Terminus was a long ways out there. So far out that the only authority would be local, which there wasn't much, and Sector Rangers. No FWA or New Republic arm could reach that far out into the rim. Not yet, anyway. This operation would unquestionably fall under Sector Ranger jurisdiction. Corran would help just about anyone take down a Hutt Cartel operation anywhere in the galaxy. They were publicly-known gangsters and those slugs practically gorged themselves on that fact. The strike wasn't the hold-up. It was what came after.

Lorcan aptly spelled it out. Whatever evidence remained after the operation would be confiscated for logging and recording of evidence but also to break up organized crime bases. What good would it do to arrest a whole load of people in a spice den but leave the drug haven intact? The young ranger leaned back in his chair, resting his chin on his hand with a thumb stroking along the ridge of his jaw in contemplation. Normally this type of conundrum would be sent up the chain of command back at headquarters. Headquarters was a charred husk now. Officers above him were dead, in the hospital like Chief Hudson, or scattered into disorganized chaos in the aftermath. It would fall on his shoulders to make the right call and stand by it afterward.

Sky-blue eyes glanced between the doctor and the private contractor. A tight-rope between duty, trust, and friendship. After a clear time in thought, Corran sat up again and nodded to Doctor Morata. "I can commit the Sector Rangers to support the Morata Corporation in this instance. We appreciate you sharing your intel with us." That was a diplomatic way of saying their cooperation was above-board. The blond ranger had worked alongside corporate entities before as long as they had some risk and input. Sector Rangers helped responsible citizens and organizations - they weren't attack dogs of private enterprise.

Now came the hard part. "In the case of the laboratory," Corran began slowly, looking more directly at Ilana with an air of professionalism, "The Sector Rangers can leave the property in your possession. However, if we do discover large quantities of this virus or other biological contaminants, they must processed as evidence and then destroyed." He paused for a moment and appended his statement. "Except for research samples. The Sector Rangers would appreciate Morata Corporation's cooperation in allowing our personnel onto company property where this research is being conducted to review security measures and no commercial reproduction of the Hutt virus or biological contaminants are underway." A compromise. The Rangers had no use for some abandoned lab at the literal edge of the galaxy. This virus couldn't simply be ignored either. Corran would have to rely on Ilana and her company to research, hopefully, a cure and prevent the worst of it from falling into the wrong hands. That's where Ranger oversight came in. They'd be free to check on the on-goings there if they were going to participate in this operation. The young man stared at Ilana for a moment longer before blinking and leaning back. He suspected a direct line to the CEO didn't hurt either.

"Is this acceptable, Doctor?"

The reason for this was two-fold; to humiliate the Hutts, and gain rapport with the public. The Doctor who would find the cure, especially with evidence left. If not, well, it was a strike against the Hutts and a good favor name with the Rangers. Making allies and rapport was only the beginning.

"Research samples would be needed if MorataCorp wishes to begin research into synthesizing a cure, yes," she agreed quietly, glancing at Lorcan. "I accept these terms, with the caveat that all physical properties, including files of personnel, be shared as a sign of joint cooperation."

However, her lips quirked ever so faintly at his professionalism. Even that was attractive in its' own way, though there was no other expression change to show her inner feelings.

"If these terms are met, I accept."
She then glanced to Lorcan, and nodded once. "As it is, I do have a plan with you. You are diverse with intelligence; as chief of security, I would like you to research any holes this operation might have. Also, thank you for arriving in the first place. I know it's slightly," here she glanced back at Corran.

"Unconventional."

Lorcan had to fight the urge to make a whip-cracking sound when Corran decided that he could bend the rules a little bit for his girlfriend or whatever Doc was to the dude. Honestly, considering his 'skill' at losing track of his friend's lives the two of them could be married with three kids for all he cared. If that was the case though he really hoped the children took after Doc; they had a chance at looking less like a kicked puppy half the time that way.

Though Doc seemed into it; who was he to kinkshame?

"Personnel files?"
he raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms slightly, "I get why we want them; leads to run down and the people to recruit who know the right way the beakers go but... what legal right to we have to the private information of people not yet convicted of a crime?"

