A noble technique, thought Corina. And she considered how to teach it.

"First," she said, "we will not practice on actual injuries, but I will explain the technique. I want you to close your eyes and center yourself. Then think about healing something. A wound or an illness, it is not important which, but consider what emotions you would need to control and demonstrate."

Eager, Pan snapped his eyes shut without question and focused on clearing his mind. His breath was deep and rhythmatic as he settled into a meditative state. In his minds eye he pictured an illness. "I would need to be calm, clear, a vessel for the Force to pass through. The body is imbalanced and.... I need to settle it."

"Yes, very good," she said, impressed with his clear approach, "now think compassionately and believe you can heal it. Believe you can right the wrong."

"Is that really all it takes Master? It seems so simple." Pan remarked, a little surprised. Regardless he did as she instructed.

"Now it does," she said, "but it takes a little more than willpower on an actual wound. A lot of young Jedi doubt themselves, and that closes many doors to them," she paused, "now we shall practice, come with me."

She stood up and led him into the academy.

"As you;re no doubt aware, Ossus is home to much wildlife. Many of the Jedi here care greatly for the animals and plants. Sometimes when a Jedi encounters a wounded animal, they bring them here in the academy," she gestured to a closed door, "to let them be healed. You will practice on one of those animals."

She led him inside and over to a small transparisteel cot. Inside was a small, furry animal, looking like it was asleep. It had a bandaged gash on on one of it's legs and an array of other scrapes and cuts.

"This animal has been badly wounded," she said, unwrapping the dressings, "I would like you to heal it."

Pan leaped to his feet and followed Corina into the academy.

He nodded, well aware of the little infirmary they had going for the animals. He was a friend of the wildlife himself. Faced with the creature she wanted him to heal he felt a tug of sympathy and gently rested his palm on the furred critter, whispering soothing words.

"Poor little guy." He closed his eyes and relaxed into the meditative state he had achieved outside. The wounds were like a glaring red wrongness in his mind. He opened himself up to the Force and let it flow through him and into the animal, soothing the wounds and willing the torn skin to close and heal.

The skin of the animal began to move together, as though sewing itself up. Corina smiled encouragingly at Pan, he had done well.

"That was good," she said, "but it is harder on a human. Follow me," she said, this time leading him to the human infirmary. Inside were all sorts of Jedi, suffering from various ailments beyond their control. It took only a few minutes before Corina found who she was looking for. Sitting on one of the waiting chairs was a youngling, a girl no more than six years old, tear marks on her cheeks. She was clutching her knee. Corina walked over and, introducing herself, asked what was the matter. The girl said that she had fallen over and hurt herself. Corina pulled the girl's trouser leg up a little to reveal a nasty looking gash.

"Don't worry," she said, "Pan here will heal you, won't you Pan?"

Pan grinned and gave the little animal an affectionate pat before following his Master. It hadn't been as hard as he had been expecting but the thought of healing a more complex, sentient creature like a human was a bit more daunting.

The Cathar crouched in front of the youngling girl, so as to be closer to her eye level, and smiled in a way he hoped was reassuring. "I most certainly shall. Try and relax, you're fine." Pan rested one hand on the girl's knee and the other just below the gash and closed his eyes. The trance was a little easier to find this time, more familiar. Once again he opened himself to the Force and let it poor through him and into the girl, focusing all his will on healing the injury.

The injury began to close as Pan concentrated, but then it stopped. The few luminescent blue dots that seemed to traverse it died.

"Concentrate, Pan. Think about healing her and will the Force to heal her. Believe in yourself," she said.

Pan blinked and tried not to get frustrated. 'I can do this.' he thought. 'I can.' He concentrated harder, visualizing the wound closing the rest of the way. He forced all of his will power into it.

The wound closed and the little girl smiled at him and thanked him. As they left Corina turned to him, "You can do it. And if you believe in the Force, then you will become a very skilled Jedi indeed."

Pan smiled, feeling a little drained. It had been worth it though. "I do not think being a healer is my calling but it is nice to know I am capable of it. Thank you, Master."

They walked back to the gardens and Corina turned to her padawan, "Apart from getting your crystal, when was the last time you ventured out of the temple on an errand or mission?"

Pan thought about it and shrugged. "I haven't really. I did once visit the monastery on Coruscant but that was many years ago and wasn't so much an errand or mission as it was for training."

"I have a task for you," she said, "you need to complete a mission. On your own."

She waited to see his reaction.

"On my own?" Pan tried to hide his shock, but it was evident from his posture. "Do you really think I am ready for that, Master?"

"Not on your own as such," she said, "with another padawan. And I'd have complete faith in you regardless of your companion. His name is Colm and you will meet him in the hangers later," she handed him a datapad, "this has the details on it. We have received news from Abregado-Rae. News of violence, disappearances and even deaths. We would like you and Colm to investigate it."

"Ahhh." Colm. He didn't recognize the name. Pan accepted the data pad. "Abregado-Rae?" Violence and death. It sounded dangerous. And a little bit exciting. "Understood, Master. When do we leave?"

"Tonight. I will inform Colm that you are to meet in the hanger. I will send you on your way there. For the rest of today, prepare what you need."

((I'll post the thread in the Story forum. Colm is Ruukil))

((OOC: Okay.))

"Alright." Pan bowed quickly and turned on his heel. As he strode away to prepare himself he couldn't help but grin. A real mission. This was going to be interesting.
