Quin felt the massive weight of the Killik break through his grip on it almost as soon as he tried to hold it with the Force. Kark! Then, to his horror, he saw it swing down to hit one of the other protectors, but he was too far to help. The battle was getting too costly. If only I’d been strong enough. If he’d been able to hold it…

The feeling of failure surfaced once again, but this time in the form of anger. Without thinking, the Padawan picked up the bladed spear of a fallen Killik and ran toward the monster. As soon as he was in range, he hurled the weapon as hard as he could at its exposed underside.

While he didn’t have high hopes for whether or not it would hurt the bug, Quin did want it to suffer like it and its kind had made the galaxy suffer. The people of Corellia had gone through enough.

While the Jedi struggled with maintaining the Killik immobilized with Force, Caerllion’s use of korriban magick ended being more successful. The Acolyte watched with delight the ball that he had thrown at the creature explode. It allowed someone to fire at the exposed underbelly with a blaster, making ichor flow from it.

Unfortunately, this attack seemed to have infuriated the Killik. The creature tried to attack him, but ended up hitting a Sector Ranger. Caerllion only watched the woman flying away and falling to the ground some meters away. He didn’t need to be a doctor to know that by the way that she had fallen, she was going to die.

Rather feeling sad for her, or even pity, the Acolyte simply felt annoyed. They already lost one defender and now another was eliminated. They needed to kill this thing or soon all of them would have the same fate as the Sector Ranger.

Then, he saw the Jedi aiming a spear at the creature’s underside. He could feel the anger coming from him and thought that the boy had reached his breaking point. Rather than delving into the possibility that the Light Sider was falling into the Darkness, Caerllion used the Force to increase the strength of the spear. Hopefully now it would be enough to kill the bug.

Drow felt a pang as yet another defender fell to the Killik onslaught. But the emotional detachment that came with the job of First Shadow kicked in and the Ishi Tib just narrowed his eyes and fired another burst - this one ten rounds - at the Tanker Killik. His clip almost out, Drow would wait to see whether that knocked the Tanker Killik out of the fight permanently before engaging in his next move.

Vahliri couldn’t help but grit her teeth with frustration, feeling as the Tanker Kilik tucked its legs and began to roll once more. Her assault replied upon the gargantuan Insectoid being too distracted to notice her climb up its own back, though it was apparent she had underestimated its awareness.

With little other option, the half-Annfyn deactivated her crimson lightsaber - freeing the blade from where it was wedged into the Tanker’s back. The Force flowed through her extremities as Vahliri proceeded to leap off the side of the Insectoid’s back - carrying safety back to the ground and away from it’s fantic swiping. Her body rolled across the ground a bit harsher than intended - ending as the half-Annfyn came up to a crouch.

Though her attempted Force Weapon had failed, Vahliri had remained relatively unharmed the entire battle and didn’t show signs of slowing yet. While her companions assailed the Tanker and one of them was yeeted across the battlefield, the half-Annfyn turned to face the Insectoid - both hands extending towards the Tanker as curled talons. The Force flowed through her fingertips and viciously punched into the wounds in its exposed underbelly - tendrils slipping into the holes and lacerations where ichor spurted from.

Slowly tearing her hands in opposite direction, Vahliri attempted to physically rip those wounds wider across the Tanker’s underbelly - hoping to amplify the damage that had already been done by the others.

Vahliri pulled her saber free by deactivating it and jumps off the Tanker's back. Once back on the ground, she attempts to use the Force on the Kilik's existing wounds to tear them open wider.

Davan didn't care if one hostage has died at his hand, but as long as the Killik that got inside didn't ruin everything left unchecked. Davan wondered if the Jedi who assisted him would lash out or something given he was so vehement against any harm coming to them. The Chiss didn't care for how the hostages felt. They could be horrified, they could be disgusted. They could be angry, but Davan knows that in the bigger picture a single life, or even in double digit numbers - are irrelevant. The Killik was alive, limping but still alive, Davan would stride closer and fire to end it with a Charric pistol to the head.

The Chiss would head back out and see the fight against the Tanker Killik, everyone else is doing all they can to bring that monster down. Davan doesn't have any high explosives nor does he can he use the Force like the Jedi and Sith. But there is something he can do. Davan would holster his pistol and bring up his heavy rifle again. Davan would point and aim his weapon, and attempt to fire three heavy blaster bolts in one of the monsters eyes that would be on it's right side.

