Nar Shaddaa - Corellian District - Nightfall
0200 Local Time

BU3rhnj.png

The smell of tobacco smoke lingered heavily around the bar Orys and his companions were sitting at. The three had been enjoying themselves for the last couple of hours, Orys ordering several rounds of drinks. The bar was sparsely populated, most other guests being occupied by the stage girls and "computer repair shop". Orys donned his usual armor and equipment since this place didn't exactly attract model citizens from the surrounding areas nor did he care to try his luck. Nar Shaddaa was no place to die, even for a degenerate like himself.

The hum of background music began to fill his hears as whoever operated it turned it from barely noticeable, to quite noticeable. A refurbished server droid approached him from behind the bar and began to remove the empty bottles that stood before him. "Another?" they asked, obviously intent on making even more credits off of him. It really was an enticing offer, however he'd already had one too many drinks and his bankroll was getting shorter and shorter the longer he stayed. "No thank you." he replied, waving the droid off. The bottles clanked together as the droid continued to clean up after him, throwing the empty bottles into a nearby trashcan. Suddenly his datapad released an audible buzz notifying him of an incoming message. Orys removed it from its case and begins to read, mouthing out key words as he processes them in his head.

"Hey friend, I got a job for ya. Call me ASAP. The bosses need someone to disappear......NOW. Bring a friend or two...or three or four. Just call me."

Orys immediately knew who it was despite the anonymous message. Only a handful of people contact him about these kinds of things and only one is dumb enough to do it behind a screen. He looked to his two companions sitting beside him, using his hands to gesture them closer to him. He then flashed the datapad for a brief moment so that they could read the message before locking the device.

"You guys interested in any work?"

Jaçelle wasn't a big drinker, even in group settings like where she was now. It took too many drinks for the alcohol to give her that desirable buzz, and reaching that goal meant a good sum of credits. Lucky for her, she didn't have to buy every one of her drinks. The woman had also bought a few rounds for the group, but by the time Orys got the message, Jaçelle was sipping on a water.

"What sort of work?" inquired Jaçelle of Orys at the offer. While she wasn't one to refuse a job, she had other responsibilities. But while she waited for an answer, she quickly went over her schedule in her head. Zentripoli didn't have need of her for the time being, and she assumed she would be free for a while going forth. "I should be open, regardless."

Venues like Nightfall, Vara had come to accept, had become a staple in her social and gradually developing work life. She knew that the only way off this moon at this point was the syndicates, and people weren't looking for slicers anymore. Vara figured she was better off building associations and working with other criminal elements, and that's how she initially met the two individuals she was with tonght.

The evening started out as a social gathering, offers of drinks, maybe a little hooligan antics, but she didn't expect it to amount to anything. The young slicer accepted any free drink that her companions were offering, occasionally offering up a round for the table. It was getting near the end of the night, and Vara knew it. She could tell by the ache developing in her head, and her sensitivity to light, especially the holo-dancers being broadcast around the establishment.

Vara rubbed her eyes upon hearing the buzz of Orys' datapad. She opted to take a sip of water that was on the table infront of her. She forgot how it got there, probably the droid or one of her companions looking out for her. She heard Orys remark on some potential work and moved her hand away from her eyes, "Yeah, what kind of work?" At this point, if it paid good, she was willing to accept just about anything.

Orys paused a moment before responding. He had to ponder if he really wanted to even go through with this, but credits were short and he had the people, so he continued. "Not entirely sure yet but if I know one thing about this guy it's probably some kind of wet work". He procured a cigar from a duffel bag that was sitting beside him at the bar, trying to light it he realized he had no lighter. The server droid extended a metal arm across the bar, blue flame emitting from its rounded tip. Orys lit his cigar nodding to the droid and began puffing clouds of smoke.

