In truth, she never jumped that far before, but it is better to learn in a real life situation than in a simulator. "There's only one way to find out."
"If you believe in yourself," Corina said, "you'll be fine. Drop and control your speed. Slow yourself when you get to the bottom. I'll see you down there," she winked and leapt off the edge. In truth she had gone first in case her padawan enountered any problems, she could guide her down easily.
The learner waited for five seconds to give space between herself and Corina, and leaped down after her. She closed her eyes as the wind rushed past her, entering a state of concentration that she rarely enters. Through the Force, it was as though Amaterasu already knew everything: the speed of her descent, how far she was from the ground, and the possible outcome of a landing.
Corina fell into the Force and as the ground rushed to meet her, she slowed herself, landing gracefully on the floor. Then she looked up at her apprentice, rushing downwards.
The space between body and ground is closing. Amaterasu felt this, and began using the Force to apply resistance between her and gravity. The resistance was like that of her Force telekinesis training: weak at first, but a gradual increase in strength. Except done at a more faster pace to compensate for the velocity of the padawan.
When Amaterasu's feet hit the ground, she fell into a roll. She landed a little harder than what she anticipated, but nothing was broken. Something might hurt in the morning after this.
Corina noted her padawan landed a little heavily, but it was good for a first attempt, "Well done," she said, "we must deposit the disk with a contact from one of the droid companies, a legitmate one, which actually designed it. He's in the upmarket cantina."
Tailing her master, Amaterasu looks around the streets, her eyes meeting some of the street-folk. Any one of these people could be in affiliation with the crime organization that holds the factory they were taken to: something that Amaterasu is not interested in meeting again.
They arrived at the cantina ans entered. She saw the man she was looking for straight away, a well to do human.
"Hello," she said, holding out the disk, "I believe this is yours."
"Yes, thank you so much," he said, "my scientists worked for years on this design," he reached out for the disc and she gave it to him.
"You're welcome," she said and turned to the exit. They had no reson to linger. She led her apprentice back to the ship and as she booted up the engines, she turned to her, "You know, you're very quiet. Is something bothering you?"
For the most part, what she said was true: it was relatively straightforward for the padawan. She was simply accessing the events of her first mission.
She thought about the question. Her first instinct was saying Well why is the sky blue and the grass green?, but she did not.
"You are here for a purpose, Amy," she said, "the will of the Force is something beyond and Jedi, no matter how old or wise. You are here because the Force has tasked you with something. Your task may be as small as saying one thing to someone that could determine the fate of the galaxy, or as big as determining the fate of the galaxy itself. Why do you ask? Do you not wish to be a Jedi?"
"I don't know. I guess I'm just philosophical that way," shrugged Amaterasu.
It was a topic in which she has constantly received similar answers from different masters. This answer was noticeably different. The replies she has received the previous times was simply "It is the Will of the Force. Something we cannot understand easily." However, it was as though Corina has a friend in the Force itself. And that comforted the padawan: the feeling that she is honored to be taught by such a Jedi.
Before the last word left her lips, Amaterasu has drifted off to sleep. The mission has had an exhausting impact on her, and sleep seemed to be a welcoming offer.
The ship dropped out of hyperspace and Corina nudged Amy awake. She was freezing again, she did not even have her cloak, so her arms were cold and she could not even feel her feet. She tried wiggling her toes to get some feeling back into them, but to no avail. She sighed as she brought the ship into the atmosphere of Ossus.
The climate-greeting given to Amaterasu is little better, even though she wore comfortable boots and managed to keep her robes throughout the mission. Curling up in her seat, the padawan waits as the ship enters and lands in the Ossus Temple hangar bay.
The ship slowed and landed gently, and Corina exited, stretching as she stood up. It was warm down on the planet and she was graetful for it. They walked into the academy and Corina turned to her, "We will have to report this to a council member. I would like you to give the report."
((PM a council member to come and listen to you. Any of them will do))