** Upon the stairs and beyond. **
[ @Richie B. ]

The Killik fell, dead by Davan's shot. The kids were frozen, but bit by bit they began to move again. Some of the older kids began to comfort the younger ones, holding them close or speaking to them quietly. Some of them continued crying, and some of them all got up simultaneously and began to move in an orderly group down the hallway and away from the entrance. One of them, though, split off from the group and approached @Wayson Hanson. She looked to be one of the oldest there, though still no older than 16.

"I'll look after the kids. The others are going to see if they can find any FirstAid or water," she said to him plainly. "We'll notify the Corellian security guards if we notice anything."

The defenders continued their assault on the Tanker Killik. It would become more and more evident to everyone that, while a threat, the insectoid could be easily overwhelmed (especially when its assailants were force-sensitive).

@Varyn Atrix would feel the searing pain of heat burn alive in the palm of his hand as lightning shot forth from it. His anger fueled it, and the burst found its target in the damaged belly of the beast. @Quin Leonkri's spear (augmented by @Caerllion of Cyfnos) and @Drow Venn's barrage shots all followed shortly after and pierced deep into the burning, festering wound.

The creature let out a thunderous roar - or perhaps it was a scream - as pain wracked through its body. @Vahliri Kahtal only made things worse for the bug by digging figurative fingers into the wound, using the Force to put pressure on the wound. She would be unable to rip the wound apart as she'd hoped, but she was certainly hurting it even more.

As hard as the Tanker Killik was just hit though, it was a resilient creature. When it tucked its legs in and rolled toward the Firespray, it protected its stomach wound from further injury. Likewise, @Grerse'dava'nlon's shots wouldn't hit their intended target, but they would hit. Rather than the eyes, the shots left a scalding trough across the creature's face. More pain only made the creature angrier, and as soon as it realized Vahliri hadn't been crushed under its weight, it twisted around so that it was facing the group of Jedi and Sith.

Acid spilled out from its forehead appendage in a stream toward the defenders. Unlike before, this was intentional, so it came out quicker and stronger than before. It would swing from its right to its left, spraying Caer and Quin with the acidic substance before reaching Vahliri. For the Sith champion, it would charge forward a few steps a focus the stream of acid right at her, following her movements as needed.

Varyn didn't try to restrain the anger in himself anymore. It had handed him a power that surpassed anything he had experienced before but far, far more importantly than that, it was working. Varyn had always been a pragmatist, and the entire reason he'd opened himself to the Sith was simply because of pragmatism. If he could use this power to save others, then why wouldn't he?

This was the line of thought that Varyn had already meditated on and thought about. It was nothing new.

As the creature moved toward Vahliri, he was determined not to allow it to harm her. He wouldn't.

But he couldn't reach her from where he was, so he did the next best thing: attacked with vicious intensity. Between the lightning scorches and blaster shots there were still faint embers along the creature's flesh, and Varyn reached out to the Force. Stoking these embers, he brought them to a much greater blaze and shoved them forcibly into the creature's exposed organs where it should bake the creature inside its own armored shell, striking brutally at the creature's vulnerable bits.

Quin felt a dark kind of satisfaction when he saw the spear further pierce the wound of the Killik. It was what it deserved.

However, instead of backing off or retreating despite its injury, the bug only seemed to get angrier as it turned to face him and the Sith. Uh oh. As soon as he saw the acid spraying from the appendage on its head, the Padawan would quickly project the Force in front of him in an attempt to form a barrier. If the Sith was close enough beside him, he would try to cover him too.

When the bug then took its attention off of the pair and suddenly burst into flame, Quin would try to aid the Sith who started it by augmenting the fire with the Force to make it even larger. Even if the fire wouldn’t damage the shell of the creature, he hoped that it might potentially cook it alive.

Quin tries to make a Force shield to block the acid(depending on how close Caer is, he'll try to cover him too). Then he attempts to aid Varyn in his fire attack by making the flames larger.

Caerllion felt satisfied when he saw the spear pierce the Killik. The sounds of agony that it made were like music for the Acolyte. After all the trouble that they were going through to stop these things, knowing that they were finally being able to bring this monstrosity down was something to be celebrated.

However, the Acolyte couldn’t celebrate the damage that their efforts caused in the creature. The Killik had started to expel its acidic substance toward him and the Jedi that was next to him. Caerllion was able to feel the Light Side making a shield around him and trying to extend it toward the Annfyn.

Hoping to give himself more chances to escape the acid, the Acolyte also used the Force to make a shield. He would combine it with the one made by the Jedi, strengthening this defense against the attack of the Killik.

