The wind was quiet and calm on this night.

The moons hung in the sky and shined brightly, a cool breeze washed over the area after night fall and made the outside actually bearable to go about one's business. The settlement was known as Zendella, fairly small but was having itself a little bit of a boom from recent corporation involvement due to resources that could be mined sufficiently and at a good rate. Hardly any competitors in this region to boot. Although there were some ruins nearby that were said to be haunted in some fashion or another but most just figured it was the local sand people who hung out around there. Maybe out of a spiritual obligation or just liked the rocks, Vale wasn't sure and didn't really care.

"You think this is a good place Durdge?"

Said Vale as she lit up her thin cigara, the end burnt brightly against the dark night as they looked out from the little food-stand ran by a lone droid who beeped and tweeted along with the rhythms of his work. Durdge, a personal battle droid that she recently had made to order from a dealer back on Nar Shadda, spun around in his seat and took a brief look around the settlement.

"A bit of a dump, don't you think?"

Vale giggled to herself quietly before taking another drag, awaiting her order from the droid.

"See, that's why you need to broaden your processor a bit. You have to spot opportunity when it's right in front of you."

The droid emitted a small grunt as she waved him off lightly, turning to the droid as it served up her bowl of noodles and recently gutted sand worm. Still steaming right out of the pot, she poked and prodded around with her chop sticks before getting a nice pinch of it together and slurped it quietly. After she was done with the first bite, she turned back around, wiping her mouth gently.

"Although I can say we'd have to invest in the food.. A little too exotic for people who might pass through. Maybe we'll just add spices."

The droid sat in silence.

Vale sighed before leaning over and gave his head a few knocks.

"Think I'll have to upgrade that personality core of yours. Definitely a little on the dull side."

Vale let out a sigh before she looked up and noticed a small club on the other side of the dusty street, the sound of music filled the air. Castravian jazz? A classic she had heard of before and it really could set the mood. They probably had drinks too, she definitely felt the need for a few after such a dull evening so far. Trotting over to the other side with her droid, they entered the smoky open floor with many smaller sectional seatings carved into half circle areas off to the side. She took her place in one of the alcoves, setting her coat aside as she called one of the hosts to bring her one of their flavored water pipes. The droid stood at attention right outside the alcove, rifle holstered and watching intently over the room for anything that could be out of the ordinary.

Suddenly a set of droids took to the stage adorned with ropes and flags, signifying other settlements that they were connected and old paintings over the stone stage that signified very old tribes that used to traverse this area during a time where civilization here was rather bare. Some even that of the sand people. This place had a charm and Vale could feel herself settling in the idea of expanding here. It was much safer than Nar Shaddaa after the infestation that occurred. Nasty business with the Hutt being executed as well. Further away from all that the better she believed.

The droids began emitting wonderful displays of colored holograms, seemingly projecting a journey through the stars as they began to play music they had synthesized themselves. Through the slight high over coming her from the water pipe mixed with an imported fruit that produced a slight psychedelic effect, she laid herself down, head propped up ever slow slightly watch as the room dimmed to let the music and mood fully take the room.

Perhaps it was the slight high but she felt a sensation. She had always thought it simply to be her gut telling her something important was about to occur but for it to be here of all places was strange to say the least, she let her eyes drift about the room as she called out to Durdge.

"Stand down boy.. I think there's something.. Or someone here and I don't want you tugging that leash too hard."

The droid quietly took a seat next to Vale and powered down for the eventual encounter.

Tatooine, a barren rock if anyone every did see one. They always said that the most unscrupulous individuals would be here, scum and villainy they say. If someone wanted someone or something to disappear, Tatooine was typically the place to go since it stretched further than any could imagine – countless number of secrets still hid within the sands buried deep within it’s heat and dangerous creatures and the horrible dust storms that could grow so violent you couldn’t even leave your house. This was the facts of life on Tatooine, so if someone needed something or was looking for some one this was likely a place to go; but never in the major centers, it was always the small outlying things that proved most valuable.

Ovinci landed a short while ago and obtained a landspeeder for his personal transportation while he was on Tatooine. He had been told to get out there and see things and do things, but that was sort of expected of a Jedi Knight. Ovinci didn’t have a padawan learner or a master anymore, he was a free creature able to wander the galaxy on his own and do as he wish. This was a refreshing pace for the Knight however, it wasn’t long ago that he was confined to the temple grounds by necessity and by choice. Eventually he needed to do something else than just sit around and that’s what he did.

The Mirialan Jedi was no fool though, he knew that this planet wasn’t exactly completely friendly to his kind – and he wasn’t referring to his species – so he would need to take some precautions to ensure his safety, but if push came to shove, he’d push back with an unseen force. Because of these considerations, he was wearing a considerably basic robe, something inconspicuous to the untrained eye, the weather leant itself to harsher conditions, so a travel cloak was no surprise, and he ensured his lightsaber was very well hidden in the folds of his robe.

Ovinci originally came to Tatooine to just see if he could be useful, see if he could find something hidden amongst the wilds; he never had a true purpose. He had also been told that the planet would offer a challenge if someone wanted to tackle that, a good method to exposure and help refine your physical prowess – that would be a secondary thought. As a fighter, a warrior, a true “knight” by the common standards he was no stranger to fighting. He was no stranger to physical conditioning, he hulking frame proved that fact.

But while he was in a major center he had heard of some recent dealings, shady as they were happening. He had caught wind that several citizens had gone missing, non-natives of Tatooine. There were also whispers of an individual asking around for “artifacts” but they’d never elaborated. The story goes, this person was asking around in a non-subtle way and caught the attention of some opportunists who clearly saw a weak fool talking of “hokey things” they said. Ovinci was intrigued by this sense of adventure though, here he could try and help some people out – maybe find the group of people? Stop a slave trade? Find an artifact? Or just have an adventure! He really didn’t know, and it didn’t really bother him but it was an opportunity to feel useful as he passed through.

A drive for adventure was always the Mirilan Jedi’s goal; so he did some asking and was now tracking a group of folks travelling to what he assumed would be a camp or mobile base of some sort. Really, it didn’t matter – it was sandy, it was dusty, it was kind of boring so why not give it a go? He hopped onboard the landspeeder rented out by a local shop, it was nothing luxurious, but it did the trick and offered some comfort; he’d been tracking them for the better part of the afternoon and now the suns were setting, and the moons were reaching high, the temperature dropping swiftly to a more comfortable median; what more could he ask for? Well, a lot more consider the speeder started to spit and sputter, he needed supplies and with what little choice he had, he rolled into this quaint little settlement.

