Description:
The Basics: The Salamander is far from a marvel of military science, but it has proven to be an effective weapon in the past, silent, and potentially deadly, the Salamander Wrist Launcher was commissioned by Hastur Reigns through an armourer within the Jedi Army to cater to his very specific set of skills to do with botany and the creation of toxic oils from his many plants. The Weapon offers two methods of general distribution; Darts: which upon impact inject their payload into the intended victim with a micro-filament tube. And Vaporization grenades: Pressurized capsules which use heat and friction to turn concentrated chemicals into a heavy-as-air vapour similar to gas grenades. Hastur works hard to keep each of the darts and capsules saline and safe to use with clips loaded with each of the dangerous materials that he has created color coded on his person to avoid confusion.
Inner Workings: The firing system is almost entirely analog and semi-automatic, made of moving parts and resistant metals connected to a battery which is primed with the flip of a switch that leads to heating the components which heat up and pressurize the air behind the darts as well as priming the grenades for use. This process, with no computerized parts lends the weapon to be largely immune to EMPs and can be used in almost any atmosphere or climate, but to some differing effects. The darts are not simply fired with pressure, unlike most compressed gas projectiles, but instead add heat to the mix, heating the pressurized gas behind the locked projectile for even more force than other dart weaponry, firing the darts at excesses of 300 meters per second and the grenades at approximately a third of that speed.
Darts: The Darts of the Salamander are slender aerodynamic needles which are fired at high speeds from the barrel on one side of the weapon. These darts are plasteel darts that have an internal layer as well as the external protective layer as well as an alusteel, laser cut micro filament tube which acts as the method of injection. On impact, the interior layer of the capsule dart is made to collapse with the pressure of the sudden stop of impact, injecting the substance out of the end of the tube and into the intended target, while the exterior casing protects the integrity of the dart and frames the slight wings on the sides which allow it to fly straight. Of the Darts unique features, it is made to slip through woven/ fabric armour like kevlar or armorweave with relative ease due to the thinness and sleek nature of the needle moving between the fibers or penetrating the fabric. Making most armour-weave or bodysuits completely useless against the darts themselves, however, unlike bullets, the darts are completely incapable of penetrating solid armour plates, unable to penetrate as well as dealing them no structural damage in the slightest on impact.
Vaporization Grenades: The vaporization grenades are larger 4cm long capsules which are fired from the adjacent launcher of the weapon. Each capsule consists of an outer steel layer and an inner insulating plasteel layer as well as a light exterior fitting which connects to the launcher itself, holding it in place while fired and allowing the grenade to be primed. Low heat is applied to this connection which heats and powers a small rapid moving turbine which spins within the capsule rapidly, vaporizing the concentrated oils within them and effectively weaponizing the grenade. Upon the pull of the trigger the grenade launches in the intended direction, and after a brief, time-able delay they open, expelling the high pressure vapour in a slightly heavier-than-air cloud that expands to a radii of about 4.5m wide. The method is perfect for contact toxins or inhalants as the vapours are capable of lingering for some time until they fall.
