Elidan felt terribly uncomfortable for being in there. It wasn’t that the mansion of a super rich politician of Drearia was bad. It had gardens, pools, libraries and a ton of other stuff that the half-Annfyn never dreamed of seeing in his entire life. And everything was huge. He was pretty sure that the entire Jedi Temple of Sernpidal could fit inside this place.

The reason for him being uncomfortable came from the fact that he was at a party. Elidan really wasn’t a fan of this type of social event, even less one full of people that he didn’t know. The worst part was that they were staring at him as if he was some exotic thing. And the owner of the mansion and host of the party, Duke Alecto, was happily encouraging this situation.

By this point he was pretty sure that the Duke had only wanted the Jedi here because he wanted to show everyone how close he was with the Order, which was true. The man was their greatest benefactor at the moment. Whoever was giving the mission these days thought that it would be a great idea to satisfy him with two Jedi in this party, because it was an opportunity for them to find new allies among the nobility.

Because the Order could really use some new donations.

Unfortunately, Elidan had no success in winning new benefactors. He had selective mutism and was incapable of uttering one word to the other guests. The Knight only wanted to go away. Now he was avoiding the Duke and everyone else, while nursing a glass of wine in a corner of the ballroom.

He wondered if his partner was being luckier.

Kaedan had recently become a Jedi Knight. He had done a few missions after his promotion but he still felt pretty green. It was quite nice to have the liberty of a knight. He was free to explore the galaxy, especially with the Jedi Order in their current situation. Between the split of traditional Jedi and the crusaders, and the Order's lack of leadership, there was a level of chaos within the Jedi. That inspired the young knight to put more into his duty while broadening his horizons of the galaxy. If he were to be promoted to a Jedi Master then he had a lot of work to put in.

Speaking about duty, Kaedan was joining a fellow Jedi Knight on a mission to defend a dignitary at some event. He wasn't too fond of going to some events especially since he didn't have the experiences of regular event goers. Even so, he was always willing to learn about events and what was expected of him. Before the event, he made sure to take a look around Duke Alecto's mansion to get a good idea of where was what. He had even gotten lost in there but was lucky enough to find his way back to the foyer.

When the party commence, Kaedan made sure to look confident. That would leave a lasting impression and could possibly attract new allies and benefactors. Even though he would much rather be getting his hands dirty while working on his ship, he was going to put his best on for the Duke of Drearia. He smiled and greeted several members as they walked up to him. Many were quite impressed with Alecto and his connection. That said, that was as far as it went before they went off on their own accomplishments. These individuals exhibited a notable lack of humility, unlike the modest Jedi.

As the elite members of the planet enjoy their gathering, Kaedan found the bar. Since he abstained from alcoholic beverages, he took it upon himself to prepare a refreshing soda for his enjoyment.

From his corner, Elidan saw his partner moving around among the guests with enviable confidence. Knight Kaedan seemed to be young, far younger than the half-Annfyn thought that was possible for a Knight to be. Perhaps it was what made him fare too well in a party. Although the auburn-haired man wasn’t exactly old. He was only 25 years old.

Perhaps he had the soul of an old man.

The half-Annfyn was happy in letting the younger Knight do the talking with those rich people, while he only watched. He didn’t have much success in conversations with them anyway. As soon as the impact of seeing him as a novelty passed, they lost interest because there wasn’t any patience on their part to deal with his sign language.

It seemed that Kaedan finally got tired of them, because he was now going to the bar alone. A flash behind Elidan attracted his attention. He turned around, seeing through a large window that a storm was now falling. It seemed that it would be one of the strong ones, with the rain increasing every second.

Suddenly, the lights went out. There were loud gasps and some screams. Elidan immediately went on alert. He started to walk toward the bar, seeking to stay near Kaedan. The Force was screaming that something was going to happen.

When the light finally came back, hell broke loose.

There was a body in the ballroom.

Kaedan took a sip of his beverage and let out a sigh of enjoyment. It was nice to sometimes sit down and enjoy the fine things in life. With the life the Jedi had, he didn't get to do that enough. He'd make sure to take him time with this since it was a fleeting experience.

Suddenly, the lights shut off.
What now? Can't a Jedi have a moment of rest? Guess not. He instinctively grabbed his lightsaber but before he could activate it, the lights were back on. Now they were left with many questions and a dead socialite in the ballroom. Kaedan walked over to the body slowly. It was easier to do so as people were panicking and running all around. He knelt down and sighed. Who would do such a thing and with Jedi present too. He tried to use the force to detect anyone who had a bad aura about them but came up with nothing. "Elidan, do you happen to know Psychometry?" It was worth a shot to ask such a question. This was the second time that psychometry would have been useful that he had to think about. That said, he knew just what he had to do after they solved this murder mystery.

He stood up and used the force to seal all the exits.
"Until we find out more, no one is allowed to leave. I do apologize for the inconvenience of this but this is the only way to ensure that the killer doesn't escape."

People were already gathering around the corpse, with a morbid curiosity. Some of them recognized the person, a young socialite that had frequented such parties in the past. Others didn’t even know who she was, but still wanted to catch a glimpse of the dead body.

