Raxus Prime. A desolate planet filled with the refuse of countless planets, moons and space stations. It was not a particularly nice place to be unless you happened to be a scavenger or someone who just really liked garbage. Drow Venn was none of these things but he found himself here on the planet regardless.

He was on a mission to establish an official security force for the Jedi Temple on Yavin. Whether it was to protect against invading Sith, pirates, or overdue library books, the need for such a force was vast and Drow was working on pulling together the proper manpower for such an organization. However, said manpower would require additional support should the worst happen and an attacking force invaded Yavin. Fortuntaely, a scavenger that owed the Jedi a few favors had alerted him to a solution to this problem.

The scavenger had found an old AT-DT that actually looked to be in decent condition. How such a fine piece of military hardware had ended up here was anyone's guess but Drow certainly wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to have one at the Jedi Order's disposal. Should the Sith come knocking, such a walker would certainly make them reconsider a few things. Turning to his Jedi companions who had agreed to help him search, Drow stood atop the trash pile that marked the beginning of the sector where the scavenger said he'd spotted the walker.

"Right. Here's where we're supposed to be looking for the walker. I say we stick together and search - this planet can be dangerous. With such a find, I wouldn't put it past some scavengers or exiles to try and take a shot at us. There's a very real chance we may have to talk or fight our way out of here with this walker on our transport. Is that good with everyone?" Drow asked his allies.

Traveling offworld had always been a source of amazement and excitement for young Maiko. The mission to Raxus Prime was the third time he'd been exposed to space travel and while the planet was desolate at best, the Padawan still gazed upon it with wide-eyed wonder the moment it came into view.

Master Voran was away for a mission, and Maiko took it upon himself at first to stay put in the Temple to train with her teachings in mind. But the moment he'd heard of a mission detailing the security protection needed to better defend the Order should another attack come – the tragedy that was Ajan Kloss still weighed on him – Maiko had been quick to offer his aid. Now he walked beside his fellow Padawans, Crix Aran (a student of Master Grayza, he'd heard) and Drastus Drahr (one of Master Sati's), with Jedi Knights Drow Venn and Nara Allam on the lead.

He listened carefully and attentively to Knight– Master? – Venn's instructions, nodding dutifully in response. Maiko understood the potential threats and dangers they might have to face in this mission, and thus had deemed it best to stick with the plan no matter how his feet itched to wander around in search of some other great find a glorified junkyard of a planet could offer.

I hope Master Voran won't be too disappointed that I left without her permission, thought the young Padawan, sending a silent apology to his Master as he looked up to the sky.

Drast would whistle as he looked around, not because it was nice, the place was an absolute dump. And despite one of the leads being someone he wasn't fond of (for no particular reason), the mission still had its ups. He'd descend the ramp as he cleaned his shades and pulled them on, surveying the area. Well this was it, he was on a world where he could officially say the most beautiful sight was Nara, granted he'd think that anywhere. He had met the Knight once and was absolutely smitten. Hell, if not just for her, the only other reason he was here was his best friend Crix.

Dressed in his usual get up, he'd roll the sleeves up and button the cuffs at the forearms. "10-4 Commander Venn." Those hands would then slide down the vest to pull it out a bit before re-buttoning. "If by my life or my death can protect any of you, I will. You have my sword." he said, tapping the vibrosword clipped to his back with a harness. "So what do you figure we'll run into once it gets loud?"

That's when he noticed him for the first time. The kid. His gaze shifted to the boy and the shades slid down a bit. "Hey bud, who are you?"

Poking around a trash-heap of a world with a bunch of padawans wasn't exactly Nara's idea of a good time. However, Drow had said something about restoring an old AT-DT and that sounded more like her style of things. It'd been weeks since she'd been buried in circuitry and robotics. Frankly, she was starting to mix the smell of sparking electronics and the heat from poorly-threaded wiring.

"If scavengers have got to it, we better get there quick. The more boards they run away with, the less likely we'll be to fix it up," Nara said, peering across the sector with her binoculars. She wore a long coat, gleaming and waterproof. She'd been on Raxus Prime before and she'd learned to dress practically. Preferably in things that you didn't need to wear again. Her droid perched on top of her shoulder, peering out too.

