We can discuss that after this thread but I'm glad you agree gloaming and Zach that's where I actually got the mindset of winning a fight doesn't mean you've killed that person.

How many times did one retreat when he/she noticed victory is unattainable.

I didn't agree with you. I agreed with Sreeya and Xeno. The ONLY purpose of having lightsaber forms listed in a profile is to counter someone calling BS on you pulling some Force acrobatic movements with Ataru, or being able to defend every attack with Makashi or Soresu.

To me, lightsaber forms don't affect the way you write, it only affects whether your character is capable of actually doing it. With the proper lightsaber techniques that focus on just that, it pretty much serves as a defense against anyone who decides to bitch.

EDIT:
I don't exactly agree that the Forms are as intricate as the RL styles you mentioned but I can see how you could come to that comparison.

Completely incorrect. Have you read the page on wookiee about lightsaber combat? It's extensive and detailed. Many diagrams and demonstrated examples and such.

Well whether you agree or not. For whatever reason people want it. I think it should be allowed that everyone can learn all the forms when they reach Master.

No, only some. Besides, the admins serve as the mediators and controlling factor in SWRP. Admins are the final word, and while you can suggest they change something, it is still ultimately their decision on whether this is changed or not.

It's not playing favorites, it's based on reasoning and character trait development through RP. If home slice the jedi gets to master, and has never RP'd working on learning a new lightsaber form, he's not going to suddenly be allowed to know six forms of lightsaber combat.

Well I really didn't say that did I? Obviously if a character isn't going down that path he can't suddenly change direction to do that.

Kalen, I would like to civily point out that you're coming off as very obnoxious.

Aside from that, I believe the point is that only Master-level Jedi/Sith should be able to train all forms, not just instantly learn it. However, this is still something that I advise against, and stick with the limit of five forms for a Master. Perhaps the special positions of Council Members or Sith Lord could be allowed to ICly train each of the forms, and that would be a requirement to reach the title of Battlemaster/Blademaster.

Because you guys are deciding what I think or just repeating what I said in a different way but have the audacity to tell me I'm wrong. That's not cool. I never said anyone should instantly learn anything etc.

Before you call people things look at the situation. You need to work on your comprehension skills, son. Or die trying lol fiddy

Enough. Let's end this. Both sides hold blames. All of you stop acting like children who have to have the last word in. Be the bigger person and stop.

I agree with you, Weiss. Tell them. We should stay on topic.

First off. Stop high jacking my thread. At least you all have stopped but try to avoid it in the future. High jacking threads isn't nice.

Secondly. Yes it is ultimately the admins decision but they haven't said anything. Brandon said they could revise the limit but some sort of restriction needs to be in place. Lavish said he figured the limit was only referring to ones you can master, which is more of an opinion (since it states differently on the character sheet) but I would like that assumption very much so. (If the limit can not be revised or removed in some way I would like that at least to be true. It would help tremendously with the flavor of lightsaber focused characters.) While Sreeya said she doesn't even see the reason why they are there in the first place and didn't really contribute to the overall discussion at hand. So ya I've had very mixed answers from the admins who actually posted.

In addition I still have yet to see a single good reason other then Mars saying how he saw them like the RL styles he mentioned. I've already said I disagree and yes Zach I have seen the information. I'm putting my take on the Forms into a spoiler because I'm sure most people don't care and I don't want to detract from the point. From what I've read most peoples reasons are they don't want characters to run around saying they know all the Forms. But why? If it doesn't matter in an RP fight then who cares? If you don't have a valid reason for not wanting them then why support the limit in the first place?

But still it doesn't really matter much now. Everyone has said their piece and I would just like an administrator to give a straight forward answer about the Forms limit.

They don't seem to be anything more complicated then each Form having 5 or more kata. They aren't totally different fighting styles like, for example, Jui Jitsu and Muay Thai. They all use the lightsaber, they were all developed by the same group of people and they all use the Force during use. All of the Forms are extremely familiar when compared to one another but each one is used for different things in combat. Exactly like the Kata (which loosely means Forms in Japanese) I'm learning and I already know 4 kata for sure and I'm currently learning 3 more that I haven't really gotten down.

Now I've only been in karate for 2 years and I've already learned a bunch of different ways to attack that are each totally different from one another. Just like the Forms. My Sensei always tells me that you only need to know one or two kata in order to fight. It's not recommended but if you are good enough with only those one or two Kata you will be able to beat most people. Much like the Jedi sometimes only have one Form that they use to fight. It's just personal preference. I would argue that the Jedi know all the forms but just keep with the one that is best suited to them and those are the ones they go on to master.

Just to be clear, the reason you've gotten mixed responses from admins is because there's been no formal admin discussion about this yet. This thread is still playing out, so once it's done we'll actually discuss it.

Right now, if an admin posts here, they're just giving their opinion unless it's noted as being an actual decision.

Rameth, I feel like you've confused what I said, or much more likely, I phrased it incorrectly.

What I see is this; Lightsaber forms DO and DON'T matter. They don't matter because it's a free-form RP style. They DO matter for people who try to do something specifically that the form is about. That matter is whether the character is allowed to be as experienced as a Sith Lord or Council Member as a Padawan, by doing crazy precise stuff without fail as if that rank. I see it as RPing out learning it and progressing it as you train and get better, then that when you can have it listed in your profile that you've worked for it and can do it. The only purpose to actually having it in the profile is to show that you're not BSing stuff about flips and spins and shit with the Force as a Padawan having mastered everything.

I did not intend to let this get off track, so my apologies.

No worries Zach, I wasn't referring to you when I said that.

The thing is I agree completely about them not actually mattering. I said before that you only "need" one Form to show that your character can fight with a lightsaber. I also agree about the experience thing, such as a Padawan knowing them all vs a Master knowing them all. I'm fine with them being restricted to your rank. I completely disagree that being on the council should count for anything though, as I've already said.

My main reason for bringing this up is for IC flavor, which no one can say doesn't matter. I would like to be able to learn the seven forms for the same reason some people want to put Bryar pistol on their profiles. Why not they just put blaster pistol? Cause of flavor. In the end it doesn't matter what shiny weapon/form you have it's just to make your character more appealing to yourself. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that.

Ah, ok then :)

I agree about flavor. In fact, that's why I started the Designated Training Threads, which I've continued posting in for other people that join. As Force Power lists don't really matter either (in the same aspect we're considering lightsaber forms), I continue them now as a way to familiarize other people with using the powers more descriptively and getting new ideas how to incorporate them snazzily :D

I use Force Power lists as a formality as well and less as a limit. If I was to give you just a list of 15 - 20 powers and say that's all I can do, it would suck. There is a few things that matter when it comes to lightsaber form however. Specifically the weaknesses of the forms and certain unique aspects. Like Makashi and Ataru have a strong weakness to the use of blaster fire(The reason Shaak-Ti is never seen fighting a storm trooper), those weaknesses unless specifically stated to overcome can't just be overcome with little to no explanation. It is really just nice to tell people about what they are probably going to contend with because if I got rid of my Force power, skill, and lightsaber form list before fighting someone, they would be angry. People really just don't like vagueness because it can be exploited.
