Seeing the Force: The Training of Cade Varr

[Matt]

Dewbecca gave a single clap before returning to his normal pose, he was impressed with his padawan. He was moving along at a good pace.

"Very good, very good now tell me what other core force powers hou are aware off young padawan?"

 

[Ols]

"I'm aware of," he said, "and can use Force Push, Force Pull, Force Sight, Force Awareness and now Force Speed."

 

[Matt]

"Hmmmm I think we will finish force powers after another power has been learnt. This power is very good against other jedi or people with blaster technology, if you are without your lightsaber this can save your life.

Dewbecca stood with his arms behind his back, after saying this he braught them away from his back, crossing them infront of him

"Now, send towards me your strongest force push you can muster"

 

[Ols]

Cade wondered what his master had in store, but he trusted him and centered himself in the Force. He breathed deeply and raised his right hand. He concentrated on pushing Dewbecca as hard and fast as he could. He pushed his arm forward and felt a great deal of energy behind his push.

 

[Matt]

Dewbecca's hand stood where he was and his hands were forcefully placed in front of him, as the force push hit dewbecca it did nothing to him physically but a charge of energy seemed to be built up around Dewbecca's palms the only indication of this energy was a small sphere of blueish energy, he threw the ball of energy towards one of the boulders that shot back several feet, after this Dewbecca dusted himself off and straightened up smiling.

"Do you have any idea what power that was?"

 

[Ols]

Cade had read of some Jedi being able to absorb Force powers, it was a very useful technique to know, "Is it called Force Absorb?"

 

[Matt]

"Close but notice I was able to use it to my own means. It was the power force deflection, do you know anything off it?"

It was a fairly rare power but Dewbecca felt it was very important, few jedi thought the need to know it thinking the idea of them losing there lightsaber to be foolish at best, Dewbecca had seen enough of this galaxy to know that was foolish to think along those lines, arrogance led to complacency.

 

[Ols]

"Not really, master," said Cade, "no."

 

[Matt]

"I would say that this power may be far to advanced for you but I feel you should know off it and remember it. I would like to put you into a hypothetical situation where you are in the middle of a great battle, you are leading men into battle who look to you as there leader but suddenly a giant explosion goes off near you. The resulting explosion cause you to lose your lightsaber but surely you cannot leave the battle for your men look to you. There are blaster bolts going off everywhere.....Many jedi would simply and plainly die if that situation came up but this power allows you to block blasters, projectiles and force powers and if you are somewhat proficient in it...Send it back....surely this is a power worth learning...no?"

 

[Ols]

"Yes master," he said, "it is," but then, thinking on his feet, he added, "But then again, you could create an hypothetical context for most powers in the Force and argue for them to be learned, not that I do not see the merits of this power."

 

[Matt]

"True I could but I feel this power will help you stay alive if the situation arise were to arrive, and in the end.... I do not know every power in the force so I will only teach you the ones I know and I feel will put you in good stead. Trust my judgment for now but the time will come when you can learn many more for yourself....Now...This power is incredibly advanced but I will give you the basics, if you wish to carry on with it then fine but vice versa will not cause me any lost sleep at night"

He said this with a gentle smile beneath his hairy and wild features, he came across quite blunt to many most times but it was all in jest. It was merely his way off doing things.

'Now, I want you to think on this as we end for the day...Think on a wall, deep and impenetrable....think as yourself being that wall....Think of you and the force together being nothing more then a deep and impenetrable wall, think on this and tomorrow when we continue we can see how far you have come, but rest for now young one,

 

[Ols]

"Thank you master," said Cade and he hurried to his quarters. For the last few hours before he slept, he meditated, thinking of himself as a wall and letting the Force flow through him. He was tired though and soon lost himself to sleep.

The Next Morning

He awoke early and went to the Gardens before dawn. He sat in the half light and meditated more on "being a wall", completely encompassed by the Force.

 

[Matt]

"Good morning young padawan"

Dewbecca had been here several hours already meditating and practice sparing, Dewbecca was a firm believer in making yourself as good as you can be, he said good morning as his light saber was blocking the blows of a sparing droid, he seemed to do this with little effort against the droid whos attacks were little more then a blur but it came to an end quickly with Dewbecca burning it on the chest.

"Even though I am a Jedi Master I still train every chance I get, making oneself better no matter what there position is very important....Now how was your meditation?"

 

[Ols]

Cade thought about it, "It was...interesting, master. I concentrated on being a solid wall, and I think I've got the hang of it, but I have yet to practice actually blocking a power or blast."

 

[Matt]

"Yes, I very much doubt you will be able to but we will try nonetheless, this is a power that masters have trouble with. I will try it in a low risk situation with this"

He ruffled in hi belt until he pulled out a small dart, twirling it though his fingers smiling.

"This will be directed at you and you will try to block it using the power, now I doubt you will be able to do it but if you get a general idea of it and remember it....Well that will be as good as"

Dewbecca controlled the dart with the force for a few moments before it shot towards Cade at a reasonable pace, it would do no real damage to him though

 

[Ols]

Cade saw the dart coming and fell into the Force. He believe he was a wall and the dart would just bounce off. He calmly raised his arm and held his hand up. I am a shield. He felt the dart in the Force and just concentrated on stopping it hitting him. As it got closer he felt a flutter of nerves but he tried not to break his concentration. As the dart was so close now he noted that it slowed a little, but it stuck in the palm of his hand, not as deeply as it would have, but it still dug in and it stung a little. He pulled it out and guided it back to his master.

 

[Matt]

"Now I was expecting that but for a brief moment it was working...think on that moment and that is the state of mind you need to be in if you wish to learn this power"

Dewbecca sat down on the beautiful green pastures of the training centre breathing deeply in and out, he loved how cool and fresh the air was and in a strange ay it reminded him of Kashyyyk

"Now, sit down young padawan as we have much to talk about"

 

[Ols]

Cade brushed the slight stinging sensation to the back of his mind and walked over the his master, taking a seat on the ground next to him. He like the outdoors, especially the gardens of Ossus, they were so peaceful.

"Yes master?"

 

[Matt]

The sun beated down onto his furry main as he looked up, squinting into the sunshine that was bathing the Ossus temple today, this truely was a wonderful place for the Jedi to be, the feeling of the force all around them was so very strong here and he wondered how his padawan felt on it.

"Now I have taught you many physical things but that is but a small part to becoming a jedi knight. What is your view on what a Jedi Knight is?"

 

[Ols]

"They are guardians of peace and justice," he said, a smirk crawling across his face. He continued, "That's the official line anyway. To me they're more than just that. They're good people, people who can do something to make the galaxy a better place. They should wander the galaxy, helping all they can, studying the Force and training others. That is the true role of the Jedi."