When the creature started to burn, Caerllion would once again focus his rage in the flames. This would increase their intensity and hopefully would end this damned creature once and for all.

Caerllion uses the Force to make a shield and combines it with the one made by Quin, increasing the protection against the acid. Then, he would use his rage to increase the flames at the Killik's body.

Whatever happened to the hostages now was not important to Davan. As for the tanker had hoped to blind it, so that the group could contuine to kill it with with impunity., but that wasn't meant to be oh well. No matter though as it looks like the tanker is on the ropes.

With the belly of the beast exposed however, Davan would see a prime target to exploit. Aiming for the belly, Davan would fire four steady, slow-paced heavy blaster shots. Heavy blasters caused lots of recoil when fired, but he was being mindful of it and was making more precise shots.

Heavy blaster bolts should do lots of damage still, even more that they are hitting an open chink in it's proverbial armor, which is also being further worked by the others. Davan was mindful of that acid spray, he watched the tanker spray towards some of the Jedi and Sith, but not at him. Davan was ready to spring on his feet to avoid it if the big beast decides to spray towards him.

Davan hopes that this would kill the beast. The faster it's dead, the better. Even wounded it's still a big threat.

Vahliri allowed the faintest grin to tug at the corners of her lips - watching as the Tanker writhed and screeched under the combined assault. The Insectoid serves as the face of the Kilik threat - the very thing that threatened those Vahliri cared about - and she took no lack of satisfaction in its suffering. Those pangs kf agony radiated out through the Force, and the half-Annfyn drank in every ounce as her attack dug viciously deeper.

All the same, Vahliri was only allowed a few moments before the attention of the Insectoid fell upon her. The half-Annfyn’s eyes narrowed harshly, the Force diminishing from her fingertips as she instead began to move to defend herself against the spray of acid. While her allies could capitalize on the distracted Insectoid, Vahliri knew that facing it head on would be a mistake. As the spray of acid swung right to left and began to shower her allies, Vahliri began to strafe further to the left and backwards - attempting to distance herself from the Tanker and force it into pursuit.

While Varyn channeled Inferno in its most brutal application, Vahliri extended her free hand towards the Tanker - allowing the Force to billow from her palms as she ran. The shell of a Force barrier was erected in front of the stream of acid directed towards her - attempting to block the attack mid-air. She attempted to blow the caustic substance back into the Insectoid - or at the very least, buy herself a few precious moments of reprieve.

Regardless of the result, Vahliri continued to strafe to the left - making no effort at a sustained channel of the Force. She moved herself towards the wreckage of the downed starship, attempting to use the bunk of meta as cover - forcing the Tanker to either continue its pursuit or address her allies.

Vahliri started strafing to the further to the left and towards the ship in an attempt to avoid the Kilik acid. She erects a brief force barrier in front of the stream of acid to buy herself time and potential blow the caustic substance back in the Tanker’s face.

With his repeater almost out and the dying Tanker Killik becoming very unpredictable, Drow thought it was past time for machines. No, this situation didn't call for a repeater - it called for the Force. Closing his eyes, the Ishi Tib Master ignited his yellow-bladed lightsaber, gauged the distance and threw it like a javelin, using the Force to keep its aim straight and true towards the beast's head. Once it made contact, Drow would use the Force to pull it back into his hands.

TLDR: Drow throws his saber at the Killik's head

** A Core Problem. **

The girl seemed to take Wayson's silence as acceptance, so she left to rejoin the group of children. She stopped in the entryway of the room, able to keep an eye on the room, the hallway, and the entrance to the building itself. Her posture was straightened and her face was void of any emotion. One of the kids from the room ran up to her crying, and she kneeled down after a second to give the little kid a short hug.

Elsewhere, the group from before continued down the hallway, making it all the way to the end where they approached a pair of CorSec soldiers guarding the entrance deeper into the Core. The guards steadied themselves and one called out to the kids, "You don't need to be back here." They completely ignored the CorSec soldiers though and kept approaching.

"Stay back, or we'll be forced to shoot," said the other guard. As the group got closer and closer though, he seemed unwilling to do so. Famous last words, one might say, as he was tackled by one of the kids. A fight ensued, more kids joined in, and the other guard panicked. Did he shoot?

