If anyone can find the trailer, awesome. It seems to be getting blocked all over the place. I was lucky to see it on facebook. All I can say is I love Godzilla, and I hope this does him some justice.

The trailer looked cool when I saw it, but I have to say, I wish studios would stop with the “mystery” trailers. In the Godzilla one, we see his destruction, which makes sense since it shows the scope of the film, but then they have Godzilla hidden behind a cloud of dirt or smoke or something, and you can only see his silhouette. Why? Why do we keep seeing trailers like this, as if we don’t know what they’re showing us? It doesn’t make us more interested in seeing the film.

They think that this mystery thing makes it so people become more curious and interested in seeing the film. I honestly agree with you though, I don't like the mystery trailers, and they annoy the crap out of me.

Actually it does, it's a tactic they've been using for years, it's a preverbal striptease so that we'll come begging for the rest. Do you not remember the marketing campaign for the original American adaptation?

Or you know, the marketing campaign of every supposed horror flick in the last decade?

Anyway, I liked the director's last film Monsters, so I'm genuinely interested in what kind of direction he takes with this project, and I'm surprised by he fact that I ended up actually liking the trailer quite a lot.

It's not so much the method that annoys me, but rather the reasoning behind why they do it. Like you said, they do it to try to create interest, but that ignores what the movie is. This is a Godzilla movie. Show us mothermucking Godzilla and we'll show up!

It can work for a movie you know nothing about, but everyone knows this is a Godzilla movie. Show us Godzilla and we'll be there. A trailer like this just needs to be cool and compelling, not mysterious.

I honestly think if they showed us at least a clear view of Godzilla, with his new appearance that seems based off his original design, it'd really boost the attention of viewers. It's Godzilla, not a new monster.

Yeah. When it comes to monster movies, it makes sense with something like Cloverfield. You want to just tease people and only spark their curiosity, and to get people to go to the theater to find out what the monster really is and what it is. But like you said, this is Godzilla. We know what that is. Why pretend we don't?

Also, don't agree with me. It makes me uncomfortable.

Then stop agreeing with me and you won't feel dirty.

I liked the trailer too. I particularly liked the use of Oppenheimer playing over the destruction. I'm just not a fan of the mystery motif in trailers like this.

I liked the marketing for the 1998 American film.

I think it adds a bit of flare, and if anything they're being a little cautious. Fans will still be curious about what the Godzilla here will look like rebooted, because already in the minor-fog-of-war you can see some definition to it.

I still like it! I want to go see it. I want to scream like a fan-girl when Godzilla does and make people give me space in the theater.

Hard for me to get excited. A lot of destruction (Oh mah gerd that's new!) and a dust cloud with a hidden 'zilla. Even then the mystery is not alive. Guess what? He's a giant dragon dinosaur. Not much they can do to change it look wise. So really all this trailer needed to be was "New Gozilla sometime within the next year or two. Cool? Cool."

Many people haven't seen Godzilla before, as insane as that might sound, so I feel as if the trailer was mainly marketed towards people who haven't seen the true Godzilla before, because this new iteration is very much based off of the original design.

In a movie where all the audience wants to see is Godzilla in all his size and glory destroying stuff, it makes sense to me that you would keep that as hidden as possible until they see the movie. The point of this trailer was to show you the scale of this new iteration, which in comparison to the last American adaptation is clearly massive. It's not like we didn't see anything but the monster, we were clearly shown his shape and the size of it, along with an idea of the destruction he's caused.

Personally, that's all I need from this kind of movie, and judging from the online response so far, that's all most people seem to need too.

You might not like it, but these types of marketing campaigns are very effective.

That is presuming I sleep. Also, I know full well and still it hasn't hampered my masturbation habits.
