I'm not really into the mercenary or indie faction idea, I think a Rebel or Imperial commando squad has strong potential. I'd especially be into the whole "squad life" deal, beyond just doing missions, hence "The Unit" reference. It would be interesting to make it a sort of non-traditional, Delta style team that can do more than just straight kick in doors. Civvie up, grow a beard and hit the bars in Havana type of work.

Edit: don't listen to everything I say, I'm drinking.
I agree with this. It just loses some of its flair and appeal when you switch them to being mercs. I'm totally down for making an Imperial Commando.

On a related note, I could help facilitate a Rebel squad. I keep meaning to bump up one of my recurring NPCs into a full fledged PC anyway, and his existing background is as a Storm Commando who defected with the crew of BNs character, Konstantine. It could make for an interesting mix of backgrounds and ideals. Former Imps, mandos, Alliance SF, talented freelancers, etc.

We had a certain amount of success with my ship crew in the Corusca, so this could be easily turned into a spinoff of that by using the ship as living quarters and a launching/insertion platform . In fact, the Corusca just got a fancy new write up...

I have a hazardous environment stormtrooper that could join the squad, could be the specialist when it comes to operating in unusual/dangerous terrain (survival skills are his main thing), if you'd be interested.

I loved playing Republic Commando and the idea of an elite Delta Squad-type unit for the Imperium sounds pretty awesome to me.

Hmm I'm down for rebels. Thinking now my guy could be a former merc who's in for a pay day at first, but comes to really be a part of the team as our story goes.

Thanks. Going to discuss some things with Loco before I submit him on the Rebel Sign-ups. After that, we'll see what we can come up with and let everyone else know what's up.

So it would appear that @Grizz and I have been accepted as Rebels. Which means....yes....I'm sorry....we're going to be pursuing this idea within the Rebel faction. That said, for those of you who were interested in doing it on the Empire, I still encourage you to do that. The Imperial soldiers, from what I can tell, could use a bit of organizing and having a distinguished unit that stands out from the rest might be exactly what they need.

Be that as it may, we've decided to go with the Rebellion for a number of reasons both mentioned in this thread and discussed offline.

So going forward, we're really only looking for two or three individuals that are willing to maintain a degree of activity that would prevent any RP that we start as a squad or unit from getting stale. The worst thing we can do with RP is to create it and then leave it hanging because we signed up for an RP when we weren't able to stay active. Sure, emergencies happen, but emergencies are emergencies not regular occurrences. So if you're one of those people that regularly drops out of RP because of a family emergency or an emergency at work, you're probably not the best fit for this RP group. No offense to anyone reading this, I'm just being honest.

Moving forward, for those of you that would be interested, I'd ask that you look at our characters.

Ree Azalus: http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?threads/ree-azalus.60960/
Griswold Talinus: http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?threads/griswold-talinus.60976/

I ask that you check them out so that you can determine whether or not you think your characters would want to be in an elite special forces unit with the likes of these two characters.
If the answer is yes, then I would ask that you reply to this thread with a link to the character that you think would be a nice fit for this concept elite military squad. Like I said, we're only looking for 2 or 3 others to be a part of the group initially. If things go well, there may be room for more in the future.

So what should you be asking yourself if you decided to create a character or submit an existing character? You need to ask yourself what you want out of this RP group, both as a writer and as your character. What's it going to take to keep you active, interested, and enthusiastic about the RP? What is going to motivate you and keep you motivated? These are the things we want to know before hand so we can facilitate immersive RP as a group and increase our chances of having good synergy and a lot of fun together.

Last but not least, don't forget that we're all going to be Rebel soldiers, albeit from different walks of life (potentially). So, yes, that means we need to get out there and fight the good fight for the Rebellion. We need to do what we can to help them create a New Republic. I'm not saying this has to be what motivates your character, I'm only mentioning this so that you remember that we are serving the Rebellion, we're not just using them as a blanket faction for our RP group. So contributing to the plot and the story should be one of our top priorities. If the Rebellion asks us to do something, we will most likely do it, unless what they've asked us to do is driving 100 mph through a school zone on Unreasonable Street. I think you get the picture. ;)

So, I think I'll open this up now. There is still more to come, we'll be working on developing more about the squad and sharing bits of information as we go along. I'll be talking with some of the AFLs and maybe FLs today to see about "putting the team together" and how we can make sense of it in terms of the story. Ultimately there needs to be some crappy mission that these individuals get sent on together that will forge that unbreakable bond that they will develop. After that, we can really explore the ins and outs of each character and how they interact with one another. Should be really fun and really cool, hope we still garner some interest from the crowd.

Thanks!

Yo, totatlly still down for this. I kinda want to explore the idea of a Merc who's hired and gets assigned as the squads demo expert. He's orginally in it for the pay day, but over time he comes to truly respect and befriend the members of the squad, seeing them as a family. I should have the character sheet up in a day or 2, mostly deciding on his final loadout.
