Brendon walked out of his barracks and down the pathway to the exit. He felt so cramped in the base and was pleased of his breaks. He had not been on a mission in over a week, but his squad had been put through many hours of rigorous training simulations. He needed to unwind. The local cantina was not too bad, he thought, and he knew some of its regular patrons and his friends went their when they were off duty. As he left he saw a pretty young girl in the doorway. He recognised her because of the tattoos on her face, he had seen her in the base. He knew she was a private, but did not know her name, "Private," he called out, "where are you off to?"

((Ruukil, this is the thread and you don't need to ask))

Abele looked over smiling expecting to see another private. She then noticed he was a Lieutenant, startled she snapped to attention and saluted.
"Sir! I was going on temporary leave out of the base,"she paused for a moment not knowing what to say next then remembered ,"Sir!"
The sun was hitting her face directly and she squinted a little.

"At ease, I'm off duty," he said, thinking she must have seen him around the base as he was out of uniform now, "I'm off to the cantina, need a companion?"

Cori had drug her out of her apartment for the day against her will and better judgment. He had said something about drinking away her sorrows and how she needed to get over that no good fiancee of hers. If he hadn't been there for her so much then she would never let him talk to her in the manner.

She sipped her ale and looked over at Cori. She was not having a good time at all, but he seemed to be. He was chatting it up with two native girls while she was left be her lonesome. She took another drink and looked around the cantina for a handsome man to come her way.

"Sure!"she lowered her arm and turned away from the sun to face him directly. "I'd love to go there with you Lieutenant." She was glad there was somewhere to go. She held out her arm to put it around his sholder." Then we should be off." The lieutenant was younger than her but he seemed nice, if not a bit tired.

((A little forward...he was just looking for company lol))

He was taken aback by her putting her arm around him, but he hoped she was just being friendly. They walked over to the cantina and he spied a free table. They went over and stood by it, "What'll you have to drink?" he asked, ordering a large ale for himself. He was not in a good mood today, the date may not be anything special to most but it was to him. It was on this day two years before that his life had been ruined.

((she's just being friendly))

"I have whatever's Correlian," she said to the waiter removing her arm from around him. She stood there for a moment. And waited for the drinks to arrive. There were many people from the base that raised their heads and nodded or waved a small greeting. "Republic officers love it here don't they?" She asked wide eyed at all the officers scattered over the room.

"It's local and the ale is good and cheap," he said lazily, downing the rest of his drink. He looked up and recognised a few people from the base, nodding to a couple in greeting. He saw a young man, about his own age, chatting up two Coruscanti girls he had seen here a few times before. In the corner was a girl with bright blonde hair. He could not see her face clearly, but she was on her own poor girl he thought, but it was not his job to fix the problems of strangers. He turned back to his companion, "So, what's your story?"

Calleigh ordered another drink and turned to find Cori. He was still flirting with the girls and she knew that he would run out of money from buying them drinks and come to her for more. She didn't mind though, because he had taught her everything she knew for free.

She stood slowly and walked over to Cori and the girls.

"Excuse me, Cori"

He turned and smiled at her, telling the girls he would be right back.

"I am gonna head home," she said as she started to put her hair up into a ponytail. "Stay here and have a good time"

Cori leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "I will stop by later to see you"

"Alright"

She gave him a hug and started to head toward the door so she could go home. She reminded herself that this was a bad idea, because it had been 2 years since the murders.

Brendon swallowed another gulp of ale and wondered if he really wanted to be here. But if he was back at the base he would just be in his quarters or in the gym, and he was in no mood for that either. He would visit Fresia next time he was on leave, he always made sure he did, to visit the graves of his loved ones. As he finished his second drink and thudded the glass down on the table he noticed the blonde girl get up, go over to the young man with the Coruscanti girls, kiss him and go to leave.

As she came closer he thought he recognised her. Calleigh? he though, no, I must be drunker than I thought. He wondered if his mind was playing tricks on him, today of all days. As she walked over to the door a breeze ruffled through her hair and he saw a small tattoo of a flower on the back of her neck. His stomach rolled over, nerves and wonderment racing through his body. She was leaving and he had half a second to do something. If he spoke and it was not her, he would look like a fool. If he spoke and it was her...what would he say. As she was leaving he swallowed hard and took the plunge, "Calleigh!" he called out.

Calleigh felt a cold shiver run through her body and she paused. Only one person knew she was alive and that was not his voice. She closed her eyes and swallowed hard as she turned around, slowly. She looked around to see where the voice had come from and say him, Brenden. She took a step back and felt the world start to spin around her. She put her hand on the bar to steady herself and stared at him. She could feel the tears starting to fill her eyes.

"Brenden?"

It was her alright. Unless he had gone truly mad. She looked different from the young, naive girl he had once been engaged to. He was torn between rushing up to her and hugging her tightly or asking the barman what he had put in his drink. He was speechless, and for such a confident leader that was strange. If this was happening, then he should be ecstatic to see her, but she had just kissed another man. He looked at her, his eyes still open wide in shock.

"Calleigh..." he started before realising he had no clue what else to say. He had thought she was dead. What do you say to someone when they come back from the dead? He said the first thing that came into his head, "Where have you been?"

Abele smiled slightly then realized that Brendon didn't quite look completely here. Maybe the barman had put something in his drink, but then she realized the girl. He was looking strait at her, like he'd seen a ghost. "Are you alright Brendon?" she asked concerned about him.

Calleigh brought her left hand up to her mouth, one could see her engagement ring, and started cry. She couldn't believe it was him.

"Brenden," it was the only thing she could manage to say as she took a few steps toward him. "I have been on Coruscant for 2 years"

He barely heard his companion speak, he was in so much shock.

He saw something glint on Calleigh's hand and realised it was her engagement ring, the ring he had given her so long ago, and warmth rushed through his body. He saw tears rolling down her soft cheeks and realised there were tears in his own eyes too. He managed to walk up to her, where she was standing and took her in his arms, in a warm embrace, "you're back now," he said, feeling as though he would never let her go.

He could not believe she had been so close for two years and he had not seen her. But he had now.

She put her head on his shoulder and let all the emotions flow through her. She just wanted to cry and not let anyone take her away from him. She pulled away a minute later and stared at him.

"Why didn't you look for me?"

He was not sure what to say. For the three months he had had compassionate leave for this he had spoken to the powers that be on the case. The only evidence was the note left by the murderer, and with the war brewing it had been quite hard for him to follow the him. He had been all over the galaxy since then, with his special operations squad, hoping to find the one who had done this, so bent on revenge he had given up hope on her still being alive. He swallowed hard again, "I thought you were dead."

He though for a moment and then asked "Surely you could have got a message to me if you were still alive?"

Calleigh could see his point. She wiped her eyes and looked around the cantina, slowly. Several people were looking their way, including Cori, but she didn't care.

"I didn't want the assassin to know I was alive and come after me. I'm so sorry"

"Don't be sorry, I've found you now," he said and pulled her closer. He caught her sweet scent as he moved closer, holding her close to him, "And I'm never going to let you go."

He moved his head towards hers and he pressed his lips to her soft ones in a kiss.