Elidan had to open passage, pushing through the people. When he arrived near the body, the half-Annfyn saw that the woman was lying in the middle of a pool of blood. There was no weapon nearby it, thus he concluded that the assassin had carried it away. This would only make the investigation more difficult.

No. I never trained this ability.” Elidan signed to Kaedan, before kneeling next to the woman and checking her pulse. Completely dead, there was nothing that he could do to help. He pulled out his EZPhone and called the local police. Even if the Jedi could take care of the case, the local authorities needed to be warned.

Unfortunately, the storm got worse and whoever had attended his call had said that they weren't going to be able to arrive any time soon due to the roads being flooded.

After Kaedan said that no one should leave the building, the guests started to complain. It was at this moment that Duke Alecto approached the two Jedi. “My friends, we need to have patience. I have faith that these two Jedi will solve this crime and we’ll be going home soon.” he said to the crowd, who seemed to calm down.

It seems that this case is at our hands. Maybe we should take all those people to another room and start to investigate who could have killed her. Some interviews will also help.” Elidan signed to Kaedan, while he watched the Duke talk with the crowd. This was going to be a long night.

As Kaedan asked his fellow knight about psychometry, Elidan used sign language to communicate with him, telling him that it was not a technique in his skill set. Kaedan nodded as he stood up. Now that Elidan was inspecting the body, Kaedan sealed all the exits with the force, notifying the patrons that no one could leave until the investigation was done.

As the guests start complaining, the duke chipped in, letting the guests know he had faith in the Jedi. Well, that was comforting to know that he, as the host, wasn’t freaking out. The last thing anyone would want is a dead person on their doorstep or in this case, in the midst of their home and in the middle of a party.

With the crowd calm, Kaedan glanced across the area, trying to see anyone who may look suspicious. Seeing no one who stood out, he turned his head back to the recently deceased.
That sucks. She probably just came to have a good time and now look at her; life truly is precious.

When Elidan signed his thoughts to Kaedan, the younger knight nodded. “That is a good idea however can we really interview all of these people? There are so many of them.” That also doesn’t account for the people who also wouldn’t want to tell the truth. With such a big crowd, maybe if they selected people at random, they may get the person who is guilty to reveal themselves another way.

Suddenly, Kaedan jolted as if he thought of something. He knelt down again and turned the woman’s body over slightly, using the force, of course. The last thing he would need is his fingerprints on her. Now lying on her back, Kaedan looked for a wound, finding a few stab wounds. Four in the gut and one in the chest. There was blood which meant there was a murder weapon around with blood on it. That could narrow down their search.

“Looks like we got a small clue. Think we can use this to find our culprit?” He whispered to Elidan.

Kaedan had a good point. There were a lot of people at this party and only two Jedi. Interviewing all of them would take the entire night, giving time for the assassin to escape and even throw the weapon that they used away. They would need to find another way of doing that investigation.

We would need to at least discover who knew her in this part. They would be our first suspects.” he explained, before walking toward the Duke. If there was someone in this entire place that could have this information, it was him. After all, he had invited all these people. Elidan was also sure that he would be interested in helping the investigation, since it would mean that his house wasn’t going to be considered a crime scene anymore.

Indeed, Duke Alecto was very eager to help him. The man even gave a list of people that the woman knew. The noble also gave him the name of the woman, Lucy Olina. This information would be helpful to solve that mystery.

When he returned to where the body was, Elidan saw Kaedan turn her around with the Force. Clever, this way he would avoid contaminating the scene. “Maybe, we would still need to find the weapon.” Elidan signed, before showing the datapad that the Duke gave to him. “I have the name of the people that knew her, we should interview them.

After Kaedan brought up the point that they couldn't interview so many people, Elidan had a good idea on where they could start first. Since he was going to the Duke to get information on who would know the deceased, Kaedan used the force to turn her around and look at the wounds she had. This attack seemed targeted and he thought about why someone would do such a thing. He asked Elidan about using the evidence of her being stabbed multiple times and the murder weapon having blood on it as a way they could find the culprit. He nodded to the signed response her was given.

Kaedan took the datapad from his partner and looked it over.
Alright, let's see here. Lucy, who here wanted you dead? Did you have any enemies or any rivals? Kaedan glanced over the names, sighing at the length of the list. Well, it wouldn't hurt to isolate the group of people on the list to see if any of them had blood on their clothes and/or hands, or was carrying around the murder weapon. "I think one of us needs to put these people all in a room and check for the murder weapon or blood. The reason I'm suggesting one of us, the other can keep watch of everyone else out here so that the killer doesn't slip out of sight if they're not someone on this list. What do you think, Master Elidan?"

Kaedan stood up and looked in the crowd for the people who were on the datapad. Luckily, the names had images attached to them so they weren't blind in pursuing those who were the first to be suspected. "After putting them all in one room to see if they have blood on them or the murder weapon, then they could be questioned one by one to see what their relationship was with Lucy and also each others. They may reveal more than they think." He saw all the people on the list in the crowd. Now it was time to get them isolated in a room.
