DESCRIPTION​

The Braco M1212 is a slugthrower hand weapon developed, produced and sold by the Braco & Co. Repeating Arms company, a major arms and ordinance manufacturer headquartered - and operating solely - on the home-world of one Helen Holcomb. Not having access to Galactic standard technology, Braco's products would be considered inexcusably primitive by the standards of most worlds, the M1212 being no exception, however they work well enough for the beings who use them.

The M1212 is a military firearm produced at the behest of - and primarily in service with - the armed forces of the United States of Hemispheria, one of the planet's larger nation-states. Simple in construction, it is made of primarily stamped and milled steel alloy, and has an entirely mechanical firing mechanism, utilizing no electronics or other solid-state components even for targeting, which is accomplished using a manual notch-and-bead sight. The weapon is self-loading and self-cocking after the first shot, a new and radical feature in local weapons technology, and can fire 16 shots from a detachable grip-mounted magazine before requiring a reload. By the standards of its planet of origin, the M1212 is a solid, hard-hitting weapon, and has inspired numerous imitators across its world. Like all slugthrowers, of course, it is considered greatly inferior to energy weapons such as standard blaster pistols in terms of ammunition capacity and stopping power.

Currently, the only Braco M1212 known to reside off-world is in the possession of the aforementioned Helen Holcomb, a military pilot who was captured by slavers and abducted, only to escape and find herself struggling to survive in the wider Galaxy. When she escaped, she was able to recover some of the items the slavers had taken off her when she was captured, including her sidearm. Though she tends to prefer a blaster these days, Helen keeps her M1212 as a last-ditch backup, as well as a healthy supply of ammunition, which she had custom-made by an outlaw tech.

LEGALITY​

Legal. Ownership of slugthrowers is not restricted in most of the Galaxy, however openly carrying such a weapon in public might be on more "civilized" worlds. On less civilized worlds, it still might draw unwanted scrutiny.