But he was a stranger from a foreign land. He wasn’t quite familiar with some of the Tatooine dialects and signs, you could make do with basic in the major centers but these outlying places didn’t always embrace the basics of basic and catered to their own specific dialects or languages. The green Jedi parked the speeder and looked around for a shop or something, but this late at night he didn’t think he’d find much and would have to find alternatives.

The scent of some unknown food caught his nose as it whiffed from some food cart. The food tickled his nose and his stomach growled in response – gosh, guess I am hungry after all… Ovinci thought to himself, he wandered over but quickly passed when he saw what was available – not something he was keen on. He looked around and noted sounds of music and assumed that was a cantina or something, he could get out of the elements and get something more… basic at the cantina and maybe find a place to stay; what did he have to lose?

Summoning his courage, he entered the unknown cantina and was immediately greeted by soothing sounds and dim lighting. Cozy, he thought as he dropped his hood revealing his face in full and his messy brown hair.

Looking around he noted the patrons, not a large group. He noted the funky holograms and was intrigued for a moment. He stood in the doorway as he looked it all over, it was obvious some of this stuff was new to him – not a local. Ovinci casually walked over to the bar and got the attention of a droid server, he asked for some food and a simple beverage. He waited patiently for it to arrive, he turned around on his stool to observe the surrounding some more; though the Jedi had a Force at their back and was often made aware of dangers and other links in the Force, he didn’t feel it right now. The Force was telling him what he wanted to hear most, right now he was not in danger and he was safe.

The music changed with his entry, the new beats accompanied with a soothing female melodic voice. The words almost indistinguishable to the ear through its harmonizers and synthesis as the guests near the dance floor took to it and began melding into quite the scene to behold. Lavish dances and displays of merriment, something few and far between in the wastes of dunes. Only sand, rocks and things that either go missing or found on purpose or merely stumbled upon. The latter was to occur.

She stood slowly, feeling the haze of the fruit still buzzing through her, the lights and sounds intensified greatly but became all the more beautiful. She could feel that she wanted to change right then and there morph into anyone and everyone. The greatest expression to her was the freedom to be whoever you wanted to be whenever you wanted to. Such was a Clawdite of her caliber.

While most were born with the disgusting reality of their form, Vale was spared such a fate. Always the pretty face, some say it spoiled her but they didn't talk for much longer. After all, Vale was always listening. Especially to those who thought she wasn't.

She moved through the little crowds here and there, merely a nobody to these people but that would change in the near future. Once all matters were settled, she'd be a familiar face to some and an all too different face to others.

Her golden hued eyes with its mesmerizing black circles that scanned across the crowd over to the bar. A drink would surely go well with such a pleasant high after all. Some argued that doing such a thing was dangerous but if you've been doing it long enough, you know your limits. Sometimes you need to push them to see what you're really made of.

The hulking frame wasn't hard to spot and after all, she was listening and wondered if they were. This seemed like where her gut feeling was pulling as she waltzed the floor closer until finally sliding just close enough to prompt just a little bit of attention.

"I'll have one Reactor Core."

The word slipped from her mouth like velvet, soothing with an air of being disarmed in its entirety. Another signal she wanted to push to the one she was looking to get closer to before she turned her head, resting it on her hand as he propped her elbow on the bar itself.

"It's beautiful isn't it? The galaxy is rather quiet here, it's nice."

Her eyes were fixated past him as she looked onward to the display of lights, the coalescence of the stars moving about, dancing around planets. Sometimes they showed destructive super-novas or beautiful cascading nebulas. Her eyes didn't move from the display until she finished her sentence before they snapped over to him, blinkingly gently.

"An off-worlder here of all places, what are the odds of that? Interesting to say the least."

The droid slid over her drink, stopping it with the tip of her fingers with ease before she circled it closer.
It glowed a variety colors and was just a little warm to the touch.

"Anything particular you're here for? Me, I'm on just on a little business trip. This place is quaint and I'm interested in picking it up as an expansion to some of my business affairs. The people seem nice and it's tucked away from the usual hustle and bustle of the less than savory settlements."

Taking the Reactor Core shot into a grip with three of her fingers, she took it to her lips and instead of taking it all in one rushed movements, she slowly sipped it before placing it back down. Only about a quarter of it had been sipped away.

"I like the burn, it's a little boring otherwise. Not that I'm chasing the excitement but I just want to enjoy the moment. Otherwise what's the point of living?"

She mused to herself, smiling as she rimmed the top of the shot glass.

"If you want one, I'll order you one. A gift from one traveler to the next so to say."

She took up the glass again, sipping quietly before placing it back down.

"Some people say I'm always listening but here I am, talking away. What is your name?"

The question hung in the air, waiting for him to take it as she looked over, her golden eyes staring. Softly but more than that.

As the Jedi sat patiently waiting for the droid to return with his requested food and beverage, a familiar sense – a voice began to whisper in his head, faint and only there to those who know how to find it. The Force was speaking to him, quietly but it was without a doubt present, as it always was. Ovinci grew up with this sense and these whispers for his entire life; the Mirialan people grew up with a primitive understanding of the Force, it was natural to them and often drove them. From an incredibly young age he was always taught to respect and listen to the Force; they had a strong connection to the world around them. So it was no surprise that he was now being told to be alert.

The whispers started out as that, a whisper when he had caught the attention of Vale – all she needed to do was hold her gaze on him for the moment as her interest was piqued. The volume then increased steadily as she stood up and began to approach him. The Force wasn’t telling him to fight or get out of there it just wanted him to be made aware that someone had their attention on him and now was not the time to ignore it. Ovinci expected as much, out here the lines between Sith and Jedi were blurred, people saw the Force or a Lightsaber Hilt and they instantly got nervous. It didn’t matter if they were “good” or “bad” they were just weridos.

The stranger approached him and intentionally made a move to get his attention, as if he were a suitor for the woman, this only made the Jedi smirk slightly, he didn’t know if she was trying to be subtle or not, it was obvious enough if she tried to make it subtle. Though she approached and spoke with a velvety voice, maybe to get his attention further. He watched her in the corner of his eye and saw her resting her head on her hand like an admirer, trying to demonstrate a school yard innocence; he didn’t take the bait yet, he remained looking forward at the dance floor and the surroundings.

“It certainly can be.” Ovinci replied to her question of the beautiful display, his voice just as cool and smooth as Vale’s.

To her comment about an off-worlder being here of all places, “Not that interesting since it’s Tatooine.” He finished his comment as the drink slid across the counter to Vale’s fingers.

He provided no initial response to her question as to why he was here. He decided to wait to speak, he watched as the woman oddly sipped away the small glass – not a common tactic by those drinking such a small glass, and when she set it down, he smirked at the remaining quarter of the shot glass.

