Ataru, you will become proficient and deadly, but you will never master it. But you could truly master Djem So."