When a shot was fired and the wrestled guard was put down by his own stolen weapon, the other guard decided he would in fact shoot. He got two shots off - downing two kids - before a blaster bullet hit him square in the face. The gun was distributed to a member of the group, then half of them rushed through the formerly-guarded doors and into the inner Core. The others - including the two with the stolen guns - remained stationed just behind the second entrance.

As the Tanker Killik burned alive from the inside out from @Varyn Atrix's attack, the sounds of its pained screams filled the city air and resonated in the chests of every defender standing against it. @Quin Leonkri and @Caerllion of Cyfnos threw up force barriers to protect themselves from the onslaught of the corrosive liquid sprayed their way, saving them from all but a few stinging drops of the acid that might eat through bits of their clothing. @Vahliri Kahtal, who was on the move, managed to do the same, avoiding all but a few stings of the acid.

@Grerse'dava'nlon, who wasn't in range of the insectoid's deadly fluids, was able to get a clear shot at the creature. They hit squarely in the creature's chest-like area as it reared up in pain, desperately trying to shake away the burning heat inside it. When the shots buried themselves into its unprotected underside though, it almost instantly seized up. For a moment, it was almost completely still, but it wouldn't be long before the creature collapsed into a smoking pile of flesh, chitin, and ichor on the ground. The impact it made would shake the ground and leave a cracked imprint in the ground underneath it, but it fell backward and wouldn't put any of its killers in danger of being crushed.

It appeared that for now at least, the defenders would have a moment to catch their breaths. There were more bugs off in the distance, but they had slowed their advance almost completely to a stop as CorSec and ISC reinforcements began the assault further from the Core.

"We should check up on the children and make a final sweep of the Core before we call it a victory," the CorSec captain called out as she made her way down the stairs to join the independent defenders. She looked pretty worse for wear, and there was a large gash along her arm where a Killik's spear had presumably sliced through. Her jaw was clearly tense; some of her soldiers had died, there were injured, and she'd witnessed the death on the battlefield.

"I will—"

Before she could finish, the distant sound of blaster fired sounded behind her, within the Core.

Varyn's breath was coming heavily to him as he watched the tanker Killik squirm to death under his assault. It let out a final death screech and Varyn felt powerful as it did. He had done that. He had scorched the life out of the creature with purging fire, and saved those people. Yes, that, and saved those people.

His saber still hummed in his hand, its familiar weight always a welcome comfort in situations like these, but as the adrenaline began to finish its course, his mind turned not to the death he had caused or the power he wielded but the woman that he... uh... had feelings toward. What good was all of it if you couldn't protect those you cared about?

He hurried over to her but saw her moving, which he took as a good sign.

Hey, you okay? Nice work, he said (@Altaris), glancing back at the dead creature. He couldn't argue that it had been a team effort and none of them alone could have felled the beast.

His pleasant moment of victory, however, was shattered as blaster fire erupted inside the Core and he spat a loud curse.

There wasn't time to hesitate as he scrambled toward the sound, saber at the ready for whatever might be inside.

Quin turned his face away from the few droplets of acid that managed to make it past the shield. A couple would land on the sleeve of his outstretched arm, burning through the fabric. Fortunately, clothing was replaceable, but time wasn’t. The Killik was exposed now, and it was a perfect time to strike.

The others got to it before Quin did, though. He held his breath as he watched the blaster bolts hit the chest of the creature, and only let it out when it fell down with a crash. With no more live Killiks visible in his immediate surroundings, the Padawan started to feel his energy fading along with the adrenaline.

“That was something.” He turned to the Sith beside him, giving him a faint smile. “You know… if we weren’t on opposite sides in the war, I think we could be friends.” Neither would get much time to think about the sentiment, however. Soon after, blaster shots would sound from the Core and that pressure to keep on moving returned. More bugs? He would follow the other Sith towards where the sound was coming from, saber hilt in hand, hoping that it wasn’t yet another Tanker Killik. (@LouJoVi)

Vahliri felt as beads of sweat began to roll down her chests, every bit of air exhaling from her lungs with heavy, labored breaths. The half-Annfyn had been given little opportunity to catch her breath since the start of the battle - as she desperately attempted to avoid the creatures that - for whatever reason - had a proclivity for attempting to crush her. Her feet carried her across the battlefield and behind the cover of the ship - allowing her allies the opportunity they needed to deliver the killing blow.

The half-Annfyn emerged once again as the Tanker squirmed in its death throes - not bothering to slow down long enough to enjoy the sight. Her strides took her back towards Varyn - yellow-tinted eyes locking onto the fellow Champion. “I’m alright,” She said, finally allowing herself to briefly catch her breath. For the most part, she had come out relatively unharmed - save for a bit of acid burns and colliding with the ground. “Are you?” The half-Annfyn immediately searched him for injuries.