“The beverage burns? Then that just provides a curious drink, no wonder you sipped it as such. Most would just allow a drink to chill and down it whole. Or is the burn you reference the weather than I say to you, get some shelter and pick and choose your days… but of course if you’re referring to a burn in any other sense, you should probably see a doctor. It’s not supposed to burn.” The Jedi was cool with his response and didn’t quiver once as he spoke. He’s voice exuded confidence. This was not your typical Jedi Knight, all stoic and silent musing philosophically.

Vale had offered him the same beverage before she went to finish it, Ovinci spoke as she was finishing the beverage and when she set it down once more, he continued, “That’s mighty bold of you isn’t it? Approaching the first dashingly gorgeous male you come across and start making passes on him? I know your game, it’s impressive really.” He flashed her the best charming smile he could, see if it would get a rise out of her, he met his sharp blue eyes with Vale’s golden eyes, he held the gaze for a period – he wasn’t prepared to take his eyes off of her, not right away at least. He didn’t want her to think she made him nervous or afraid.

The Jedi Knight took a moment to consider her offer, he was no stranger to alcoholic beverages, though he didn’t indulge often he was not a dry as some others. One of the perks of the Force was the ability to purge toxins for ones body and alcohol fell into that category as well. If the female was trying to impair him in anyways even by adding an additive he could still purge it fairly quickly as he hadn’t used any amount of stamina today utilizing the Force as he knew the importance of low-key; the only way she would be able to give him enough alcohol or ‘additives’ to incapacitate him, she’d need to know his true nature and at this point he was confident she didn’t know anything other than he just seemed to be some off-worlder travelling around. A single shot, sure why not? But no more.

The droid’s timing was impeccable, as she finished her beverage his food and drink was brought to him. A bantha burger and some water, “I’ll indulge you. Give me the drink she had as well.” Ovinci spoke as he turned around in the stool to prepare to eat it, he continued to answer her question however, “I’m out here to find the best bantha burger available, ya think this is the one?” His answer was obviously not a serious one.

“And then I’m looking for a place to stay tonight, and resupply in the morning before carrying on. That’s what I’m doing out here.” His answer was semi-genuine, he really did need those things, but he didn’t specifically answer the question she had asked – he knew she wanted more from him in terms of an answer, but he wasn’t particular keen on giving her the answer just yet. He enjoyed this game.

“Big green.” Was his answer to her request for a name, “No, surely I jest. I’ve been called many a name over the years, but my parents gave me ‘Ovinci’ to identify me from the other green children – we all look the same.” Ovinci laughed at his own lame joke.

“You though, what’s yours? And what do you hope to gain by listening to me – many other folks here after all.” He sat upright in a confident manner, “Can’t blame you though. As I said, you’re a bold one, aren’t you?”

As she replied to him, he decided to eat what was before him.

Such a little chatter box he was and Vale was absolutely delighted at him responding so well to her advance to engage in her discussion that she so effortlessly prompted. He was matching her action for action and she thought to herself, what a measured way to do something, it was certainly telling of someone who was posing themselves in a conversation. A slight indication that they wanted to engage with you all the same but didn't want to either give too much away or not enough. She had piqued his interest, that much was to be sure and she was still ever so delighted.

"Alcohol burns. Just looking to have a little bit of feeling all the way out here in these distant sands."

The words left her lips as she closed both of her eyes, tilting her head on the rest of her hand and gave him another soft smile.

She watched as the server droid began to pour his dranks, the mixing of what could be understandable considered chemicals instead of alcohol to create such a unique concoction before preparing to pour him a small glass shot. Just as it nearly finished she erupted with a request, leaning over the counter and waving her hand about mildly.

"No wait! Give him on of those little neat glasses, they look kind of industrial.. Like a reactor core! I know they're extra but I think they're kind of cute."

The server droid buzzed with nod and proceeded to move about the bar, searching for her request.

"Just a little token of appreciation of being so willing to talk with me."

She flashed him another subtle smile before taking her glass back into her fingered grasp and downing the rest time as there was so little to sip on. As she finished, she let out an exasperated gasp and clinked back down onto the counter, just as one should when taking a shot.

"Haha! I think I'll have another actually when he returns. As for the Bantha Burger, I'm not too sure! I've only just arrived but I'm curious to know if it's something you like. If so, I'll keep it around."

The statement was a lead-on to her goal of being here. The acquisition of a property, specifically the settlement itself so she could began building something rather important to her. But it was such a minor detail to disclose so she chose not to as she remembered Ovinci's previous questions. She her hand and propped it underneath her chin but this time turned away from the bar and looked towards Ovinci as she supported her other arm that was helping prop up her face as she quizzically took her index finger and rubbed it at the edge of her lips up and down with a giggle and grin at his little joke.

"I'm here on business. All the way from the once wondrous Jewel of the Hutts, Nar Shaddaa and felt this might be a good place to start some of said business. Quiet and tucked away. Nothing too much going on and I like that for now."

Her body swayed side to side from the waist down as the seat twisted with her back and forth.

"They don't look like they're doing much talking but rather much more dancing than anything else. I'm not in the particular mood myself to carry on like that. But that may change with another one of these, Waiter! Another round for me!"

As she erupted into what would be considered 'boisterous' for a woman of her stature, she lifted her glass shot before it slipped from her grip and fell right onto the floor, glass breaking and spreading about as she placed a hand over her mouth in pure disbelief. She then began to giggle and erupted into her cute little laughter. Those around them also began to erupt into pure celebration! A glass breaking was a good sign that someone was enjoying themselves and even the droid began to beep and buzz with sound and lights in accordance to their celebration before it slid Ovinci his own Reactor Core.

"Drink up, my 'Big Green' friend."

She said it with a big smile, eyes closed before they returned to an am almost half hearted glance, sleepy looking even.

"They call me Vale."

“You’re looking for feeling out in the desert? Go to Mos Eisley. Plenty of folks looking to make a quick credit; heard most are willing as long as you’re paying – unless you’re not a twi’lek kind of person because I think they’re the most common?” Sometimes Ovinci thought himself to be funny, he was not as naïve as some of his Jedi counterparts, he knew what she was saying, and he knew how to tease in return. Unlike others he also wasn’t dense when it came to phrases and the like.

Ovinci proceeded to consume some of the meal put before him, it was hearty and cooked down to perfection, just the right amount of seasoning and juiciness. Can’t say it was top tier, but that’s because he really wasn’t a food connoisseur, and this was probably the first one he’s had. It was good non the less, but what would one expect? Banthas were native to Tatooine after all, it was like getting the food from the source.

