I've never played 40K or made a character for it, but I find the lore interesting enough to learn about. I'd like to give this a shot.

I'll be putting up a sign up shortly; what I'm thinking is perhaps a generic character sheet and everyone can take their pick of gear to begin. That said, with the few we have interested who have never played, I may pull my old points-buy list that explains each piece of equipment and its uses on the battlefield. Just as well, I am downsizing us to be a Company, rather than a regiment simply because in my experience, regimental commanders have very little interaction with their enlisted grunts besides the required, while a company level officer interacts much more and fights alongside his or her soldiers. So, we will be a company within a regiment, rather than an entire regiment. That would make my character a Major instead (though, our commissar will of course retain his place. However, he will be company level, as will any other attaches.)

So long as I can then switch to the commander of an attached reconnaissance and forward assault element. Because to drop from a regiment down to a company-sized element severely limits one's options as far as character options where officers are concerned. You are either in headquarters, one of the platoons, an attached element, or enlisted.

Well, there's also Battalion level Slamdingo, however I'm not looking for a lone wolf leading a squad. In the final roleplay I'm hoping we function as a unit; we can have a loner or two in the unit itself, but as far as just you and a bunch of NPC's going out on your own, not so much. A Karskin attache would work as far as having a place in the unit to assist in their training, and taking a detachment to use as the unit's scouts in any mission whatsoever, but not something to just do on your own necessarily.

That said, thanks for the input! That's what this thread is for is to help me gather ideas and find the best fit for those who are gonna play. The regiment fits best for you, and also allows us to have dedicated scouts, but in the end the Hesperan Legion will still be a bunch of ground pounders XD

Scouts and forward assault on a company level are hardly weeks and thousands of miles away from the company. Their main job at that point would be things such as aiding to secure the immediate flanks or help clear a way.

I am well aware. However, at the company level, there wouldn't necessarily be a complete separation between soldiers as to who the scouts are and are not. It'd just be assigned; mind you, the most skilled would probably be the most often selected.

Well obviously being from the Death Korp of Krieg, my Commissar's gonna want to influence the unit a little- as well as add on a sense of practicality by mixing in some of the DKoK's uniform theme in there.

On another note, I won't be able to post anything for at least 3 days while I'm away from home- and the place where I'm travelling to probably doesn't have internet, so this is sort of my advance warning. So if the sign up thread has already been posted up, sorry if you don't see my character just yet. Reserve, perhaps? I don't know how you'll do this, but I still do want in as a Commissar :3

I've already reserved you a spot! The way I have seen it thus far, my character has roots in the Mordian Iron Guard, but I imagine any Founding of a new regiment does mean a mix of gear and equipment excess from existing regiments as well. Anyone can develop their character to look however they might; Cadia will be our primary sponsor, but I imagine the uniforms we are issued will vary depending on specialty and backstory.

That said, a commissar from Krieg is still a commissar first!. That said...don't execute players XD

I could lead my platoon from the 97th Conglomerate. Or better yet, we could be of the Conglomerate (which would be extremely sensible if we're as mixed a pot as I think we are). Essentially, an entire regiment formed of last men standing and final companies or platoons of regiments that the Munitorium has no clue what to do with. If you want, I can post a summary of their operations I have written down.
