And here we have our first extended look at Supergirl.

It doesn't look half bad to be honest. The other half looks pretty terrible and like they took inspiration from the SNL Black Widow sketch.

It doesn't help that they also chose really terrible music to set this to. But who knows, it'll probably be better once it's together.

Looks promising. Let's see if they don't make her into a ditzy blonde that turns into helpless rubber oh wait that already happened with Jimmy Olsen.

She could also be playing the role? Clark Kent is often depicted as a blubbery buffoon as a secret identity. Kara could be doing something similar.

It also wasn't helpless rubber. It was fangirl'ing - something I think we can all relate to.

Yes and No to that. He already knows what/who she is, and fangirling can only go so far before you enter an area of "What the hell are you doing?" and look like a fool.

Personally, I'm very leery of this and not too excited for it, but we'll see how it turns out.

This looks like it has definite "chick flick" elements to it, so I'm still very much on the fence about it. Not really an action fanatic, but I probably will not watch much of it if half of each episode is:

Nothing against that particular genre, really. Just isn't for me.

Thoughts?

PS: The Video is Loud.

I personally love the idea of a Supergirl focused show. My main hang up is that they are putting her into a universe where Superman is an existing thing and that kind of undermines what they are going for here. An all to common theme for Kara as Supergirl is her existing under Clark's shadow. That's something that I'm not terribly interested in and as Brandon said her being clumsy and dopey could be part of her civilian persona, but she exhibits those traits just as many times around people she personally knows or knows that she is a super powered being. So that leads me to believe that being an awkward woman is honestly part of her character at least early on.

The character who I DO like and wish they'd emulate is Power Girl. "But Johnny the only reason people like her is her big ti-" Not me. Power Girl has always been characterized as strong and confident. Someone who is sure of themselves as a person and as a hero (aside from obligatory "Why We Fight" story arcs that all heroes seem to suffer from time to time). Her civilian identity as Karen Star is basically Tony Stark with actual powers instead of powered armor. She runs a multi-billion dollar company and gets to show off how smart and savvy she is outside of her superhero persona. It's an anti-Clark Kent, which is both refreshing for the story they are seemingly trying to tell (Superman parallel but not Superman).

Also disappointed that this may not, as it stands, exist in the CW shows. CBS owns CW so a crossover would be easy to do, but currently they'd have to explain away Superman existing or possibly only do it in some sort of cross dimension time travel hokey thing with the new show CW has shown off called Legends of Tomorrow.

Overall, I hope the show does well. Simply because it sort of needs to in an effort to show that female lead shows can work.
