Jedi spa day thread, open to jedi

Normally a Jedi Temple was a calm and relaxing enough place. But it didn't make it a good vacation spot for people. The planet of Dorumaa was mostly covered in water. But there were rare mountainous islands on the surface that allowed resorts and businesses to exist.

Byron entered the Verdant Lotus day spa from double sliding green doors parting smoothly to either side and disappearing into walls. The lobby had the soft smell of flowers waft out from the the air and made its way to the Knights nostrils. A well dressed hostess in the form of an female devaroian at a desk. A door behind and a door on either side lead to different parts of the spa and Byron stood looked in each long enough to attract the attention of a staff member.

"Are you here as part of the Ryker reservation?" The voice of the female devaronian came across coolly like a glass of cucumber water. Byron smiled warmly in return and gave a nod. Her name tag said 'Samarha'. Her intuition was pretty spot on though.

"Yeah. That's me. Anybody else arrive early?" He asked. The retreat to the Verdant Lotus was meant for things to be a proper vacation sort of environment. "There may be some already inside Master Jedi. Feel free to enter. There are robes and lockers in the changing rooms behind me as well." She added a bit formally for Byron's tastes.

This was the first day of the arranged stay at the spa. There were overnight lodging with rooms. The man could already smell which direction the food was coming from. "Thanks Samarha. I'll find them. Food's this way?" He pointed to the door on the right and was already walking towards it by the time she gave him a nod of head. "Thanks."

On the other side of the threshold there were numerous luxurious lounge chairs with a few coffee tables and ottomans for comfort. A bar with a wide range of beverages behind it was attended by a well custom crisp-o droid incased in what looked like a thin mahogany chasis. Having set up this Jedi retreat himself, Byron knew what he could go for first but wanted to loosen up with a drink first. Ordering a rummy tonic, he took the glass and began to walk towards the back of the building. Private massage rooms, a bath house that was filled by a natural hot spring, pedicures and manicures, hair cuts and shaves this place had it all. The muscular Jedi planned to try each of them out in turn over the next few days. Twi'leks, humans and even a few gungans were staff members by the looks of things.

For now, he stayed in the lounge wondering if others had found the place so far. It had been a long time since he had relaxed and set his Jedi business aside. Furthermore, Byron had not been in touch with Jedi compatriots a lot lately and maybe that could be rectified with some time spent easing their stresses here. This was the closest thing to a company retreat as a Jedi got. Byron sipped the rummy tonic until some beads were added to his mustache though he wiped them away a moment later with a sleeve.

All things considered, Vayla had no idea what she was doing here.

“I have no idea what I’m doing here,” she promptly advised the receptionist, blinking away her own lack of a formal greeting.

“Are you here as part of the Ryker reservation?” the receptionist blinked back.

“I…” Vayla hesitated, swiping across her datapad with a nod. “Yes. Ryker. Byron Ryker. That’s the one.”

“Then you are right on time!” The receptionist smiled. “Mr. Ryker arrived some moments ago. You’ll find him in the main area with other guests just through that door.”

“Thank you.” With that, Vayla slipped her pad back into her blue leather jacket and waltzed onward, feet propelled by purpose but perhaps not so much her thoughts. What am I doing here again?

The doorway parted, the Pantoran stepped in, and all at once was bombarded by the luxuries of the lavish lounge and those who hosted it for their guests.

It seemed that as soon as she stepped forward a towel was being thrust into her face along with a water and a smile and a nod.

“I am quite okay, thank you, sir,” Vayla politely dismissed with a smile. Just as quickly, she turned back toward the steward’s back. “Actually, sorry, where can I get a cup of tea?”

The direction came, the Jedi Knight followed while her eyes followed another direction before landing on a familiar face. “Knight Ryker?”

Familiar enough, though the two had not exactly gotten to know each other since joining forces back in the Battle of Byblos. I guess that’s the whole point of this little rally, eh?

“Vayla Mirana.” She gave a simple bow. “This place is…” Amused yet alert eyes float over the towels and plants, rooms for massaging and bathing, a Twi’lek in a crop top and a shirtless Gungan. “...Charming.”

Byron looked at his who spoke name and title. Seeing the familiar face of his cohort the man smiled and stood up from his seat. Byron knew of her but had never been introduced. The Pantoran did so and he replied in kind. "Please, call me Byron." Especially given the circumstances the whole point is to relax. He saw no point in worrying about calling him by the right name except his first. "You can call me dude if that doesn't make you comfortable." He cracked a smile and took a sip of his drink before

"I've never been here before today if I'm bein' honest." Byron had checked it all out over the holonet before hand and made arrangements offworld. This was going to be an interesting first experience for him. At the same time, despite what he said, he felt like he couldn't entirely relax if he had to worry about a group of other Jedi.