"If we can reach it, 3-B will interface and run the schematics, see what's missing. I've loaded him with a rudimentary walker program as well, so if it works properly it should follow us," Nara said, still looking. "But yeah, good plan. I'm with you," she said, smiling at Drow as she put her binoculars away. Hanging off her shoulder, the strap beneath her droid's feet, was a satchel bag filled with robotic repair tools she'd taken from her ship.

"I'd say keep together, don't venture too far out. And don't step in any puddles," she warned the others, gaze flicking from padawan to padawan to padawan. Including that one with the shades that kept looking her way a lot. She frowned at him a little more before looking back to Drow.

Raxus Prime was… a dump.

Like it was a terrible place but it was, quite literally, a dump as well. A dumping ground for planets across the sector and beyond; the place where scrap went to die or whatever. If he was still just working on his ship he would have loved the place honestly. There were literally miles of useful and semi-useful scrap just sitting around with no legal owners to worry about.

But he was here as a Jedi so he wasn’t bothering with that, instead focusing on a mission instead so he pulled his robes on tight, raised his hood and pulled a scarf up to cover his mouth and nose. It wasn’t cold but it was at least a little bit of help against the smell.

He wasn’t really about to fight someone to the death over scrap but he came prepared, armed with a vibrosword and his mother’s rifle. The process of creating a lightsaber was coming along nicely but it felt hollow at the moment so he hadn’t finished one yet. He patted Drastus on the back slightly as he questioned who the other Padawan was.

“Nicely, Drast or else you’ll scare them away.”
He joked, turning to the Padawan he hadn’t met, “Drastus is just enthusiastic about meeting new people. I’m Crix.”

He didn’t say anything about being ready and willing to fight someone but he nodded to the Knight who had asked. Crix wasn’t about to start a fight but he was damned sure he would be part of ending one if they brought it on themselves. He grinned a little at Nara, giving her a nod when she made a joke about stepping in puddles.

It was a joke right?

"Yes definitely don't step in any puddles." Drow hastily agreed when Nara brought up that particularly helpful nugget of information. "I once was fighting here with an Arconan who stepped in a puddle here. Poor bastard's probably still cooking here."

He was glad to see that the Padawans were all here to help and were getting along. He knew firsthand that Crix had dealt with a lot - all the survivors on Sullust had and it was good to see him in a more natural environment...even if those algae robes Drow had given him were now nowhere in sight.

"Could be anything. There's a lot of strange things and beings on this world" Drow answered Drastus' question as he moved closer to Nara to begin walking the surface of the planet, eyes peeled for any sign of the walker.

"How's the clinic coming?" Drow asked Nara to make conversation, remembering when he and her had met on Nar Shaddaa to discuss the future of her endeavor.

As the Jedi searched, three things stuck out. The first was what appeared to be a humanoid figure pacing up and down on a trash heap about a hundred meters to the east of them. The second was a giant metal foot poking out of a pile a few meters to the west of them. Due to it being covered by muck and filth, it was hard to say but it very well could have been the leg of an AT-DT walker. Lastly, about thirty meters north of them, a poor loadlifter droid was repeatedly banging its head into a discarded husk of an escpae pod. Looking at all of this unfolding with a bemused expression, Drow turned to his team.

"Keep your voices down - most folk here aren't friendly. I can go investigate that figure up to the east, see if they've spotted the walker. If any of you want to come with me or check out the foot or the droid, it's up to you." Drow whispered.

Maiko might have been an introvert at heart, but that didn't mean that he would always want to keep to himself. It was why he was here, right? Traveling to a planet's equivalent of a trash site, with his fellow Padawan and Jedi, in search of some tech – or mech? – that could potentially assist future defenders on the Jedi Temple at Yavin-4.

Maiko was not really... a tech guy. Anything with wires and electricity was tech to him.

...but that's what tech usually is, right?

A bright smile, as if the sun itself had decided to camp on his face, appeared on Maiko's face as he turned to his fellow students. He opted with forgoing the usual bow-and-greet some Jedi seemed to favor and instead settled with giving the two his name.

The small community school back in Sorgan had taught him about class hierachies, and he wouldn't put it past Drastus and Crix to be included in the "cool kids" section. "Cool", in Maiko's books, was, well, "cool but nice and would give you a helping hand".