He stared pointedly at Doc. Lorcan hoped she got the message that he was definitely fine to steal copies of the records she was requesting but, from a legal standpoint, they had no legal grounds to have any kind of access to them. It was a perversion of justice waiting to happen - so best her Ranger boytoy didn't know that it was going to be happening.

Lorcan ordered another espresso from a passing waitress.

"Finding holes to fill... you sure know how to make a man feel dirty, Doc."
he joked as he daintily tasted his coffee, pinky extended, "And it's no trouble. After all - what's a little tension and bloody armor amongst friends, hm?"

Scientific samples were one thing, but personnel files were a bridge too far. Not only were those files private information and couldn't be released or shared without consent, but many of them were likely records of criminals. If Morata Corporation wanted to chase down Hutt Clan scientists for their own gain, Corran wasn't going to make it easy to get ahold of them ones who broke the law. In an unexpected but pleasing twist, Lorcan was the one to point this out. A blond eyebrow rose for a moment. Maybe there was still a bit of Sector Ranger inside of the former street urchin after all. The young ranger held up a palm towards Ilana. "Unfortunately, I cannot make such commitment on behalf of the Sector Rangers." The flat palm then swept to gesture at Lorcan. "Your associate makes an excellent point. At least until investigations have been completed, those personnel are suspects in a case against the Hutt cartels."

It seemed that mere 'associate' was actually Morata Corporation's Chief of Security. Bewilderment was plain on Corran's face as he swiveled his head to look at the highly positioned Lorcan. How long did their history go back to put that much trust in him? Blue eyes shifted instantly to the Arkanian CEO's face. Perhaps she didn't trust the former Sector Ranger - only so far as he got paid. Stupefaction slowly morphed back into a stoic, professional face of a law enforcement officer, mostly to avoid rolling eyes at Lorcan's jest about bloody armor.

Though the mention of the upcoming operation clearly piqued the ranger's interest. Corran leaned on the small table with his elbows and interlaced his fingers. "My organization would like a hand in the planning of this operation, if possible. At the least, be able to review such a plan." It was a simple request. If the Sector Rangers were committing resources to a mission, they deserved to know what they were getting into. And to avoid being used as patsies for someone else.

She smiled slightly at Lorcan's sass; if they had been coworkers, it would have annoyed her far more, but as it was she was in a genial mood. For now. Perhaps the hormones were beginning to soften her reserve against the . abrasive former Ranger. "It was worth a try. So long as I have access to samples and the facility is deeded in my name, then." She extended her hand across the table to him, amber eyes once more in a calm mask of professionalism. The fact that he was bending the rules... bending his morals... was sweet.

There was so much he was doing for her, she would have to work hard to reward him in return.

"Of course," she answered, nodding once. "A simple strike team might be all that's needed; the actual manufacturing site was skeleton crew the last time I saw it. However there is also a matter of outside security; Lorcan," she addressed the man, glancing back to him, "find any security holes that they might have, holonet or physically, and keep in contact with both myself and Ranger Velt."

The undertone, perhaps, he would understand.

Leave whatever information you have in my hands first.

However, this wasn't outright said, but instead she glanced back to Corran, golden eyes softening ever so slightly. The man, even now, was being a ranger to his core, the badge more than a symbol.. and she found it endearing.

However, not a single shred of that feeling was to show in her features. It was all business for now.

"Do we have a deal, Ranger Velt?"

Corran might be surprised that Lorcan was the one bringing up the law but that just meant his old friend hadn't given up hope that he was doing the right thing. It almost made Lorcan feel bad that he was, effectively, planning on taking advantage of his old friend and the torch he held out for the idea that Lorcan wasn't as horrible as he said he was. It twisted his stomach a little bit but it was a muted feeling and that muting of the emotion made him feel even worse.

He should feel worse about plotting to betray his friend's trust but he just... couldn't. It was like there was a block on him that made it almost impossible, no matter how hard he tried. He was beginning to think he needed a shrink session sooner than he had planned.

"We can find other ways to find what we need without breaking too many laws."
he assured Doc and Corran both, "I'll keep my ear to the ground and see what I hear."

Lorcan raised an eyebrow at the fact that he was going to be bringing Corran up to date on the information that he found but decided that it wasn't his place to say anything. If Doc wanted some transparency then she would have it.

