BAKURAN SHIPYARDS

EXPAND PRODUCTION

Material by Axeon Jarek for Bakuran News Network

This material was prepared with the support of Bakuran Shipyards. Their representatives provided the necessary information and invited me for a tour around a newly-constructed Salis D'aar-class yacht. I was never asked to curtail my opinion or describe Bakuran Shipyards and their products only in the positive light.

For all the talks about "typical Bakuran idleness", our planet has been a large contributor to the galactic community. Especially to the Outer Rim and Mid-Rim, and especially after the fall of the Galactic Empire and the First Order. Despite the inefficiency that plagued Bakura and her government in the previous decades, we delivered. From agricultural products like wines or Namana wood, to high-end technology like repulsorlift coils. But we could be so much more.

When Governor Alyse Ti'Varnus came into power after the unfortunate death of her father, Bakura's chains were broken. No longer stifled by the ineffective planetary bureaucracy, or the regulations of the Free Worlds Alliance, we sought our own path. We relied on ourselves more than ever before: politically, economically, and militarily. And along the way, we found more ways to contribute and prosper.

If you have ever visited Bakura, you've undoubtedly seen a BSV-01, commonly known as "the Newt". Bakura's first own mass-produced vessel after the fall of the Galactic Empire. An effective and viable solution for defending a planetary system. Intoxicated with its success, we mass-produced these ships... Until, towards the beginning of the term of Khar Ti'Varnus, Bakura was called upon to take a more active part in galactic affairs.

"The effective solution" forced us to deploy carrier corvettes if we wanted to secure the entirety of trade routes, and not just the final approach. This is one of the many problems that Mr. Ti'Varnus's office had to deal with. A problem which he partly alleviated by branching the Newt into the civilian sector. It has become a common mode of transportation for those who could afford it ever since.

But Bakura's ships are once again to go beyond our system's borders.

The Governor's Office has announced that due to the favorable situation in the market, Bakuran Shipyards will once again be expanding the production of Newt Interceptors. The uncertainty of the independent and Free Worlds of the Outer (and occasionally Mid) Rim about their safety, coupled with apparent inability of Prime Minister Naeva Rue to address the challenges, has prompted representatives of nearby systems to contact Bakuran Shipyards on their own.

I have to say, it is a wise move. Admittedly, the lack of a hyperdrive on a standard Newt is a hurdle. But the worlds that can't afford to look beyond their borders—like Bakura of old—could benefit from a cost-effective solution to their defense problems. Once they are ready to tackle greater challenges, an aftermarket hyperdrive or a hyperdrive booster ring could help. Astromech sockets are also an option for worlds that exercise fewer precautions about droids.

This wouldn't be the first time Bakura exported its Newts. Alyse Ti'Varnus is treading in her predecessors' footsteps. What makes this arrangement different is the scope. Apparently, there is interest as far as Bespin and Jakku, and some deals have already been secured. If they are as big as our sources tell, that could cause the biggest growth spurt for Bakuran Shipyards yet.

But there's more: where Khar Ti'Varnus's and previous administrations only dealt in Galactic Standard Credit, the current Governor's Office confirmed that deals could be made in different currencies, depending on the counterpart. Leasing schemes or even barter for valuable resources or technology would be considered. If this move is successful, Bakura could be poised to bolster its position as an important financial center of its sector and the Outer Rim.

And there is more to it than just military export.

No, I'm not talking civilian Newt models (although they're also on the table, and some agreements have already been made). Tiana Kalderi, one of Bakura Shipyards representatives, has offered me a tour of the Salis D'aar—the first Bakuran-made mass-produced yacht. Designed for the more demanding audiences from the Core to the Outer Rim, it blends executive luxury and Bakuran ingenuity into a work of art.

I'll tell you this: I am hyped. Hyped for the press embargo to be lifted, so that I could tell you everything about it, and show the holos that Ms. Kalderi promised to provide at a later date. It's everything that a luxury yacht needs to be, and more. My only regret is that most of the galaxy will be observing the ship on the HoloNet. Despite being mass-produced, it would be a limited series of 200... And most of the Salis D'aars have apparently found their buyers already, even though they're yet to leave the spaceport.

I know for certain that Bakuran Senate and Defense Forces have purchased a few. Even Governor Ti'Varnus is said to have acquired one for her personal use, to promote Bakuran Shipyards. The name of the ship is yet to be revealed to the public; when asked about it, Governor Ti'Varnus reacted with her patented keen smile.

The future looks... cautiously hopeful.

If the Newt Interceptor and the Salis D'aar Luxury Yacht find success with their intended audiences, it could mean a new era for Bakuran shipbuilding and technology. Bakuran Shipyards already have a few other projects in the pipeline; if they succeed, other Bakuran companies might follow suit to expand the export portfolio.

Despite her busy schedule, we have secured a comment form Governor Ti'Varnus, for our audience and prospective buyers alike.

Governor Alyse Ti'Varnus of Bakura said:
The Newt is a proven and versatile staple of the Bakuran Defense Fleet. It has become the workhorse for protecting Bakura's sovereign space, ensuring the safety of our commercial trade traffic. But also, due to its versatile design, the Newt has been instrumental in attending to domestic issues, particularly within its deployment as fire-fighting appliances, and as law-enforcement interceptors.

As part of our endeavors to grow and expand relationships with our neighboring systems, we are bringing the Newt to market as a competitive alternative to the market leaders, so that less economical territories are empowered to provide the necessary safeguarding and security for their denizens.

Supplementary to this announcement, Bakuran Shipyards will soon be bringing its flagship yacht to market, The Salis D'aar—which is the current pinnacle of Bakuran engineering and design—with the more discerning clientele in mind.