"I'm Maiko," he introduced himself, hands clutching the sling of his satchel – devoid, for now, of anything important, maybe except for two rolls of bandages, two bacta sprays, and a commlink. "Nice to meet you both!"

At Knight Allam's warning – punctuated by Knight Drow's words – Maiko's attention would shift to them, the grip on his satchel turning sheepish. Unconsciously, he took a step back until he was practically standing between Drastus and Crix. A little too close to their personal spaces, but Maiko didn't seem to notice. He tamped down his feelings of apprehension and let his curiosity bleed into the Force, equally curious eyes taking in the sights as the two Knights led the group to their destination.

The young Padawan felt the humanoid figure before he could see it, squinting his eyes to get a proper view. He expected hostility from anyone else they might come across with – places like this dump usually employed the "first come, first serve" adage. The droid unnerved Maiko with it's constant head... banging?

Thunk, thunk, thunk...

"This planet is so weird," he muttered, one of his hands trailing on the training staff slung to his back.

Weird planet, weird people... at least he was with allies, friends. And that he didn't come too unprepared.

Drast had that award winning grin as Crix pat his back "Yeah, guess so. Can't just drop a ladder on this problem, yeah?" he asked with a quiet laugh. "Oh yeah, Squirt. I'm all about the excitement." Drast would add as he slid those shades up. He didn't catch Nara's frown, just that she noticed him.

As Maiko stepped back, Drast set a hand on his upper back. "Don't worry, Sugar. Crix and I got ya." his gaze would shift up to Venn and Nara as well as the potential walker leg and single roaming psycho that lay ahead. "I'll come with ya, Venn. Rather some crazed junkyard slitter goes after me than Crix or Sugar."

Nara moved with them as they kept searching, gingerly testing the ground with each step she took. If she didn't, she'd end up slipping in some trash or, worse, disappearing into some toxic hole and never returning.

"It's coming along okay, thanks,"
Nara replied to Drow, who'd helped her out when she was first establishing it on Nar Shaddaa. "Busy, y'know. Lot less busy than when the plague hit, that was a nightmare. Just always needing more stuff, y'know. I'm trying to get my hands on a scanner for serious cases, but they cost more credits than I can afford," she shared, huffing slightly. There might be the gutted remnants of one buried beneath their feet right now... but Nara wasn't digging in trash for it. Not again.

When they came to a stop, Nara listened in to Drow's suggestion. "I'll check out the foot then. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out if it's what we want. Getting it out of there though..." she whispered, looking back over to it. "Anyone else coming?" she asked, before carefully stepped her way across the ground again. Slipping slightly on the slope, the soft sound of juicy, ancient trash and rusted, crumbling metal echoing with each movement.

Nara made her way over to the foot, face screwing up as she realised the state the metal was in. "Ewww..." she muttered, looking at the filth that was completely crusted onto the metal.

I guess I can always get a padawan to clean it for me, she wondered quietly as she looked for any kind of identifying mark. Or a latch for an access port. There must be something on the old thing that'd let people access it. Otherwise... she might have to go digging through the trash.

"Anyone bring a shovel?"
she called out.

Puddles? Puddles were dangerous now?

Crix eyed a nearby puddle and he could see the way it bubbled, steamed and yet also seemed to have stripped the paint off of a nearby metal girder that had been partially submerged into it. He nodded without a second thought because, yeah, puddles looked like they were pretty dangerous now and that was something to avoid like the plague.

“No more ladder drops.”
He agreed with Drastus without looking away from the puddle for a moment before nodding to the other Padawan, “Nice to meet you – let’s make sure we don’t get dissolved.”

That would suck.

Looking around, Crix would grin at seeing both the leg and the droid. The leg might be more interesting to their actual mission but the droid? Well Crix did like to tinker with things and the helpless little droid looked like it needed a little bit of surgery so who was he to say no, eh? It was like the Force was making it a thing just for him.

“Dibs on the broken droid!”
he called out as he grabbed his multi-tool off his belt and made his way toward it with a grin, “I’m gonna name him scruffy!”