He monitored the droid prepping the next drink, he was cautious and curious at the same time. He didn’t know what was going into it and he wasn’t sure if the droid would be doing anything shady. True, droids often couldn’t do anything outside of their programming and as far as he could tell, no shady business had engrained itself into this humble settlement, not yet at least. But they issue with Tatooine is that this is where criminals grew and sustained themselves, law was loose here. People ignored Tatooine as well; and there clearly was no Sector Rangers present right now, in this settlement.

Vale interrupted the droid to change his glass, it was a curious move on her part and Ovinci didn’t know what she was getting at. It wasn’t exactly a suspicion he was just confused as to why she wanted to switch the glass until she spoke up, she wanted him to have it as a keepsake? Well tough luck he wasn’t going to keep it around, it’d remain here at the bar when he left. He attempts and trying to appear all ‘cute’ and ‘innocent’ were having little effect on the Jedi, mainly because he felt she was trying to hard to convey the message; it was an art form you needed to be a little more subtle if you wanted to win the hearts of people.

The Jedi Knight spoke blatantly, “You’re not as subtle as you think.” The Jedi was referring to her comments regarding ‘keeping it around’ and then when she spoke of Nar Shaddaa. Sure he may have been presumptuous to assume that just because she was out of a crime festered planet that she too was a shady sort; however she wasn’t doing a very good job of fanning that suspicion away from herself. She had a lot to learn when it came to subtly; Ovinci wasn’t suggesting he was an expert but he did know one thing, his nature needed a certain degree of subtly to minimize risk of discovery. The Jedi made no additional comments regarding her subtly, he would not elaborate what she was not being subtle about – that was up to her imagination.

Ovinci didn’t make a single move when the glass broke, he was simply looking at Vale. Nor did he make a comment on her thinking about ‘getting into the mood’ with another drink. As the glass slid down, the Mirialan did not look toward the glass and did not follow the glass he simply reacted and the glass hit his hand and without a thought or examination he slammed the drink down his throat and set it down casually onto the bar, one fell swoop.

As he brought the beverage to his mouth, he was already carefully bringing the Force to his aid, causing it a fast reaction which would subdue any intoxicating effects on his mind or body; he still felt a slight buzz from the consumption of the beverage but there was no burn and there were no instant blurs or instant effects, all he felt was ‘I have consumed alcohol, and this could typically impair me.’ He waved his hand over the top of the glass, signaling ‘no more.’

“And who, pray tell are ‘they’?”

"You're not as subtle as you think."

She only sat quietly, her eyes now tilted up to meet his with the sleepy look about them as to engender passivity. Her interactions were seemingly being received as either advances or as if she was fishing for something in particular. She had indeed wished to facilitate a friendly atmosphere and perhaps rouse a kindred bond between the two as fellow strangers with nowhere else to be.
But it seemed to Vale that her Big Green friend was simply all the more suspicious. It didn't really matter to her.

But she did listen to his second question.

"Business partners, friends and competitors."

The words were still being laced with a softness as she was undeterred by his behavior. She had hoped to relieve him of his guard but she was more than happy to let him keep it.

"Speaking of competitors, looks like some just walked through the door."

Her head didn't move a bit her eyes glanced to her left as the door was directly behind them across from the bar. A couple of humans walked through the veiled curtains strung with beads, making little clatters as they passed by them. If they weren't wearing leathered gear, the rest were wearing what appeared to be flight suits rigged with harnesses that had combat gear attached to them. They looked less like thugs than there partners who simply looked like your regular run-of-the-mill criminals. Perhaps a bit better funded at the least it seemed. They did indeed carry weapons but they were all holstered accordingly. Though they did look to be scanning the room for something or someone. That someone being Vale herself.

Some lit up their own cigaras, breathing small plumes of smoke through their lips as they cruised around the room while some took seats to the side alcoves to order some of the establishments water pipes. The music contended with no interruptions and the dancing kept up with the beats all the same. One of these thugs did walk straight up to the bar though and for a moment looked as if he was about to order before stepping back around, placing himself directly adjacent to Ovinci and Vale right smack dab in the middle.

His face was made up of a pallid complexion, pecked with scars and bits of cybernetics poking through the seams here and there. A visor was clearly drilled in over his eyes with a single red lighted cyclopic viewing window. The top of his head was rigged with various strands of wires that were fed down his neck and down underneath his collar into his back. To say he was a sore sight was putting it lightly.

"Well, well.. Vale. The business woman all the way from Nar Shaddaa. Were the freaks running around taking bites out of people enough to push you all the way out here? Heard you had a little more grit than to just turn tail and run, eheh.."

His voiced sounded like grating metal as it passed through his voice synthesizer that was neatly built into his throat, strobing with a dim red light as his chromed teeth flashed with every word.

"Heard you've been spreading lies about Grin and the rest of us. Said were doing 'illicit' things in the area and pissing off the locals with all those lies too! Now why would some little girl in a suit come all the way here to do that unless she was interested in stirring up trouble where she didn't belong?"

Vale turned herself accordingly to speak to the borderline creep that addressed her with little to no courtesy. She placed one hand hand on her outer thigh near waist, looking up to this mechanized mangled freak show before she began to speak.

"It's all true. Grin and the rest of you are doing nasty things here and you're making everyone's lives hard. It's rather the injustice, don't you think?"

A couple of nearby patrons had been paying attention, some at the bar and others standing off to the side. They began to grumble and letting out whispers just loud enough to be heard. "It's one of those bastards.. Peddling their drugs, guns and whatever else they can get their hands on.. Ruining the peace we have in our lands.." Vale smiled as she knew this freak of nature could hear every word. The thug's smirk quickly turned into one of anger, his fists tightening into a clench.

"You and I both know that's bullshit, don't we? All just because you-.."

Within almost the blink of an eye, she brought her left arm, forming her hand and fingers into the shape of a pistol. Index finger pointed straight at the goon's face, the rest tucked away and her thumb forming the hammer of her little imaginary gun.

"Bang."

Her eyes were wide open, staring almost blankly as the words slipped from her mouth.

The freak stood motionless before he began to laugh uncontrollably and within seconds of his eruptions, an actual gun shot rang out. The bullet entering underneath his jaw and exiting the top of his skull. Chunks of skull, metal and sparks flew outwards towards the ceiling as it splattered and the rest clattering onto the floor. The blood poured from the entry wound, blood and oil spilling out and rushing down his leather jacket. The body stood motionless, wavering slightly back and forth before falling back completely.

