@Richie B. and @Narsi showed interest in an avatar the last airbender / Legend of Korra based rp so I thought I'd make this post. Rather than taking from the source material directly I thought it would be fun to use an alternative universe in order to give more freedom and liberties for stories and such.
In the alt universe major events would play out for the most part the same as in the original story, with the difference being that the bending subtypes were less rare than they are compared to in canon. Lightning, lava, metal, ice and blood bending were more widespread and utilized by the people to advance technology and civilization as a whole. Bending became commonplace and a way of life.
Korra technology left off resembling that of the early 1910's and 20's with radio, movies, etc. This rp would take place shortly following the end of Korra, a 25 to 30 year gap taking place for convenience. In this time society and technology has advanced further, now resembling that of about the 1940's or so in style while still keeping all of the cultural aspects of LoK and Avatar. No one's seen the avatar in 30 years, and assuming that she had gone for good or been killed in some fashion the White Lotus did the only logical thing and began looking for the next in line for the role.
The roleplay would take place during that time of searching, where the world is left without a bridge between it and the spirit world and people have to fend for themselves. All the avatar has done for the world isn't entirely seen as good, with some people blaming the Avatar for even starting the problems in the first place, which lead to the reformation of the Equalist Movement under a new name. Simply dubbed "The Alliance", anti-bending and anti-avatar citizens and people in general begin organizing and causing trouble across the world at large.
Terrorist attacks and other criminal activity linked to the Alliance spread like wildfire, only aided with the lack of an avatar to help the issue. Law enforcement and military can only do so much, the group hates someone that wrecked and fixed the world over and over many times over several lifetimes and just disappeared like it was nothing in the end. General concern and bias against benders and the avatar turned to extremism and radical ideas quickly.
The major setting of the rp would be Republic City, starting out as a Slice-of-life styled story that takes different directions based on player action and things like that. Character templates would be the same as on the site, opting out from the "species" bit and changing "force" to "bending" obviously when listing it. A character would be limited to bending one element and its given sub-styles as expected from a rp like this, though that's not to say that a character being the Avatar would be impossible to do. That would depend on story stuff, but if it flows well any one of the story characters could turn out to be the avatar without realizing it. All in good fun of course, and making a character expecting them to be the avatar wouldn't really fly cause well... it's boring.