The droid that Crix (@Nefieslab) had named Scruffy did not react to the Padawan coming near him. Instead, he just preoccupied himself with banging his head into the wall. The loadlifter was around 3 meters tall and didn't appear to be of any specific model - Crix could reasonably surmise that it was probably a knockoff of one of the more popular brands out there.

As Nara (@Charndley ) dug around the scrap heap surrounding the foot, she'd find that the foot was indeed connected to the walker. Even better, the junk pile wasn't quite large enough to cover all of it and if she went to the other side of the pile, she'd be able to see the top of the canopy sticking out of the pile. The walker was lying horizontally on the ground, which might prove problematic in actually getting the thing upright. But this was certainly the AT-DT they were looking for. Any further evidence of the walker's capabilities would have to be gained by either crawling inside of it or uncovering the junk that surrounded it. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be anything sticking out of the junk piles that would make the latter task easier although with Raxus Prime, one never could tell what they might find...

The figure that Maiko (@Forsythe Crowholde ) saw, upon closer inspection looked to be a Junker. Made up of cybernetic parts, it was covered in rags. It didn't appear to notice the party but that didn't seem to matter because the junk pile to the left of the Junker suddenly exploded in a cacopany of junk hitting the ground. A makeshift crane had burst through the pile and began heading straight towards Nara. It was still around a hundred meters away but it was closing that distance fast. The Junker on top of the pile jumped atop the crane to join the other four Junkers that were piloting it.

"Oh blast, Junkers! Mean lot. What's the play here, people?" Drow asked, withdrawing his lightsaber but not igniting it just yet.

It was time to climb his newest mountain – Scruffy the droid.

Crix was certain that the others were having more important parts of the mission but he didn’t much care because he really wanted the droid. It wasn’t in a possessive way so much as it was out of a child-like adoration for having cool droids doing cool things. Taking a deep breath, Crix marshaled what he could of the Force before taking a running leap.

Rather than trying to access the droid’s controls from the bottom – which seldom worked in his experience – Crix launched himself to the top of the droid. Grabbing hold, he made sure he was fairly secure before flipping his multi-tool out and starting work, pulling open an access panel.

“Alright Scruffy… time to see what’s making you go a little bit loopy…”

Humming as he looked over the wiring, he tutted a little bit to himself. Whoever had wired Scruffy had done such a terrible job that Crix was honestly surprised that the droid even managed to keep it’s balance. Considering some of the systems that were just flat out not supposed to work that way, Crix started to repair them.

Firstly though he cut the power to the droid’s arms because he really didn’t want Scruffy to try and hit him off it’s head out of some misguided attempt to protect itself. Misguided because Crix was what was going to save Scruffy!

“I’m good here with Scruffy!”
he called out to his fellow Jedi, “If we get him working right, he’ll be a lot of help.”

Maiko tilted his head to the side like a confused tooka. Sugar? That was what Mum used to call him when he was little. Hearing it from a huge guy close to his age was kinda... odd.

He felt Drastus' hand in his upper back, reminiscent of one of his older siblings' touch, and the young Padawan visibly relaxed at the reassurance. He nodded at the other Padawan gratefully before the latter and Crix began to head off.

"Be careful!" he reminded his fellow students, with Drastus going with Knight Venn and Crix taking off on a running leap for the weird headbanging droid. Left behind by his peers, Maiko chose to toddle along curiously after Knight Allam as she made her way to the foot of what he assumed was the AT-DT they were looking for.

He meandered along carefully, cognizant of every step he took. Maiko prodded one foot over the trash heap he would step on to before moving forward. At the rate he was going, it would be prerry slow moving so he decided to follow after the female Knight's steps. His gaze would flick from his steps to the humanoid figure he'd spotted earlier. At her question, Maiko's brows furrowed with worry.

"I didn't, I'm sorry," he told her. The Padawan looked around in search for something that could be of use when he spotted a discarded shovel lying a few steps to his right. Huh, how convenient. He smiled. "I found one!"

Before he could make his way over to the much needed tool, an explosion sounded ahead of them. Maiko turned to look at the source, eyes growing wide at the sight of a makeshift crane bursting through a pile of junk and headed straight for–

"Master Allam!"