The music halted. The dancing ceased. The crowds looked onward in shock before they erupted into a loud celebration, cheering for the death of this freak. Meanwhile the rest of the goons that followed this man inside the establishment reeled in horror, quickly fleeing as fast as possible as a few of the patrons threw their glasses at them. Smashing them in every which direction as the cheering continued. Soon everyone went back to business as a few of the patrons dragged away the body to throw it out back.

The smoke of her revolver filtered up through her shirt, obscuring her face briefly. The shot clearly came from inside near her waist as the gun was tucked away out of sight. Having reached in through the opening between the buttons to aim with precision through the shirt. It was one hell of a trick shot.

She removed the weapon from inside her clothes, placing it delicately on the counter before she rebuttoned the bottom of her shirt and tucked it back inside her pants. She straightened her tie before turning back to Ovinci. A tilt of her head, closing her eyes and another soft smile.

"Do you want to help me with something?"

Her explanation of who ‘they’ were was moot. Just as obscure as he would expect from a stranger. He’d likely would have said something similar if he was in her position and asked the question – or he’d crack some lame joke. The mirialan turned his head ever so slightly as she mentioned that people had just walked in through the door. He had no response for that either, he simply made note of the cybernetics and how out of place they were. He shifted back in his seat and continued to eat his food without a care in the world. Ovinci wasn’t looking to be sociable with just any sod who walked in the bar.

The cybernetic human approached the bar and was closer to him now, for the average person they’d likely have some snarky comment or be turned off by the twisted mess of a creature that the human has developed into, but not Ovinci, he was just more concerned with why they thought they wanted to turn themselves into a robot with little to no free will – at least that was his take on the usage of cybernetics in excess.

The man begun to speak and approached the woman he was conversing with this entire time, he seemed annoyed, a little perturb if you will. A Jedi was trained to protect people and protect the galaxy, this would be one of those moments in which Ovinci could carry out his own duties and “save a damsel in distress” – but he didn’t. He could fight without the aid of his lightsaber, but lightsabers often ended conflicts rather quickly with the average person, but he knew that just brings further attention to himself and right now, he didn’t want that. He had a façade he was keeping, just a weary traveler, who might have been in the gym way too much, just a big green guy looking to eat a good burger.

And then the man spoke, the voice was wretched and could cause someone’s ears to bleed. Rough, metallic, sounded like a machine lacking lubricants. It was rather unsettling and was interrupting his meal. This chick had no fear right now, he could sense that without much effort. Ovinci twitched slightly at the mention of the AMS plague consuming Hutt space, it was exactly that – a plague in the galaxy and it needed to be remedied but he wasn’t as brave to go venture into the heart of the Five Syndicates to try and disperse or solve this issue – but he was also a realist, he knew he wouldn’t be able to help anyways, he had some healing properties and training but that wasn’t his specialty; it’d take a heck of a lot more than a single Jedi to fix that.

As Vale was subtly getting into position to deliver a killing shot to the man, Ovinci stopped what he was doing abruptly. The alarm bells were going off, he knew there was going to be a fight and some bloodshed certainly, but to what degree he didn’t know but what he did know what that there was an unseen weapon in the area and near him, as far as he could tell it wasn’t trained on him, but the Force didn’t give you absolutes – what he did know though, he needed to be ready for action. He tensed a little, he couldn’t tell which one of the two before him had the weapon either. Ovinci shifted in his seat in case he needed to make a hasty retreat.

Vale taunted the strange man, but for what purpose he did not know – but he remained silent. Soon though the shot rang out and the rain of blood was apparent. By impulse he leapt over the bar knocking the food and drink to the side, but he didn’t show panic or fear from the shot it was just impulse and tactically sound, some of the blood and oil dribbled onto his cloak, “What in the Sith was that for?! The cleaning bill is going to be outrageous!”

Ovinci narrowed his eyes on Vale as she appeared to have enjoyed what she had just done. A twisted, but prepared mind no doubt; at first, he was slightly confused as to how that happened and then she revealed her weapon. The Jedi Knight’s eyes fell to the weapon and he tilted his head as she ‘cleaned herself up’ he shook his head and looked to his meal, “I was enjoying that too…”

And then she spoke, she requested his assistance with something. Ovinci was not in the game of killing people, that was not his position at all, that was a Sith thing, he only killed if necessary and often would use alternative means. She proved his point, she was bold; after such a display, why did she think he’d help her now?

“If it involves more of that, not likely the thing I want to help with. Like I said before, I’m here for food, beverage, a place to sleep and some fuel to continue on.” Ovinci explained to Vale, “But if it’s something else, I’ll indulge you. Explain to me what you plan to do.”

She let out a small giggle, closing her eyes and tilting her head just as she done previously before opening her eyes to that calm look she's had before. Ovinci was entertaining to say the least as he hadn't provided a dull moment yet really. Was even concerned over his food rather than the display once it was all over. She was glad that he didn't quiver at the sight of blood.

She didn't plan on any of it happening as it had but she expected a confrontation just not at this time.

"I can cover the cleaning if you'd like but you have to promise to take the glass, remember?"

She picked up the Reactor Core souvenir glass with two of her fingers, dangling side to side for a brief moment before placing it down.

She pointed one finger towards her Big Green Friend.

"Come with me."

She walked outside to the back of the establishment, quickly locating the lifeless corpse of the man she had disposed of earlier. His resting place was less than respectable but that's what you usually got when you were on the wrong side when Vale was involved. Durdge had accompanied her, carrying her jacket before she took it from his arms and slid it onto herself, holding her arms for a brief moment as the rest of it slid into place before she knelt down near the body.

"Hmm.. Went out just as you looked. Rather ugly."

She pilfered through the body's coat, sifting about in pockets before she across what she had hoped for. A data-pad! But it was caked with a little bit of blood and oil as she smeared it away. She reached into a pocket of her own coat and fished out a small pen-like device before jacking it into the side of the data-pad. The screen became distorted for a brief moment before returning to normal as she began to explore its contents freely. A few swipes here and there before brining up an image.

"You see this man? His name is Grin. Unsavory as they come. He's been moving guns, droids and contraband through these lands for a little while. He follows a couple routes and my associates have gotten word that they'll be using one near here tonight. Aren't we lucky?"

She smiled wistfully, still looking at the data-pad.

"I want you to help me stop a cargo freighter that's passing through. I have some friends who are waiting, although they won't expect me to be bringing you along but that won't be a problem. They trust me well enough. Have you ever met a Tusken Raider? They're delightful. Such interesting and strange ways. They might even give you a farewell gift for your help!"

She seemed absolutely giddy at the thought.

"That way you'll have two gifts when you leave. I want you to remember me well."

She looked up to Ovinci, still smiling as she was moments ago but the softness returned to her eyes.

