Uh...no. It's a fairly common modification, nearly as common as those who go for some powerful Crystal (ala KOTOR) or decide to use Cortosis/Phrik/Mandalorian Iron in their lightsaber construction. It's become a tad cliche.

Besides, if your lightsaber hilt needed to be lightsaber proof, your fingers would be gone at any rate...

Unless you were throwing it...but yea in any other case it wouldn't really do you any good.

Well, using special metals is ususally a case of "bling-ing it up" to be honest. The Force activated switch is just as much a safety feature in that it can't be fiddled with by a non-Sensetive for whatever reason. And it might look neater, not having a big ol' button sticking out of the hilt.

Agreed, although it does make it slightly easier for a Force Sensitive to mess around with the hilt in terms of sabotage: after all, a standard activation stud can be locked, have a timed pressure-sensor or even a biometric reader attached to it. An internal switch would need to be of simpler design, and telekinetically manipulated, so it would be far harder for a Jedi or Sith to prevent an opponent from using that particular design flaw in their favour. Just have to recognise the trigger and trip it at the right moment and bye-bye Force User...

Only one question, because I am irritating and pedantic ;P

How is it that only Ryak can activate the saber, surely anyone with sufficient command of the Force and knowledge of internal switch mechanisms could do so, or any Dark side user if that is the case?

Thanks. Actually the profile is a little outdated and needs some editing. The part about the Darth is old and I plan on removing it and it needs edits elsewhere. The lightsaber can only be used by Ryak because he built it and imbued the activation switch with his force signature. So it will turn on only when he uses the force to activate it.