Shovel forgotten, Maiko would cross the distance between the two of them. Should he be met with no resistance would take the Knight's hand to pull her out of the crane's path. And if the Knight would move out of the way on her own, Maiko would immediately follow after her to safety.

Shades now off and tucked away, Drast was in hot pursuit of the crane, a tricky task since he was stuck leaping over puddles. He couldn't remember what it was about them, just to avoid them. As he crested his current junk pile he saw the targets whether they were intentional or not: Nara and Sugar.

He leapt off the pile with probably an unnecessary flip and landed with his feet firmly planted before dashing off again. Thankfully, he could feel the force flowing through him, helping him move faster. That said, at his current speed, he'd likely just barely get there. Believe in yourself, Drastus. Call out to it.

He would plant both feet and heed his old Masters words. "Gonna suck if I break my first promise to Sugar Cube." He mused and he opened himself to the Force and urged it to do his will. Was it impressive? Not likely. The crane was heavier than he expected but he had just enough to turn it two degrees away. The crane shifted and missed both Nara and Maiko by a foot or more between the efforts of both Padawans. It carried through the trash piles before coming to a stop as it collided with something just as heavy as the crane itself.

Nara circled the walker as she considered how to get it out of there... and the state of the electronics within. Who knew how long it'd been buried under there. A decade? A century? Rotting in all that filth. She'd be surprised if they could even get it to take a current, never mind get it to move without some serious work.

Why does everything we use have to be salvaged from trash planets? At least we got some padawans here to scrub it clean for us.

Sighing to herself, Nara started the process of digging it out. Not by hand, obviously. One good thing about being a Jedi Knight, you could use the Force for the mundane crap. In the literal sense, in this case. Focusing for a second, she lifted her hand towards a jagged, rusting lump of metal and raised it, wincing as it scratched and screeched against the metal of the walker.

"Sorry!" she called out as she pushed it away carefully. There. It was a little bit clearer now. More than enough to try and get in the canopy at the top. She thought she saw the flash of controls when...

"Master Allam!"

Nara turned and saw the crane moving quickly towards her. After a split second, she drew on the Force around her, guiding it to her legs. It felt like time slowed to a crawl as it rolled towards her. Nara leapt from the ground, jumping a fair distance out of the path of the crane. She landed just on the huge lump of metal she'd moved, wobbling slightly as she caught her balance.

Nara pulled her blaster into her hand and aimed it towards the stopped crane. The second that one of them showed their creepy little faces, she'd fire.

"They might be dazed but they're not out, not yet!"
she called to the others, watching carefully.

If Crix (@Nefieslab ) thought Scruffy would react to a strange being jumping on its head and cutting off power to its arms, he was wrong. He continued to just bang its head against the scrap heap. Whatever had happened to this droid, it would probably need a full reboot at the very least to get it back to functioning properly again.

Thanks to Maiko's and Drastus' actions and warning (@Rhogar @Forsythe Crowholde ), Nara was saved from the embarassing and painful experience of being squished underneath the treads of a Raxus Prime crane. And what a crane it was. It looked like it had been cobbled together from about three different models; all of the parts welded together in a way that just screamed that these Junkers emphasized function over form. Speaking of the Junkers, as Nara (@Charndley ) readied her blaster at them, Drow stepped in front of her, blocking her shot. He didn't want to call out a fellow Knight in front of Padawans but he also wanted to avoid bloodshed if possible. And after all, they were were technically trespassing on their turf.

However, Drow still kept his saber out and ignited, which ended up being prudent as one of them immediately popped out and fired a blaster pistol at the Ishi Tib, forcing him to deflect them harmlessly into the ground. He hoped such a show of force would scare off the others but it didn't seem to be working. One of them stood on top of the crane and aimed a shot with a cycler rifle at Nara while the other three, armed with pikes and broken pipes began swarming towards Drastus, screaming angrily.

Knight Allam moved before he could reach her and as she leapt away from the crane's path Maiko followed suit, tapping into the Force and working with it to help augment his speed. Thanks to Drastus' actions as well, the younger Padawan didn't have to leap too far and instead landed a few feet away from his original position.