So far it was only Vayla who had arrived. "Any of the services catch your eye? Was thinking of getting my eyebrows done." SA callused finger ran across one brow and touched it gently before dropping to grab his drink again. Suddenly the man's beverage was empty and he hadn't the faintest idea why. Setting the glass down on the counter the muscular jedi tapped his fingers on the counter as he added 'get a new drink' to his own choices while he listened to Vayla.

Vayla nodded at her counterpart’s correction, such as she was used to taking it. Customs were a curious thing amid galactic culture and hers was to address those with title by title, or otherwise forename and surname all at once; but the present environment and its current circumstances certainly warranted some less formality.

“Comfort, I glean, is indeed the mission objective here...dude,” she echoed the mirth at a corner of her lips. There might yet be time and room for laughter as these ‘festivities’ took hold but Vayla was content with keeping cool for now.

As Byron spoke on, his guest eased into an adjacent seat, setting her cup of tea in her lap and allowing the steam to drift up her nostrils. It may as well have been the sweetest-smelling incense this side of the galaxy. Never been here before, eh? Question is where can I get this tea!?

At the mention of services, Vayla pursed her lips in as much thought as to wrap them over the lip of her cup, drinking in the tea and the scenery. The former was ever so soothing, all at once jasmine and lemon, smoked wood and honey; a perfect combination, much like this spa-house-resort-place was promised to be.

“Well…” She hesitated, shifting gaze between this room and that house. “If I too am being honest then this is not entirely my kind of establishment...but I do love hot springs. Might pair with my drink more than anything else.”

Taking another sip, Vayla looked between Byron’s own brew and his brows. It was no strange thing to relish in the comforts of alcohol at a time and place like this but she doubted his need for a browcut. His eyebrows are almost like...wings.

“What made you pick here over, well, anywhere else?”

Byron gave a chuckle at the exaggerated casualness with which the Pantoran spoke. He couldn't help but feel a bit more relaxed because of it. "Well there are other resort activities if this sort of thing bores you." He had looked into other options just in case. That and also he figured it would help tell him where the young padawans run off to. But not many of them seemed to have made it so it wasn't a worry.

The man's nose took in the smell of Vayla's tea and he couldn't help but give a murmur at the pleasantness. It almost made him want to put his libation aside and relax with a cup of the stuff.

"I didn't want get a place too wild but not too dull." Byron shrugged a bit in response as he thought about it. The spa was one of several he could have picked from. "It seemed like it had decent access to the other things like boating, splunking, wake boarding, hiking, ziplining....um..." He thought about what else he would have actually booked on a vacation trip. The jedi's gaze came back into focus on the woman across from him. "make it fun for everyone...I guess I probably wouldn't go to a spa on my vacation if I'm being honest." It was a tone of that said he realized maybe he should have been aware of that before booking this place. Byron drained the last of his drink and ordered a follow up.

"So if not this...then what?" He gestured to the establishment around them. Raising a hand up he began to hand wave the headlines in the air between them. "Ideal vacation day for Vayla..." It was between the two of them but he was genuinely curious.

Byron’s dialogue was met with an attentive nod as Vayla listened on, sparing no look away from the man’s eyes for as long as he spoke. Her countenance would convey nothing of doubt or disinterest.

The only two Jedi in the room (as far as she could recognize), there was something so serene about just sitting in this room designed for comfort and conversing with tongues. Instead of with sabers...instead of with enemies…

At Byron’s waving hand, Vayla flicked a finger against her cup as though to ping away a bad idea.

“Spelunking, hiking—Nope. Exploring caves is what I do on a weekly basis.” Another flick. “Hmm, nightclub—Nah. Not ready for another one just yet.” Flick. “Luxury liner—Mm-mm. I can cruise on my own ship, thank you, cruise companies.”

Sighing out a smile, she looked around at all the amenities of the room. Ideal vacation day for Vayla… Then her lips curved as did her gaze upon Byron.

“I’ve got it.” Overhead music drifted down, enveloping the Jedi like their drinks and discussions, and Vayla might have sworn that she could hear chirping birds—singing serene song. “How about the Verdant Lotus day spa?”

Some people liked to let off steam in different ways. But the Pantoran jedi didn't seem to find the thrilling activities to be her cup of tea, so to speak. Byron did not say the pun though it did cross his mind. He could relate to not wanting to do the same thing as work in her off time. The same could be said for his ship and the ease to travel anywhere he wanted was at their disposal. Aside from the occasional desire to get drunk, Byron did not tend to go to nightclubs. But he found himself sizing her up in a cocktail dress or other attire appropriate for a night out on the town.

