The new Guy; Shawn Mac'neal training [BHG]

The levers and switches Kal had activated not only released two vicious nexu, but also started up many battle droids hidden within the boxes that made up the large maze. They were motion sensetive, and would spring out only when something roughly human shaped moved past their hidding spots.

Ares's eyes were glued to his sniper rifles scope as he slowly scanned the maze, Shawn had ducked down right after entering the maze, making it nearly impossible to just simply pot shot the recruit the whole time. Ares had a way around such a dilemma. The maze had been set up so several key areas that Shawn needed to go had absolutely no cover, and no way to use the boxes to hide behind. He would use these straight away corridors to make his move.

Shawn herd the clunking noises of the droids activating but wasn't sure what they were and continued in cover slowly towards the flag till he came to the next connecting area that was devoid of cover for a few feet, he stood behind one of the boxes wondering what his next step should be since his ribs were acting up again which was slowing him down, and with Ares sniping for him. He also wondered why he hasn't ran into anything yet? It was unusually quite for all the noise he heard earlier.

Ares opened up with his sniper rifle on the clear stretch of ground, running the distance would be impossible even for the most gifted runners. Shawn would be forced to take the left or the right path, both concealing their own hidden dangers.

Shawn dove for cover on the left path.

 

[T.J]

Shawn would be faced with a several provocative posters hung in the middle and to the sides of the left path, very distracting and random. Ares stopped firing and reloaded his rifle, waiting for Shawn to get to an area that he could be shot in. Droids farther down the right path activated and started coming out of their hiding spots.

Shawn was faced with a dead end with some very provocative pictures all around, " what the hell is this, if I wasn't in such dyer straights I'd have to take one of these... Idiot back to the task at hand..., guess I’ll have to take the right path, but also better take some of the pain killers in the med kit first, and set a little surprise for Mister Ares to" Shawn said as he took to pain pills and primed a smoke grenade and tossed it into the open hall way, and waited for it to get a good enough coverage before moving onto the right path, with his pistols drawn just incase something nasty was around the corner.

 

[Niner]

The two nexu roamed the halls of the maze, sniffing the ground. Suddenly one of them picked up it's head and gave a loud howl and bolted off down a corridor, it's companion close behind. It kept running, the scent of the phermone urging it one. It leapt through a thin veil that kept it from it's quarry. The thin veil was actually one of the posters in the maze, one that happened to be the one Shawn had turned away from. The two nexu leapt out of the hole that had been covered and growled loudly at their foes back before one of the two leapt had Shawn, claws extended and mouth open.

Kal watched all this with disspasionate interest. If they had to they could stop the nexu using stun machines that were inside the nexu. But for now there was something else that needed to be done. Kal vaulted the wall, onto the top of the maze and sprinted for the flag, skirting the area Shawn was at.

As Shawn rounded the corner and entered he right path he saw droids coming out of there respected hiding places and before they could get a target lock Shawn opened fired on them with his pistols, when Shawn heard a growl behind him, he had enough time to turn around and see a nexus jumping at him, Shawn barley had enough time to roll out of the way of the nexuses attack and start running down the now smoke filling room shooting at the nexus as head towards the next fork in the maze, when several droids started to create a wall in front of Shawn he dove to get through before they closed up the hole in the middle, rolling back onto his feet and taking the right path.

Shawn's slugs impacted one of the droids dead-on. Several others were grazed by the bullets but not to severely damaged that they couldn’t function. The remaining droids quickly snapped to attention from the gun fire and turned to face Shawn as he ran. Shawn diving through the wall the droids started to form was a success, causing several to fall to the ground. The Nexu had the potential to be tripped up by the fallen droids, since they were driven by an uncontrollable blood lust.

 

[Niner]

The nexu that had jumped at Shawn hit the ground and skidded into a turn and gave a mighty howl. It took off down the smoke filled corridor with it's companion, chasing after the thing that they could smell. The droids were programmed not to shoot the nexu, and so the Nexus ran past them towards the corridor where Shawn had gone down.

Kal got to the flag room and dropped over the edge of the maze, he went to the flag hanging on the pole and replaced the red flag with gold lettering with a simple solid red flag, no lettering. He took the real flag and hid it under a barrel, with just the slightest bit of corner poking out. Then he took a running start and jumped at the wall, climbing his way back up to the top of the maze were he dashed backto where he came from.

"Come for an interview and a quick proficiency test," Shawn said as he hurried down the hall then Shawn heard another roar. "Dam Nexus really as if the Maalraas weren't bad enough, if I knew they were going to throw everything including the dam kitchen sink at me I would have brought a lot more equipment." Shawn said as he holstered the dual pistols and primed a HE grenade and cooking it for a second and throwing it at the nexus, and immediately dove into cover giveing him more space, and protection between him and the explosion of the grenade, and putting his hand on the sub slug thrower to aim it as quick as possible if the grenade didn't finish both of them off.