Eyes wide in surprise, Maiko gaped openly at the metallic behemoth before them. Drawing his training staff, he took a running leap towards Drastus before the other three Junkers could fully swarm him. Now standing behind his fellow Padawan, Maiko took a defensive stance, staff gripped firmly in both hands. He actively avoided conflict – physical or otherwise – whenever he could but the young Padawan wouldn't hesitate in jumping to his friend's aid.

At least the three Junkers that now surrounded them weren't carrying blasters. Maiko didn't want to hurt them, but he wouldn't let them hurt Drastus. He couldn't be passive if he was to watch his fellow Padawan's back, and the only way to avoid prolonging this encounter was to take the first strike.

He could feel their anger through the Force, and Maiko knew then and there that negotiation was practically out of the picture. More so when a Junker shot Knight Venn with a blaster pistol.

Remembering Master Voran's teachings, Maiko drew on the Force around him and worked with it in augmenting his arms' strength. With a determined shout, he would step forward and thrust his staff towards one of the Junkers in a poke strike. The butt end of the staff would meet the Junker's torso. The strength behind the attack would be enough to knock out the Junker, the force of the blow hopefully sending them stumbling down the trash heap.

Well Scruffy was being delightful it had to be said - he hadn't tried attacking him at all and now Crix had a better idea of what was actually wrong with him. Tutting a little bit, he ignored the way his perch shifted every time the droid head-butted the scrap in front of them. Hopefully the droid wouldn't be too put out about it but Crix was busy.

Having put away his multi-tool, he instead connected his datapad directly to Scruffy so that he could interface with his controls, humming slightly as he keyed up a system reboot. Before he did so however he keyed in a new set of parameters to make sure that he recognized Crix as someone who had the authority to command him.

No need to have Scruffy scruffed up trying to take him down.

"Alright Scruffy - here we go!"

He activated the full system reboot for the droid and tapped at the com-link he had in his ear to contact the rest of the team. From his vantage point he could clearly see the rest of the team having a little fight with some scrappers.

"Guys I've got a big ol' droid buddy here who'll be ready to assist in a minute. What do we need? Support against the scrap people or help moving the scrap off our walker?"

Drast smirked at the scrappers "Three on one and you're the ones that are outnumbered, ya hate to see it." As they rushed him, he noted the arrival of young Sugar Cube at his side, and even the resounding crack of staff on hard head. He did not want to be that scrapper by any means.

As the youngest of the party advanced, so would Drast, blade deflecting the first pipe before getting caught in the second pipe, a mere centimeter from cutting all the way through. Based on the mans face, he didn't expect the swing to go through and nearly decapitate him either. Using the man's shock, Drast would grab his shoulder with his free hand and shove him into the path of the first assailants pipe, now aimed for the young Maiko. The pipe to the back of the head would all but drop the man, almost nearly atop of the other Padawan.

That's when Drast would dart forward and leap, driving his boot into the skull of the first assailant. It may not have been enough to knock him out, but it sure sent him rolling down the scrap pile, his face almost landing in the puddle. Moving quickly, Drast would drive his knee into the mans upper back and shove his head to within inches of the puddle. "Call off your guys or I give you a makeover!" Would he have? Possibly. Hopefully the guy wouldn't push him to find out.

Nara pulled her face as Drow moved in front of her shot. Instead, she gave him a nasty look as she pointed it away. These things nearly run me off the ground and you expect me to be all 'oh sorry, no harm done!' As she expected, they didn't seem to be friendly and attacked. Unfortunately, she didn't get much time to be smug about it, as one aimed a rifle and shot at her.

Nara quickly moved out of the way, but just slow enough to get a blast scorch over her back, singeing her coat. She gasped in pain as she slipped from the pile of metal she stood on, tumbling to the ground as the other Junkers attacked. She heard the fighting and blasts as she pulled herself up and wiped herself down, wincing as he felt the lash of blaster burn on her back throb painfully.

"Padawan, move your ass back here with that droid and use. Your. Instincts!" she yelled over the com-link to Crix as she grabbed her blaster again. Stepping out from behind the metal, she aimed the blaster at the nearest Junker, right at it's head. Or what she assumed was his head, anyway.

"You heard him," she said, looking over at Drastus, "Call off your men now and leave, before this starts getting a lot more messy." Her voice was firm and clear, with more than a little venom behind it.