“You too,” She offered Varyn a soft smile, allowing her gaze to linger upon him for a long moment. "At least some of us have to get shit done."

It wasn’t until the sound of blaster fire echoed from within the Core. Her sensitive hearing picked up on the commotion at once, and the half-Annfyn merely glanced at Varyn before beginning to sprint in the opposite direction. Her crimson saber moved into a defensive guard across her body, positioned in preparation as she made her way towards the stairs.

Vahliri followed Varyn and Quin to the Core.

While his Force shield was able to protect most of the acid, some droplets were still capable of passing through it. Thankfully, they only touched his clothes, leaving some burns. It left Caerllion annoyed, now he would need to buy new ones. How he hated the Killiks.

After the combined efforts of all the defenders, the creature was finally killed. The Killik finally fell to the ground. With it died the last threat to the reactor. The Annfyn even looked around, expecting another of the insectoids to appear, but there was no signal of them. It seemed that they had won.

When he heard the Jedi talking, Caerllion turned to look at him. While they worked well together, the Acolyte would not go too far in saying that they would be friends. “Who knows.” it was the only thing that he would say. The Annfyn only wanted to find a ship to get out of Corellia and find a place to rest.

Unfortunately, his plans to rest would need to be postponed. The sound of a blaster being used alerted the defenders to the fact that there was something happening inside the Core. He saw one of the other Sith and the Jedi run toward it and went after them. Sighing, Caerllion thought how many of the bugs still remained.

** A Core Problem. **

The four of them - three Sith and a Jedi- would rush into Core to see the falling bodies of several CorSec soldiers as they were gunned down by children wielding their guns down the hall. A small group of fifteen was off to their side, and the group consisted of mostly injured or very young kids. Straight in front of them, further down the hall by a pair of inner doors, was another group of fifteen-some. Two of the kids in this group wielded guns while the others picked up rocks and rubble to throw.

As soon as the group appeared in the hallway - @Vahliri Kahtal @Quin Leonkri @Caerllion of Cyfnos @Varyn Atrix - the two kids with guns set a spray of bullets their way. The one sent them straight at @Vahliri Kahtal, while the other sent his shots at @Caerllion of Cyfnos.

Fortunately for the four of them, kids are easy to kill. Unfortunately for the four, killing kids isn't exactly the most fun thing to do.

Time was of the essence, though. There were a few of them missing, and from the way the kids at the doorway were blocking it with their bodies, they could definitely assume someone was up to no good behind them.

When Quin went into the Core, the fact that he was the only Jedi surrounded by three other Sith was the last thing on his mind. Instead, he was immediately taken aback by the sight of children wielding blasters. What was more, they began to fire at the group, and he quickly raised his saber to defend against any incoming bolts. What were they doing? Then the thought suddenly occurred to him that they might think they were Joiners. With what they’d been through… it was only natural.

“Wait! Put down your blasters! We’re not here to hurt you!” the Padawan shouted, trying to be heard over the noise of blaster fire. “We’re not with the bugs! We’re here to help!”

He could see that there were two groups here, and some of the members were injured. They would need medical assistance. If they stopped firing, he would slightly lower his lightsaber, trying to show them that he meant what he said.

When he arrived with the rest of the group at where the sound of shots was coming, Caerllion saw that the responsibles for it were a bunch of children. If the loud guy wasn’t down, the Annfyn would have screamed that he was right. It was obvious that the little pests were Joiners. Only an idiot would not have expected that!

The Acolyte was furious. If his warnings had been accepted, they would not be needing to deal with this situation right now. As soon as the children pointed the guns at him, Caerllion sent a Force blast toward them. Hopefully, it would deflect the bullets that came out of the weapon. He would also use his lightsaber to block any possible blaster shot that came to his direction.

Due to his angered state, the Force blast was more powerful than he had expected. It would reach the children and if they aren’t prepared for that would send some flying.

The Jedi trying to talk with them made Caerllion roll his eyes behind his helmet. “It's too late for them, they are lost. I told you all that they were Joiners. We should have immobilized them early.” he said to the others, while preparing his lightsaber. “Are you going to ignore it again or start to deal with them?

Whatever was their answer, the Acolyte was prepared to move against them. While it could be considered cruel of him to want to kill the children. It was a necessary sacrifice if they wanted to save the Core.
