Yup.

Kaiju cinema is the bomb, I recommend getting stoned with friends/a lady/a lad and watching a couple of the greats. Mechagodzilla is a personal favourite.

****ing laser beam eyes maaaaan.

Biollante was one of the best, imo. Though I've personally had a soft spot for the dumbest kaijus out there; Gigan, Gyros, Guiron. I was practically raised on Godzilla and Gamera.

Though nothing beats King Ghidorah. He was the first monster I even saw.

Yeah.

I doubt this will result in a Kaju revival, but I'll settle for just a solid Godzilla movie.

If it's successful and people like it, at the very least it will lead to more Godzilla movies.

God? Are you there? It's me, Prospero. I know I don't believe in you, and even when my infant daughter had terrible colic I didn't exactly pray for you --because it seemed silly and because well something about hubris.

But I will totally be on-board if we get more Godzilla movies. I've forever loved anything with irradiated terrorsauruses (from the Showa to the Millenium series) and this trailer looks pretty good. And look! Bryan Cranston! He's warning us about the danger (and he's not the danger, for once.) So please. Let this movie be decent. And have giant monsters fighting each other for at least an hour.

Also can we get King Ghidorah next?

That'd be cool.

Thanks,

Prospero

P.S. Seriously the trailer does actually look pretty good. Same caveats apply about Hollywood adaptations and remakes, but it has me fairly optimistic, all things considered.

P.P.S. What would people like to see from future Godzilla movies, assuming this one isn't total dogshit?

Seriously, just the general prospect of more is fine. Though, if really possible...

MechaGodzilla.

I second this motion.

Most of all, I just really want to see how Godzilla moves, how he looks matters to an extent, but his movement should matter more. It needs to feel real, like it has some weight to it, like he is a force of nature.

Third. Motion carried.

And I agree completely about the movement, my least favorite thing about Godzilla's design in the 2000 movie was that it didnt feel like he was an unstoppable force of nature like the Godzilla of old. It was like watching the T-Rex chase the jeep but without the shaking water and gravity of the situation, if that makes sense at all.

I'm not sure if anyone else has said something about it, I'm a little too lazy to troll 90-something replies to find out.
My friend and I are actually about to create and upload a video to youtube, as we've got a lot of theories about the upcoming film based off of the trailer and general knowledge about the godzilla universe.

I'll touch base on three things right here though.

1)Rodan is going to be in it.
I'm about to leave for sushi and I' on borrowed time, but I'll point you to the instance wherein you are watching the japanese town be destroyed.
Where is the monster? My friend and I asked ourselves for five minutes while rewinding and replaying the video. We didn't understand until at the very same moment, we both suddenly became enlightened. As the town gets destroyed, origami cranes are looming in the camera.

That is to say that Rodan destroyed that town. If it were godzilla, or another monster, they'd still be there and in visibility. Rodan however, bucked and flew off, and that is why there is no monster, yet the Origami is hanging in the camera view.

2) Gigan.
Within the trailer, there is a large, hooked claw-like thing that slams the ground for a moment. We believe that that is the curved claw of Gigan. This alone isn't enough to prove our point, but we do have much more compelling evidence.
My girlfriend is now attempting to seize the computer from my grasps.

In the small clip at the end where the train rail is cut through by a spike. That cannot be godzillas. If the train rail is that high, godzilla would have to slouch due to his positioning If you look up a picture of Gigan, the curved spike on his head looks exactly like the one in the clip.

These are all theories and speulation. Must go. D;

FUKING FINISHED DOE!

Wait. Dammit. I didn't get to my third point D= ugh

Really? o.O

Not surprising, but still surprising at the same time. I could imagine it doesn't take a genius to figure it out, but how quickly it may have spread already is kind of scary.
Haha. The power of social media.

My money is that the other monsters are original, yet possibly have features or traits of past monsters.

It's a rights issue.

As far as I'm aware, Toho has only given up the rights to the Godzilla monster over to Legendary Pictures, not necessarily the other Kaiju they have in their film gallery, but if this film is successful, they could always throw Rodan at Legendary while begging them to make them some more money again.
