I don't really recall, at the top of my head, from old canon any armor that would allow a lone infantryman in to survive laser cannon blasts. However, in theory, a sufficiently powerfulhttp://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Personal_energy_shield could do that for a limited amount of time. This seems to be supported by what we know of Battlefront 3, see here, but that is still new canon + game canon subject to change at this point + it still apparently needs to be deployed on the ground and not attached to armor to make it work. But that is another, probably more reasonable, option for you if you want your character to survive laser cannon blasts for a short period of time than a suit of armor that can do so. Hope that helped!

Various descriptions contradict slightly, but for Mark III Katarn-class commando armour (the only one that actually comes to me right off the bat, but I still think there might be some others), it says it was able to survive a hit by a laser cannon. Of course, with that being made from different materials and having shielding, it could possibly have a chance to walk away. From my reading, this is meant to be able to let the wearer take a hit from light blaster cannons (what might be wielded by a person) to maybe the smaller ones that could be found on small vehicles, and keep going (minus their armour), but if a big blaster cannon like on tank-style vehicles or if a laser cannon hits them, they're probably still dead.

Okay, just going to say this. It may DEPEND on the Laser Cannon, as in, Light, Medium, or You're going to be a smoking Crater (Heavy). I also personally believe in thickness of armor because even incredibly thin armor, (Minus Phrik, and likely Mandalorian Iron or other materials with high durability and tensile strength) can withstand a barrage for long. So thin plates may not survive it, or, if you do, you may not be in good shape. Or, not want to get shot there again.

As for shields. I always thought the Katarn's was reactionary. It sensed an incoming Blaster Shot and for that brief time flared to life before going dormant. The remaining charge being a percentage of how much time it would take for the suit's built in powercells to recharge them.

EDIT: In your Pros, "Small-Arms" fire covers a very broad range of weapons. Could you please elaborate more? Is it Blaster Pistols, Heavy Blaster Pistols, Blaster Rifles? Or Slugthrowers? Because I could probably take a Mandalorian Ripper to it and ventilate just based on the term used.

Also, Clayton, y'may want to consider that Blaster Cannon. Those things could go from Stun, to Full Power. Wookieepedia is thy friend in this instance.

Really, this is a great example of EU insanity.

If you really wanted to stand up to a vehicle mounted weapon, you'd need a powered battle suit closer to a mech than a bulky suit of armor. A personal energy shield would probably be drained by one shot and the armor would take some damage, plus you'd get knocked on your ass, if you want to go the combined shield/heavy armor route.

Not so much as stand up to. More like, "Holy shit what was that oh my god everyone is dead and my armor is beat to crap and crumpled around me and all of my ribs are broken, but i'm alive so that's good!"

I can't see it taking a missile and surviving, unless the person was at the very edge of the blast radius. And I think it should be heavier too, for the defensive abilities.