"Will be good to have Corran as a sounding board for my ideas."
he admitted with an easy smirk, "Always a good idea to have someone on hand who isn't afraid of telling you he thinks you're being an idiot."

Doc trusted Corran to help her and her company so Lorcan would as well. He trusted Corran with his life, personally, but he also knew the man well enough (or he liked to think so) that there were lines that he would not forgive them for crossing.

Which meant he had best not get caught crossing them.

Being outnumbered made negotiations a bit more difficult than Corran anticipated. Threading the needle with both of them being personally close to the blond ranger made it even more of a challenge. With private files on personnel off limits and Sector Rangers being apart of the planning, it seemed he had managed to professionally stand his ground. Sky-blue eyes shifted between Lorcan and Ilana. Both were fairly unreadable. Corran's gaze finally came to rest on the wintery Arkanian. What was she thinking behind those golden eyes? A hand had slid across the table to him. He didn't take it immediately. A clarification was needed. The young ranger inhaled slowly before speaking, "The Sector Rangers can't deed a building we raid to anyone." He paused for a breath. "But... after it has been cleansed of criminal elements, whoever owns the property after that, legally, is none of our business." Corran clasped Ilana's hand firmly, "We have a deal, Doctor Morata."

Leadership. This is what it felt like. Diplomacy between competing interests and making calls that decided the partnerships between organizations and people. Corran liked it. The ability to make an impact. To make choices that mattered beyond who ended up in hand-cuffs and who didn't on street patrol. He wondered if such feelings got addicting. Though they came with a heavy weight too. Outpost Blue, that same campaign that had driven Lorcan to the brink, nearly killed Bast, and did kill many, many rangers, had been planned by someone. Decided by someone. For a brief moment, the young man wondered if that higher-up had died in the fall of headquarters.

Lorcan's quip brought Corran back to the present. The blond youth smirked and chuckled with amusement. Even in the grim times, that rugged former ranger had a way of making an absurdity of it all. "You're fairly lucky that you're rarely an idiot around me then or you'd never hear the end of it," Corran teased back with a friendly nod. Between the two of them, both experienced ways different and similar, they could avoid an Outpost Blue bloodbath. At least, he hoped they could. With a deal in place, the blond ranger turned to Ilana again and politely gestured with an open hand. "With those affairs in order, is there anything else we need to discuss, Doctor?" It wasn't like he was in any hurry. He just wanted to make sure everything was taken care of on the professional front. It would be a discourtesy to not give Ilana, when representing the head of her company, the respect such a position entailed.

There was no denying the warmth in her chest now. She had foggy memories of a few nights before, perhaps she had dreamed his confession to her in her penthouse, but when she woke up he was still there. Next to her. And even now, trading quips with Lorcan, he was here, working with her. Bending his own rules for her. For a moment longer than necessary, she held his hand, then smiled slightly, giving it a slight squeeze before withdrawing.

At the formal term, she paused, then shook her head, glancing to Lorcan.
"Nothing in the professional sense. But..." she panned her glance fully to Lorcan, amber eyes glimmering speculatively, the smile still hovering on the corners of her lips. "I anticipate any holes you find," she spoke calmly, then back to Corran.

"I am sorry to mix business with pleasure, but... the timing lined up in a way I hadn't anticipated." It was the closest she could get to an apology... hopefully Lorcan wouldn't tease her too much about it, but she wouldn't put it past the hired private eye.

Though she couldn't deny wanting some privacy with the Ranger all of a sudden. These hormones were a struggle to control already, but she would curb the urge to take another sip of tea.

Lorcan was tired of the meeting already.

It took quite a bit of effort for him to tone himself down and he had been rather... understated for himself because he was around Doc and Corran. One was paying him credits and the other was such a boy scout he might try and arrest him for disturbing the peace considering half of his language.

He hummed a little bit.

"Well not that this little business and pleasure meeting hasn't been fun..."
he drawled as he stood up, "But I'm gonna leave you two alone."

Lorcan waved a hand at the two of them as he sauntered off.

"Don't eye-kark each other so much it makes the waitress jealous!"
