Farlink Station was an oddity if there every was one. Years ago it had been built along the crude hyperspace lanes and it had done nothing but blossom ever since. The fact that it was stationed near perfectly between Alliance and Empire space made it uniquely suited to serving customers coming and going. The owners of Farlink made it clear that their station was, as a privately owned business entity, strictly neutral ground. They made no bones about whether their customers were Imperial or Alliance-- so long as the credits were good.
For the most part, their policies weren't any of Alya's concern. The fact that they could repair her rented cruiser was, hence why she had pulled into the massive facility. After taking out a dock rental and explaining to the mechanic on duty what the problem was with the main hyperdrive (and how to fix it for that matter) Alya wandered away from the docking spaces and towards the shopping district.
It didn't take her long to spot a row of holonet stations. She chose one of the booths, took out payment for a voice-only call, and dialed up her quarters. This wrinkle in her plans was going to have to be accounted for.
While the computer labored to put her connection through, Alya's eyes drifted to the map pinned to the back of her little booth. Farlink Station was comprised of three main zones: the docking zone, the refueling zone, and the economic zone. The little star affixed to the map indicated that she was standing in the economic zone and it proudly listed all of the different shopping attractions on the area. It wasn't anything that she didn't already know.
A voice came across the comm link, pulling Alya's attention away from the map and to the task at hand. It was a quiet and whispery voice, one that she had heard countless times throughout the years: "Mistress Alya Vin's residence. Mistress Vin is not present at the moment, may I take a message?"
"It's me, Edel." Alya's tone indicated that there was no need for formalities. "Listen, the main hyperdrive gave out on the cruiser; it'll be a few hours before these Farlink mechanics can fix it. Cancel the dinner plans and do not wait up for me."
"I understand, Mistress." Her servant's voice indicated no displeasure at the change of plans.
"None. Take the night off and enjoy yourself. I'll be back as soon as I can." Alya's eyes fell on the holonet meter and she bit back a curse. "My time's up. I'll return as soon as I can."
She hung up before the computer's software decided to charge her for extra time and then left the little hut behind. Her steps carried her across the polished metal floor, in an aimless direction, and into the thick of the shops and stalls; there was nowhere to be and nothing to do but waste time... for the moment, anyway.
