It was reported that Darth Tempest was furious.
Despite proving unsuccessful, the assault on Mustafar had been entirely too close for comfort - striking at the Sith Order where they were supposed to be their strongest. It highlighted the glaring flaws within their own sense of security, and it hinted at the presence of a turncoat within their very midsts. While the identity of the perpetrators remained a mystery, the Dark Lord had almost immediately begun the work to strike back.
Experts within the Inquisitorius had been able to decipher the origins of the Starfighters that hailed fire onto Fortress Vader - using recent jump locations and coordinates from the Nav-Computers to pinpoint an origin. Two distinct locations appeared more than any other within the logs, and it was there that the Dark Lord would send the disciples of her Order. Channels were established and the call was issued, beckoning any available Sith beneath her banner to arrive at one location or the other.
Shattered and forgotten by the ages, Anoth was a place unforgiving like few in the Galaxy. For reasons unknown, a cataclysm that nearly tore the planet apart from the inside - leaving its remnants held together only by its own gravitational pull. Deep fissures spiderwebbed across the barren ‘surface’ of the planet, forming canyons that plunged down into the endless abyss. Free-floating islands of land dotted the skyline all around them, cluttered with the ancient ruins of structures from a civilization none of them would remember.
In truth, it was only the remnants of a thin atmosphere that left portions of the planet habitable for sentient life, and even that was a truthfully loose definition of the word. Regardless of its history, Anoth would prove be the destination for many within the Sith Order - and it wouldn’t take long for each of them to realize they weren’t alone on the shattered world.
Only a few meters from their landing zone, the darkened silhouette of a military base was clearly visible - carved one of the natural, stone spires that jutted up from the planetary surface. The occasional patrol of starfighters swept across the open sky, and forced the arriving members of the Sith Order to carefully hide their presence for the time being. While the identity of those occupying the fortifications remained a mystery, their connection to those who had assaulted Mustafar was becoming increasingly clear to those on Anoth.
Rather than a single individual, the expedition to Anoth was headed by a pair of high-profile Inquisitors - Ralak and Devos. The presence of the secretive Sith organization had been heavy across the response to Mustafar, and it was no mystery why the pair would have been assigned to lead the covert operation.
Each stood like a statue - armored visors fixed onto the group. It wasn’t until the bulk of them had gathered that Ralak gestured for their attention - her soft voice modulated by the helmet that she wore.
“Initial recon has revealed heavy military presence centralized on the fortress and encompassing the surrounding area - both in the form of group troops and aerial superiority. For this reason, it will be inadvisable to engage in a frontal, open assault against the enemy.”
It was then Devos’ turn to speak. “Our objective will be to infiltrate the fortress covertly. To learn whatever we can about their organization, and to inflict as much damage to their facility as possible.” Though it wasn’t visible behind the mask, the Inquisitor narrowed his eyes slightly. “Allow me to be clear that there will be no excraction or rescue, should things turn for the worst.” They would be entirely alone on Anoth. Without reinforcement or support.
“Whatever concerns you have, voice them now - as we have only a few minutes left before we need to move.” Starfighter patrols would likely sweep the area once again before long. It only left them with a short period of being able to move openly towards the facility.