Both the Nexus bolted full speed towards Shawn, not caring about the shiny metal orb that landed between them. The nexu in the front jumped towards Shawn, who was now on the ground. Its claws fully extended and ready to rend the mans flesh. The second nexu on the other hand, was not as lucky as its brethren. It took all of the HE grenades destructive force, sending little pieces of it flying in all directions, and blowing a sizeable hole in the deck. The nexu caught in the blast absorbed most of the shrapnel, leaving the first one unscathed.

Meanwhile, more droids awoke from their hidding places all around were Shawn had fallen, large crates and boxes began to shake and open from their movements.

 

[Niner]

Kal winced when he heard the explosion and saw the smoke.
He sighed,
"Kriffin trainees, always busting up my ship. I'm going to start making them pay for the damage they cause."

The nexu that had escaped the HE grenades blast continued it's forward dive towards Shawn, actually propelled by the blast of the grenade behind it.

through his under armor, and from his ribs which were broken again and the light headedness from the wind knocked out of him drew his light slug thrower and fired consecutive three round burst at the nexu, before kneeling down onto one knee from the wounds and lack of breath. Shawn regained his composer as fast as he could diving into the next corridor but slowly felling the effects of blood loss and pain from his wounds, trying to stay conscious, while leaning on a wall at a dead end and aiming his gun down the only way the nexu could come.

Ares didn’t need the scope of his rifle to see that Shawn was in trouble. The dead end Shawn had entered was totally open for Ares to take as many shots as he wanted at the recruit. He quickly opened up his com-link that he and Kal shared. "Our mouse in the maze might kill Shawn. You want me to take it out before it does?" He said as he changed out the ammunition cartridges on his rifle so it had lethal rounds. Ares had a good idea what Kal would say, but he was going to be prepared no matter what lead bounty hunter said.

 

[Niner]

Kal pressed two fingers to his ear and spoke into the mic, "Don't kill the mouse unless absolutley nesasarry, and if it is, wait until the last second you feel comfortable that it won't kill him."

Shawn decided in the small time he had before the nexu could follow his scent to lay a trap with the little bit of strength he had left, he took off his coat and top shirt which were now covered with his blood, from moving so much. then patch himself up with the med pack he took with him applying the last of the bandages and bacta to his wounds and re-bounded his ribs that were re-broke when he was slashed and thrown by the nexu, and then put his shirt and coat open spot down the hall and placed the last HE grenade in the clothes and rigged the pin to be pulled when the nexu trips the medical thread. Shawn then moved as quickly back down the hall as he could, and went prone and aiming down the sites of his light slug thrower, listened for any growl incase it figured out a way to get behind him, and waited and hoped the nexu would take the trap and be lured by the smell of the blood and not the pheromone that Shawn figured was on him do to the sticky feel he had when he entered the maze and the mindless chase the nexu were doing, but started to feel drowsy do to the lack of blood in his system and only hoped he could stay conscious long enough to take the dam nexu down or see it get taken down by the trap either way he hoped he could live through this.

The nexu rounded the corner flanked by two droids. Both machine and beast did not seem to notice or care about each other. They're only concern was their target, a bleeding meat bag trapped in a dead end. The Droids brought their rifles to bear while the nexu leaped, determined to make a finishing strike. This was crunch time, do or die. Shawn needed to think of something quick to save his own hide.

Ares's trigger finger tensed in anticipation as he watched the scene unfold. He was ready to take all three of the hostiles out if things got to dicey, and knew his shots would be true. He had no idea were Kal was, being that the last time he saw him he was running along the top of the maze like a lamer in a rainforest.

Shawns trap sat on the ground, ready for a trip to spring it.

Shawn saw the three and decided that he couldn't wait for the nexu to trip the trap and opened fire at the grenade as they turned the corner, in the resulting explosion Shawn saw the nexu jump through the air at him Shawn thought to himself, 'what does it take to kill this blasted animal,' adjusting his prone stance so he is laying on his back and aimed at the nexu torso and let the bullets fly, and remembering the feeling of impending doom and why he keeps getting into these hopeless situations, but always knew that he could win but knew if he did in fact lose and die that life is cheap especially his own, and shawn yelled while fireing at the nexu "that I refuse to accept help from annyone until I beat this blasted animal!".

 

[T.J]

The exploding grenade destroyed the droids and showered the hallway with shrapnel. The nexu took two rounds, one in the back right leg, and one in the gut. It used the forward momentum from the blast to get itself on top the maze, which it used to get away for a short while to rest. Its attack was far from over though.

Ares sighed as he clicked his helmets com link over to the loud speakers inside the cargo bay. “You do realize that you’re supposed to be getting the flag still right? You shouldn't focus solely on diversions when you have a bigger prize to catch. Remember retreating is always an option, no hunt is worth dieing over." With that being said, Ares changed the bullet type for his rifle back to stun rounds and started shooting at Shawn again.

Droids all over the maze responded to both HE grenade blasts and came out of hiding. Standing completely still until the cause of the noise was spotted visually.