“But if I take the glass right now it’ll probably break.” Ovinci began, “Besides if you’re that dead set on me ‘remembering you’ I already have that with the blood in my cloak.”

He stroked his chin as she summoned him to follow her out of the establishment; he really didn’t want to do that – follow the person who just blew the head off someone – but something told him he should anyways, and it wasn’t her or the droid or anyone in the establishment. He shrugged a moment as she turned away from him, he reluctantly followed her to the corpse, “He’s dead. We don’t need another shot – or are you secretly a cannibal and you’re now hungry? If that’s the case I really don’t want to see this…” and then Vale begun rooting through his body, “Great you’re a looter.” The Jedi Knight rolled his eyes and crossed his arms across his chest. And then Vale shoved a datapad in his face.

Grin is his name, must be his pearly whites.

By this time he was fully aware of her Force Sensitivity, the longer they had been near each other the more obvious it became to him, maybe that was what intrigued him and maybe that was his driving force to follow her around for now. Ovinci did not have a student and he didn’t not plan to take a student at this time, he wasn’t about to recruit this killer into the Jedi Order right here, right now. Others might have but he wasn’t going to; the idea of finding a balance or trying to bring in people before the Sith were involved eluded him in his current duties. He was a fighter, not a Jedi Master and not someone looking to actively recruit; if someone wanted to they’d ask him directly – that’s how he liked it.

This Grin she explained was a criminal, arms dealer, smuggler, spice probably. Ovinci shook his head, “No, not lucky.” Was all he could muster; he was naturally just guard right now. This stranger was pulling on him and trying to use him perhaps? He didn’t know her motives. He hadn’t tipped his hood to indicate that he was Force Sensitive, a Force user, or a Jedi so it’s not like she was abusing his station; what more was on her mind?

The conversation was evolving rather odd as well, now she’s talking about Tusken Raiders? By the Force who was this person? “Sand people – those are the things that can’t speak any basic and generally live up to their name 'Raider' aren’t they? They do that… I don’t even know how to describe the sound they make.” He shook his head as he thought about it, especially when she mentioned that they might give him a farewell gift, “A gift? Yea probably a wound or something to that degree.”

“Why have you become so obsessed with me?”
Ovinci breathed, it was a part joke and part serious. She really was pushing that fact that she wanted him to remember her, and he just couldn’t figure it out. He couldn’t figure out why she approached him, why she talked to him, why she chooses to pull him along. Ovinci was no idiot, he truly didn’t believe that she was making sexual advances toward him, but she was definitely making advances and he didn’t know what her game was. Vale as alluded to being an 'entrepreneur' of sorts – and he knew what that meant. She had her eye on the long game here on this desert rock.

Naturally, a ‘normal’ Jedi would likely ask her why she wanted him to help her, a Jedi would likely say no, a Jedi might ask why he should even help her given the grand scheme of everything and what she might have her eye on in the future. But Ovinci was not a normal Jedi, not by a long shot. Vale was giving him an adventure and that would likely be his biggest weakness, adventuring. Tales of heroic nature? He privately shared a laugh with himself at that thought, he was no hero, and this was not going to be some hero’s errand. Ovinci shrugged and replied finally, “Meh. Why not?”

She looked up to him once more and smile with her eyes closed.

"Because I like you."

The expression stayed briefly before she stood up, leaving the data-pad at the body's side as she looked over it once more. Her expression was merely blank as she looked back to Ovinci.

"Don't worry, I'll have him buried properly. It's the least he deserves."

Just as she finished her sentence, a hover-vehicle approached. Sleek in its design and stylized off designs of old. A call back to a time where many vehicles used wheels of rubber. They were still in but not like this kind of vehicle it was built to pay homage to. Silver trim and a small crest upon the hood to give a clear indicator of a famous manufacturer who produced luxury vehicles. All windows were tinted pitch black as well. Although it was on auto pilot, a door to the rear facing them whisked open with her droid, Durdge emerging from inside before it approached the two of them.

"Your side-arm ma'am."

He presented her revolver, also slick in design and also another manufactured product to pay homage to a particular style found in those who preferred the look of an outlaw. Those who liked big brimmed hats and wore bandanas to obscure their faces. A true classic look. Along with her revolver was a chest harness to allow her to holster her weapon underneath her coat and pull it at a moment's notice just in case.

"Good boy. My little bar is stocked too?"

The droid nodded slightly.

"Wonderful! Let's get going then. You'll be able to relax a bit. By the way, do you need something to protect yourself? I never asked what your profession. Are you a monk of sorts?"

As she was finishing the question she slid into the vehicle and moved all the way to the right so her Big Green friend would have plenty of room to rest himself. The vehicles' engine whirled to a steady drone as it lifted lightly and began to cruise along the side, kicking up dust in their wake. The interior was dimly lit, red velveted floor and panels while the rest was a cooled black leather. Cushioned too. The ride was going to take a while, so she relaxed and leaned herself on the door next to her, propping her elbow on the window sill, gazing out at the night sky which full of brilliant stars at this time of night.

Ovinci’s only response to her comment was a shrug. For some unknown reason, this stranger has taken a liken to him; perhaps he was just the likable sort. So far though, despite her attraction to him he really didn’t have much opinion on Vale, she was still a stranger to him and shall remain as such for a time – so far, all he gathered is that she can be ruthless, and she has some connection to the Force – though she may not know it and has no proper control of it just yet, untrained after all; further he had no comment regarding her thought to bury the strange metal man.

A vehicle seemed to materialize out of thin air and caught him a little off guard. He hadn’t expected some random hover-vehicle to approach them. A rather curious looking vehicle, completely different for the average speeder or even luxurious speeder he had come across. There was a certain craftmanship to it, but he couldn’t put his finger on it; the what appeared to be wheels confused him. He’d never known a speeder to have any kind of wheel, heck even the controls were not a wheel – they were a set of joysticks. He had started to get a bit of a bad feeling about all of this – but he was an idiot for adventure.

Some random hunk of bolts approached them as a kind of butler. The droid reminded him of some kind of protocol droid; but it wasn’t such a droid it showed signs of a combat-oriented droid; Ovinci watched the droid turn over a weapon of some kind to Vale; a weapon that did not appear like any blaster or slugthrower that he was aware. Vale continued to conjure up a variety of odd things, it left the Jedi a little struck as the variety of things accompanied her. This droid also acted very much like a personal servant.