Byron grinned at hearing her suggest where they already were. "Fair enough. That does sound to be the easiest choice." The Jedi let himself sink a little more into the soft chair with those words in mind. Taking in a deep breath he would allow himself to stop worrying for today. Vayla was here but she was content and gave him every indication that was the truth. Nothing else to do. You can relax Byron The broad shoulders of the man, stiff with knots formed from stress dropped a bit more against the back of the seat.

"You're so wise." Byron added. While he wanted to relax fully, Byron Ryker did not want to fall asleep. At least not yet.

She might not have analyzed it, against her better judgment, what with her being a self-ascribed analyst of the absolute minutiae, but somehow just watching her counterpart settle into his seat was enough for Vayla to do the same.

Her back slid down, just enough not to slip, though soon enough she would allow her boots to slide off her feet and herself to slip into the spa. The very idea was as enthralling as an enthroned Sith. Silence.

Unfortunately for her active mind, some thoughts just slipped their way in from out of nowhere. No time for shadows now, Vay… Now is not the time… She sipped her tea, licked her lips, just as much licking away thoughts best left unspoken.

“Well…”
Vayla grinned after being credited with wisdom, however much in jest or otherwise. “I was trained by the wise Jedi, I’ll have you know.” Cup to lips, last sip was a bigger gulp than she realized, and suddenly the cup was empty.

Her next drink mimicked Byron’s, the gin and tonic as bright and zesty as one could hope for. “If only our temples included one of these places...we might just have had that many more prospects!” She laughed. Could she afford to? Surely. Nothing else to do. You can relax, Vayla.

Byron had not dealt with many Masters directly. Hannibal had still been a Knight and so had Indyana when Byron joined the order. The two of them had imparted as much to him as they could given the circumstances and he still considered both of them mentors.

Hearing Vayla talk about her master interested him. More so because he did not have a lot of experience when it came to the duties of the higher ranking Jedi. But there was more to it than that. A curiousity and interest in the bittersweet hints drifting off of the Pantoran when she pleasantly talked about her master. "Oh yeah? How'd you find your way to the order? I came at a time before Padawans had to be attended to by a Knight at all times. The Jedi that found me wasn't the one that ended up training me. They just brought me to Ajan Kloss."

Hearing her joke about the temple he couldn't help but chuckle. "True but I think we would have had a much more laxidasical jedi as a result." Most jedi could appreciate the simple things in life. In fact they were encouraged to. But the more and more that Byron saw other Jedi, the less he felt they understood the whole picture.

Nope
Stop thinking that
Relax

That'da boy

He reminded himself he was not supposed to be stressing about things at a time like this. "What do you think its like...having a padawan? Probably like having a little sibling." He remembered the times that he would get a sense Indyana was getting frustrated with her other padawans. That pantoran had plenty of experience or at least acted like it. "You seem like you could teach, if you don't mind my saying so." He spoke to Vayla, unintentionally comparing her to his own master.

Byron’s question was a prompt, as so often questions were, but it was the kind of prompt and poke and push that took Vayla on a trip down Memory Lane…

The Jedi were wise, it was known, and the wise Jedi did train Vayla—as an organization. As Byron and any other Jedi knew, however, a Jedi initiate was ultimately to be trained by just one other Jedi, and Vayla’s was an Anzat to both remember and forget.

No
Stop thinking that
Relax
That'a gal

Between Padawans and masters and spas and lackadaisical Jedi, well, it was all too much for this little Jedi cushioning herself beneath trancey jazz and with a glass of gin in hand.

“I…” Vayla hesitated, giving her gaze to the plants lining a wall; alive but living. Is it better that way...to have the Force flow freely through you without ever having to know it? “I’ve had two Padawans...and I miss both.”

When she said that her eyes were back on Byron, and where in those eyes there should have been a smile from a cushion close by there was instead a distant horizon of a sea with a lonely ship.

“Ke Eoto was the first… A Blood Carver.” Now her smile was on fond memories...far away though they were. “Asked much, answered much.” She sighed. If only there was a breeze to carry it away…

“Wurfuhlla the Wookiee, he was next… A rather more energetic youth… Helped me survive the onslaught of a Chirodactyl, that Pad."

Vayla licked her lips, sweeping away the bitter taste of the gin, and drank in whatever was coming out of Byron’s own eyes.

“O I’ve taught, Byron Ryker, but I’ve in turn learned that a Jedi cannot teach so well from the shadows…” Such is my burden.
