Cane Es Cade
Senator of Empress Teta (prior to the Congress oocly being dissolved); if not him, I'm fine with whatever.
Committees: 1) Science, 2) Armed Services, 3) Foreign Relations

Are there any other committees you'd be willing to be on, Weiss, such as Labor? I ask because you're the FL of the Chiss. While the Chiss aren't, strictly speaking, an enemy faction, we all know what the current situation is and I'd rather not see you presented with any conflicts of interest.

That said, Empress Teta is yours since you had it during the previous Congress.

Sure, I can do another committee. I kinda choose those at random.

By the way, who is the Congressional representative to the Jedi Council?

By the way, who is the Congressional representative to the Jedi Council?

The Senate, in its first full meeting, will elect the person. I'll put forward a few nominees that I think would be a good fit, and then the Senate can vote on it. Think of it like the American government choosing a Supreme Court Justice. The President makes the nomination, and the Senate confirms them. Only in this case, the Congress elects 1 from a group fo nominees.

Alright, I've made my choices. I tried to give everyone their first or second choice for planets and committees. There were a few instances where I don't think that worked out for everyone, but hopefully you'll all be satisfied with where you've been placed.

Fyston: Corellia; Armed Services and Alliance Security (chairman of the committee)
Jiang: Kushaa'vo; Armed Services and Alliance Security
Count Sam: New Alderaan; Armed Services and Alliance Security

Cassanova: Sluis Van; Science and Technology (chairman of the committee)
Andrew719: Kashyyyk; Science and Technology

Maverick: Cularin; Foreign Relations (chairman of the committee)
MoreThanSane: Naboo; Foreign Relations
Padme: New Jedi Order; Foreign Relations (as Prime Envoy)

Defiance: Columnus; Commerce (chairman of the committee)
Roy everdale: Zeltros; Commerce

Weiss: Empress Teta; Labor (de-facto chairman until there are more members)

You can now begin to post your characters. Stay tuned for more info on our first Senate meeting.

Are we referring to our characters as Members of Congress, Congressmen, or Senators? 0.o

The official title would be "Representative," though Senator and Member of Congress would be used colloquially if you want.

Sorry for the double post.

I just wanted to get this out there in, hopefully, a clear way to those playing characters involved in Congress.
I know that you, Bac, already said this, pretty much, I just thought I'd reiterate. I apologize for being redundant.

That mindset (Reps being able to dictate what a planet or system does/allows/etc.) is what put Congress under last time it was in place. The Representative of a system is just that; a representative of the people's of the system. They have no real power of what happens on the system. Of course they have plenty of influence, but simply because they say something doesn't mean it's going to be done in the system they're representing. Their focus is on galactic affairs and the good of their system within the Alliance and within the galaxy as a whole. Overall, their role is to make the Alliance stronger and, thus, the system they represent. I hardly think they're going to worry much about bands of criminals unless it was really bad. Even then, they would only bring it up if it was an issue on other planets/in other systems.

Cassanova said:
Your Congress characters are not free tickets for you to set up a poorly thought out Independent Faction that makes no sense to have on that particular planet. Despite being the Representative of the planet, Andrew, your character does not have the authority to approve such an action.

And this goes for not only indie factions (of course), but anything about the planet. As has been said already, a Representative is not the king/queen/emperor/overlord/leader of any system or planet.

EDIT: Or we can look at the write ups that have been posted that I just noticed... >.>

Bac, I understand the initial sign-ups are closed, but I've been invested into a system like this since Pros was FL with John Ryan. I hope you'll take that into consideration, and the fact that I wasn't active when the initial sign-ups were held, and allow me to join.

Anyways, here are my choices for planets and committees if you do:

Planets
1. Geonosis
2. Boz Pity
3. Onderon

Committee
1. Commerce Committee
2. Foreign Relations Committee
3. Labor Committee

Your profile mentions a different planet than the ones you've chosen. I assume you'll be retconning that?

If so, you'll be the Representative of Boz Pity (Geonosis is currently disputed between Alliance and Mandos), and I'd like you to sit on the Labor Committee since, so far, it only has 1 person.

Indeed, the retcon will be done shortly. I'm not sure how well I'll do on the Labor Committee, but I'll certainly try my best.

(Also, the reason why I listed Geonosis was because it was disputed. I figured it would offer an interesting story.)