Ovinci almost didn’t hear Vale when she spoke up about his weapon and his profession. The Jedi Knight just looked at Vale with a coy. “Nope. Don’t need any protection.” He spoke with a noticeable confidence, he’d be just fine; lightsaber stowed safely away and the Force at his back, he didn’t need anything else. “Certainly, I belong to a cloister of celibate Monks, who wander the galaxy, aimlessly looking for damsel in distress in long forgotten places; we’re also a bunch of fashion models you see. How’s it looking?” Ovinci joked before providing a real answer, “My profession is adventurer and protector – after all, that’s how I got here right?”

Although proud of his lineage and his vocation as a Jedi Knight, he wasn’t the arrogant sort that would brag about it. Vale would find out soon enough, but he’d hold of and that reveal for as long as possible. Even if they got into a fight in the next few hours, he’d still try to solve it before the fight actually broke out. Ovinci liked adventure and accepted the need to kill, but he never went looking for that.

He explained his vocation as he climbed in the back of the vehicle; he was still in the presence of someone he didn’t trust implicitly and therefore could not bring himself to actually rest but he was relaxed enough that he sensed no imminent danger; although he was starting to get drowsy as he’d been up for a while, he quickly curb that sensation and look by summoning small doses of the Force to keep him alert and awake; he had done something similar to this back when he worked as a healer in the temples during the occasional emergency situation, so he was no stranger to it… although once this day was done, he’d definitely enjoy some exceptional sleep aboard his ship, one of the few places he truly felt safe.

“What are we doing exactly? Are you going to detach a few more skulls or something?”

The vehicle hummed along as it glided over dunes and valleys of sand, blowing dust about behind them as they made their way further into the night. It seemed as if they were going nowhere as the land stretched forth with not a single remarkable sight to behold. Simply just more sand.

"Ah.. Cloistered monk who doesn't need protection. I've never heard that before. As for your fashion, it's simple. But I think it could use some flair personally. But that's just me."

She never turned her head away from looking outside the window.

"I certainly hope this was along the lines of your adventure seeking. Running away with a woman in the night you just met after previously having just watched her end a man's life."

She let out a very small and brief sigh.

"You know, it's funny. I didn't feel a single thing back there when I shot him. Maybe I'm not supposed to feel anything. After all, he was going to try and hurt us. But I've heard so much that if you take someone's life that it changes you. I don't feel any different at all. Why do you think that is Ovinci?"

Now she turned away from the window, laying herself against the seat but also letting her head rest against the seating cushion. Turning to face him as her head followed slowly and loosely. The moon light that managed to peer through the auto-tinted windows obscured much of her face, although one side was still visible enough. The eye he would be able to see would appear to be without emotion. Vacant even. Just as what would be visible of her lips, simply without expression. She heard his question about what they would be doing but it could wait a little longer. She wanted to hear what he had to say in earnest. This was the first time in a long time that she sat down with someone and spoke amicably about anything that wasn't small talk or business. She was sharing even if it wasn't clear to Ovinci just yet.

“Well, you know I might talk their ear off first.” Ovinci stated before she had a chance to continue her conversation about him finding adventure, he really didn’t offer any response to her question of whether or not this was considered an adventure to him.

He took a further moment to assess her question and comment about the taking of life. He knew the act quite well, though he’d never taken an innocent life he knew others sometimes to that. The Jedi Knight didn’t assume this man was innocent or anything, nor did he assume she’d stolen the life of innocent folk, he didn’t know, and he wasn’t about to make that assessment of someone he’d just met. The question she asked was not a simple question, it was a heavy question. Any Jedi keen on philosophical debate would love to enter this discussion; he had to consider his words carefully as he wasn’t quite sure how to respond.

“Death.” He began, “Death is a natural thing. No matter the paths you or I take, it shall always be met, eventually by death. It is inevitable. For some, death is like moving on, it is depicted as the end of a story. Eventually we all met it, and when we do it cannot be avoided. Each person has an expected end, for some it is much sooner than others. You worked in the will of the galaxy, perhaps it was their time, and it was destined for you to carry out such a task.”

Ovinci knew one thing as he was answering, he maybe talking in circles or he may even be dodging the answer. That was common, “Some cope with such a task easier than others. You did not feel a thing perhaps because you did not have any ties. Your mind bound to a fight or flight response, as you perceived, they were a risk, a potential harm to you so the next thought is I must act before they do. For you, to rationalize is to cope.”

“The Sith hold little regard for life. The Jedi revere life. The Syndicates exploit opportunity and do it with survival mentality. The Rangers protect life. Though each has a different reason, the common theme is survival, and it is what people turn to for explanation and comfort. Why you don’t feel it is beyond me, it is just the way it was wired I suppose, or maybe it was as I said – no ties and it was necessary. Over time, there maybe weight to it all but I cannot say, it is not my position to make such a prediction or call; so yes, over time it can change someone.”
Ovinci paused a moment, “There is a difference though, a difference between enjoying killing someone and not feeling anything.” He spoke softly, calmly.

A difference between the enjoyment of taking a life and not feeling anything at all. She wondered to herself if perhaps they were simply one in the same regard as they were both heinous in their own rights. Though the question did not pull at her mind to truly cause her any real distress, she just wanted to contemplate it for once. To her own credit, she felt that at the very least the contemplation meant she cared. Though how much was up for debate in the end.

"Thank you Ovinci but if I had to guess, you sound just like a Jedi."

By the time Ovinci would turn to her, he would see that her eyes were now clearly locked on to his own when he'd turn her away. The piercing gold seemed to be filled with an intensive gaze that sought to penetrate his mind yet no psychic attack was occurring. Perhaps a mind game? Maybe an attack for the sake of intimidation. Was she looking for him to say yes or no to the statement?

"See? You are interesting."

The sentence ended with a fleeting smile as she returned her gaze to the window, looking outside.

"Oh look, we've arrived and our friends are here too."

The vehicle slowed down with a droning hum that resided more and more before it planted itself firmly on the sand beneath them. The door hissed open as the wind blew about, sand being kicked up even inside the car as she departed outside with her coat blowing in the wind.

Outside the vehicle were a group of Tusken Raiders, varying in sizes and heights but all of them carrying various weapons that would be considered archaic by the modern day standards. Ballistic weapons were considered widely ineffective by most standards but they did have the advantage of being able to cheaply make and acquire. Although some didn't carry these outdated weapons, some were busy setting up a mounted gattling laser, a total of five barrels that reached from the end to the base of the weapon. Loaded with a hose that connected to the main power house for the weapon's energy source.

So long as the box had juice, the weapon would fire and unleash a devastating a barrage on anyone unfortunate to be on the receiving end.

Two of the Raiders were busy laying out a cloth tarp, aligning various pieces of explosive ordinance. Specifically a single rocket launcher that had seen better days in terms of the wear and tear that was all over the exterior. The other piece of equipment of note was a mortar, also a piece of dated equipment but able to launch explosives at a great distance while remaining at a safe distance from the little foxhole next to them. Vale walked up quietly to the group that was 9 strong, many of them simply examining their weapons while one stood to greet her.