"Look if you guys don't wanna get your hands dirty that's fine, I know we haven't known each other for that long. However, from what I've been told it comes from some Syndicate brass, and i'm positive credits are included as well as some recognition if we pull whatever it is off". Orys waited for a response still puffing his cigar. A few patrons started to get up and leave Nightfall as they got deeper into the night. Many working girls still remained, several had their eyes focused on the door desperate for a lonely man to walk through with a pocket full of cash.

So he didn't know exactly what they would be doing, but it was from the Syndicates. It couldn't hurt to take the job, supposed Jaçelle. After all, more jobs meant more credits she could send home to her family. The more credits she sent home, the longer she could go without visiting. She loved her family and it sounded terrible to think that, but she hated that dump of a place they still lived in. Maybe one day she could get them on the surface.

"I'm in." Whatever it was, she'd do her best. Depending on the payout, maybe she could put funds toward getting a personal ship. Jaçelle then added, "Just let me know what I will need to bring."

Vara grinned slightly as Orys elaborated. She gestured towards his datapad, "Sounds good to me. Find out from your guy what the job is and I'm in." She had a general idea of what kind of work it would be. And that kind of work is what got scoundrels like her out of the depths of Nar Shaddaa and into the greater galaxy. Plus, it was probably a few slicing jobs and then her companions handled the muscle, surely. It was a win-win.

Vara felt sobered up by the idea alone, if it was some big shot and they split credit, then this would help all of them advance in the syndicates, and as a result guaranteed better jobs. She took another sip of her water, eager to hear more about the job.

Hearing both women agree Orys grinned, a good night out after all. He quickly got up from his seat, grabbing his duffel bag and making his way to an even less populated part of the lounge area where he took a seat at a large couch, motioning for the women to follow him. Setting his duffel bag at his feet, he reached into his pocket and revealed a holo-pad communicator before placing it down on the table where he dialed in some numbers. The device let go a two tone beep for several seconds until the calls recipient answered, revealing an average sized man wearing a black mask who was sitting at a table. On the table were two handguns and a hefty sum of credits.

"Ah there you are friend, I figured it wouldn't be long until I heard from you". Orys leaned in closer to the communicator, lowering the volume as to not make their conversation too audible for any eavesdroppers or snitches. The man behind the hologram would look to Orys's companions if they followed him and nod with approval, using his hands to shuffle the credits around. "They'll do. Anyways, onto the job. The target is an elderly man named Lucius Quinn. He's a former syndicate affiliate who flipped and cant keep him damn mouth shut". The man paused for a second, sucking his teeth at the thought of a snitch. "I'm assuming you want the job since you called me so i'll send the exact details over to your datapad including a dossier with recent pictures and possible points of interest. The short and sweet version is he's got the information to put some important people behind bars so they want him handled, permanently. Something something about a weapons smuggling operation. He's believed to be in protective custody but where is unknown so you're gonna have to bust out the old magnifying glass and do some detective work".

Orys nodded, soaking the information up. It was a lot, and the name didn't ring any bells, and there was definitely some detective work due. However being so difficult likely meant the payout was larger and that's what they all needed. "And Orys? I was told to inform you to try to keep this as hush hush as possible. Not saying you cant whack any guards or nothin, but try to keep it out of sight of cameras and don't let anyone get away if they saw something. Syndicates wanna keep as much heat off as possible". With that the communicator went dark and the man vanished. Collecting his communicator he looked to his companions, quite intrigued.

"Thoughts?"

Jaçelle hesitated to stand until Orys was already a few meters away, but then quickly rose and followed after him in long strides. She ignored the stares of the remaining patrons and sat down at the end of the couch. With her head resting on one fist, she listened quietly as the hologram projection of a man went over the details of the job. Her eyes jumped back and forth between his moving mouth and the hefty sum of credits resting on his table. Jaçelle was completly convinced by then.

When Orys asked for their thoughts on the mission, Jaçelle responded by shaking her head. It was obvious already who would play what roles in the group; Vara was their slicer, and Orys and she would be the muscle if need be. The woman chuckled to herself briefly. Standing 6'3" and 6'6" respectively, Orys and her would make for an intimidating duo, she thought.

