He's a team mystery grunt and really quite hated by his sister. They won't be travelling together or anything, he will pop in every now and then to check up on her or if she's being bullied or something. He might start doing the gym's to try and help her by making her push harder to improve and beat him, and win back her trust, but not for himself. He kind of has no goals for himself, he does everything for his sister.

I'm essentially doing it as a plot device. Like I say, I'm not viewing this as a competitive thing. He transitioned as he became older, the quilava represents that as he's an older more serious Pokemon, rather than a cutsie cyndaquill.