The lead Raider's head was adorned with various horns of creatures that he had killed and instead of the usual tan color that their robes had, his were black, furthering his status as their leader. Vale merely stood and listened as the Tusken Leader made all kinds of various grunts and gurgles at her, nodding along silently as she listened before turned back to Ovinci, waving him to follow at his earliest convenience.

Proceeding to the nearby cliff edge that overlooked a canyon that ran along a diagonal line to their position, she surveyed the long stretch of road that was nestled within the canyon itself. More Tusken Raiders were situated along the outer cliff edges of the canyon at various positions and elevations, all of them waiting for their targets to arrive.

"This is where Grin will meet his demise, Ovinci. He'll be caught between the gun fire that I'll order to start once his convoy enters about a quarter of the way through the canyon. I want you to take position on the gattling laser and simply aim down at the convoy but only fire when I say "bang". Do you think you can do that for me? Remember that you're here to help put a stop to this man who is hurting others."

She never turned to look at Ovinci as she spoke, only looking onward as the sun was beginning to rise in the distance over the canyon.

"When you pull those triggers.. Don't let go for about a minute. The barrel will begin to overheat to let you know that the battery needs to take a moment to breathe. There is switch a couple inches away from the triggers, it's got an orange rubber tip to it. Flip it once you let off the triggers and it'll flush the heating inside the battery to cool it down so you can start again. Rinse and repeat."

Her eyes faltered a bit, looking down to the canyon.

"Don't stop until I say so. They're going to shoot back and I don't want to see you get hurt. After all, we have to get your souvenir shot glass before you leave, okay?"

She looked to him now, a half hearted smile born across her lips.

"Cloistered Monk." Was his only response.

He held his gaze and refused to surrender it. Ovinci does not intimidate easily and her act of staring at him did nothing. A Jedi's mind was clear, in and out of combat. He provided no waiver and no further response. Her decision was her own.

She eventually broke the gaze and continued on.

Landing, he removed himself from the transport, he didn't say anything more and took a few moments to survey the area and the friends she spoke of. To see tuksen raiders not being savage was something else. He didn't address them and instead simply watched as the female spoke with them. He noted the instrument of death being set up but provided no commentary.

The Jedi Knight followed over to the edge of the cliff and looked down, he listened to her direction and the only thing he said was "No." As he turned away and began walking away from the scene.

It was a calculated word, he had surveyed his competition and noted that the only true competitor here was Vale, and even then he was confident enough that his own training with the Force and a lightsaber she'd be no match for him - but he didn't think she'd challenge him either. He could massacre the raiders out of defense if they wanted to attack him. Not only would he save himself, but whoever this Grin was would be spared.

"Vale, I do not relish killing anyone, criminal or not. I will not be an instrument of your revenge and your petty rivalry with this man. You've enough force to carry out your own revenge without me. I am no Ranger, I've no quarms with you and I don't carry out arrests on scoundrels like yourself." The phrase 'scoundrel' was not intended as an insult but instead as a classification for her. She was a criminal looking to build an empire, this was a Rangers duty not a Jedi's duty.

"I bid you farewell. I will not bare witness to this nor will I assist. I do not relish the death of others nor do I do it just for the sake of killing I kill only as a necessity and of defense and protection. I've no quarms or proof of this man's doings either. I am a protector and I will say nothing more. Take this as a warning, protect your little town because it won't be under the radar forever."

Ovinci knew that there was going to be a fight for this Grin but he was not expecting a massacre involving explosives; further he is a Jedi and Jedi don't typically interfere with the galaxies politics, and this was a form of that. The galaxy was in balance as far as Ovinci saw it. She operated in the underworld, but she had a balance for her actions somewhere - either rival, current or future, or Ranger; just as she balanced Grin.

He kept his wits about him as he walked away and kept access to the hilt open should he need the quick draw - though he did not have it out just yet.

The Tusken Raiders finished their set up for the attack, guns loaded, turret switched on and the hose fastened into the power supply. They moved into their positions with not a word to one another and set their sights on the valley below. In the distance a loud rumbling of speeders could be heard as well as dust being thrown into the air from the dispersal of their hovering mechanisms. But one of the sounds was much louder than the rest. It was the transport and it was on time just as anticipated. Though it be a couple more minutes before they could execute their, Vale listened to her Big Green Friend as he stated his disagreement with her actions. Scoundrel? She squinted her eyes briefly. It wasn't a glare but the word caught her by surprise, after all, she had been cordial throughout their time together and she thought their relationship to be slightly better than to resort to such terms. Yet she respected his decision even if she was disappointed. Cloistered monk and a refusal to do harm to others.

He spoke of only killing out of necessity and that he was a protector. She smiled as he turned away.

"Never thought I'd meet a Jedi."

Her tone was flat and without any indication of her feelings on him being Jedi. Although she hadn't seen a lightsaber and it was particularly a guess, she wanted to know if he'd dispute her claim. As the words left her mouth some of the Tusken Raiders quietly turned their heads to look at Ovinci and stared. They made no sudden movements but it was obvious that it piqued their interest. Vale turned her own back to the Raiders and simply gazed at them which prompted them to slowly turn away in the opposite direction and focused on the matter at hand before she looked back to Ovinci.

"There's no revenge happening here. Just a man whose meddling where he shouldn't. The people of Zendella look to me to save what's left of their little settlement. Without me they'll be forgotten and fade away into the dunes of this planet. Is that so bad? To want to save what's left of them and grow them into something wonderful? They'll be mine and I will always take care of them."

She uttered the last words of ownership with a delightful smile even if the context seemed completely eschewed from her expression. The loud engines of the speeders and their transport drew close to their destination, the Raiders readied their weapons now with full intent to carry out their mission.

"I hope I meet you again one day. We could share a dinner together. I'll treat you to somewhere nice."

Vale kept her soft smile as she looked at Ovinci. The turret revved with energy, the power supply humming louder and louder as the rustling of guns from all the Raiders could be heard as they took aim at the convoy entered the valley. They met the quarter mark and immediately without even looking Vale whispered her hallmark phrase as she kept her smile with her eyes sweetly looking at Ovinci.

"Bang."

The hail of gunfire rung out with a thunderous roar, the turret rattling off with a crackling spitfire that rained down volleys of blaster fire. The sun was dawning as the assault continued but there was still enough darkness to allow the flashes of light from the gunfire to light up the scene behind her as it occasionally illuminated her face with that smile still kept for Ovinci.