Vara followed closely behind the man, noticing that Jaçelle also followed behind her. She opted to stand at the end of the couch, still being visible for the hologram to pick her up for the man on the other end to see her. She listened closely, acknowledging that this work wasn't exactly for the feint of heart. The stack of credits indicated that the man meant business, even if she didn't know him or the target.

She chuckled and grinned at the two, arms still crossed. "Well," she spoke with a certainty that indicated she was committed to this plot, "Let's see what the dossier says. I can see if I have any contacts his last known location." She glanced at the two once more, acknowledging the size of the two and remarked jokingly afterwards, "If it's an old man, surely he's an easy target once we find him."

They were both in and both had useful skills that would aid in the hunt, not much else to ask for. Orys removed his datapad once again and began to download the encrypted data drop he had received. Placing it on the table so all three of them could read it, he began to quickly scan through the information, primarily focusing on key information such as his last known location and possible leads. He was last seen on Corellia repeatedly going in and out of a police station which is likely how they discovered he was a snitch to begin with.

"Not too much to go on in all reality. Might be harder than expected". As soon as the words had escaped his mouth another encrypted message appeared from the masked man. "One more thing killer. I paid off some dispatchers and found out there is soon to be retired sector ranger located near you on Nar Shaddaa. No clue where he's located but might be worth a shot. He might have more info. Good luck". And the plot thickens. A sector ranger vacationing on a notoriously crime ridden moon, how ironic.

He looked to the two women sitting beside him, obviously flustered about the lack of information. "At least we got somewhat of lead. I'll give you guys some time to collect yourselves, meet me out back when you're ready". Putting his helmet on he gathered his stuff and headed out back, stopping only by the bar for a second to grab what looked like another beer.

An ex-sector ranger. Jaçelle felt her face twist into a look of disgust. She had a vivid memory of a sector ranger arresting her father's friend for the distribution of death sticks. He had been a wonderful family friend; little her looked up to him. So now she had to find one, but she didn't really want to. Her wants weren't important though, so she'd just need to keep her dislike under wraps and find him.

Jaçelle made her way up to the bar counter and asked the bartender if this was the best bar in town, because clearly it was very nice. He responded in the affirmative, and suggested the existence of a bunch of hole-in-the-wall bars that the locals went to. The bartender scoffed and said that those bars were filled with the undesirable. Jaçelle thanked him for his service tonight, but inquired of the location of the most popular bar with the locals. "I'm looking for a local friend, who I lost contact with," she explained. The bartender gave her directions, and she followed Orys out the back.

Vara leaned in to take a closer look at the decrypted data. It wasn't exactly a lot of info to go off of. And Corellia? Vara had barely ever been off the moon, much less anywhere near the Core worlds. She knew that those parts of the galaxy actually maintained law and order unlike Nar Shaddaa.

She glanced at the additional message that came through. "Sector Ranger, huh?" Why would anyone of that organization want to come anywhere near this moon unless it was to arrest someone important or they were a crook themselves.

The slicer nodded to the two as they departed. She took a seat on the couch and pulled out her own datapad. Perhaps someone in the slicer community had contacts that knew more about this ranger or the target. She pinged a vague inquiry on a secured holonet forum dedicated for slicers, inquiring if any of them knew anything about this ranger. Vara sighed as she saw there was no response within the first few minutes and locked the datapad before sliding it back into her messenger bag before heading outside to meet with the others.

With the three of them gathered outside in a nearby alleyway, Orys began to think of where to start. The group briefly exchanged what little information they had with Vara having attempted to reach out to other slicers and Jacelle having got some information from the bartender. If his connects information was any good this sector ranger was likely crooked or extremely lost, the latter not so likely. "I think we'll start with a bar on the rougher side of town. If there's been any narcs around they'll likely have spotted them from a mile away". With that he started walking down the alley using his hand to signal them to follow. "You guys are probably tired but we have to get on this right away. No room for error and god forbid he gets off planet before we find him....we're screwed".
