Well, only the Avatar can truly take away a person's bending. But perhaps the Harmonic Convergence can change a person's bending. So long as he doesn't end up with both Fire and Air, I don't see an issue with it.
A bloodbender can also take a person's bending, although it can be fixed by an energybender. I'm also of the opinion that an energybender could take away bending as I believe that's the specific field used by the avatar to take away a person's bending.
I do agree however, that the important thing here is that the end product isn't bending two separate properties.

You could probably opt to remove the Avatar bits and what not. Once the roleplay gets a few threads under its belt we can try working out an avatar, as long as it happens in a realistic way, so that wouldn't rule out the possibility of her becoming the avatar later.

The way I plan on handling the Avatar thing would be by whoever wants their character to take on the role then a random selection assuming there's more than one.
I think it should stay randomly chosen for the avatar so when it IS discovered it's all new to all of us and can be a genuine reaction the the reveal. But that's my opinion of course

Considering the only beings we've seen bending energy are spirits, Lion Turtles, and the Avatar, I doubt we'll see many energybenders. Also, bloodbenders don't take away a person's bending, they block a person from using their bending, basically turning it off. It's still there, just unable to be accessed.

It's an interesting idea though, that when a person was blocked off from their bending, that the Harmonic Convergence would not only be able to restore the connection one has to their element, but to also change which element entirely. Perhaps the universe sought to bring balance not only to the world, but also to an individual(s).

I think it would be a humbling experience to say the least. Like a fire bender being switched over to air or something. Two opposites and having to go from offense to now a defense style.

I really like this idea, but at the same time I really don't want Jalas to be the Avatar. Imagine if Kuvira had been the Avatar, bad bad juju.

Kind of random but something I just realized, Avatar cycle goes Water > Earth > Fire > Air. So a prerequisite for becoming the Avatar at least in universe would be either being an earthbender or having a parent that could earthbend. With those parameters once the roleplay is underway I'll do a random selection via number generator, dice roll or whatever else.

That would be interesting, even though earth is the next in the cycle, if a child had parents that could bend different elements, then the Avatar could take after their non-earthbending parent. I think Jalas would consider it a high honor to teach the Avatar how to bend water, hell, it is a high honor.

Which rules out my air bender....

I picked a waterbender because the other elements are just pretenders.

I chose firebending based on culinary reasons xD wanted her to know how to cook and Fire Nation / Earth Kingdom foods had the most variety to them
