Hannibal gave Rick a look. What standards did this strange, large boat-maker think that he had? Which he uttered in the same breath as calling him a hillbilly again. The Jedi took another drag of his cigarra, a wry expression forming on his features.

"Personally I'm hopin' for river eels." Grilled eel was one of his favourites in fact, especially with a basic sauce, although that'd probably be a skipped step in the middle of the mountains even if there were any. Ray and laa weren't bad either but, as Rick said, maybe there were others further upstream?

"You've got an odd expectation of my standards, my man," he commented but said no more of it, only chuckling a little as he looked out over the water. The muscular boatman's method of moving his craft using the Force was kind of fun to observe in its own way. Hannibal couldn't deny it was less work than working sails or rowing oars and allowed for maximum relaxation on the journey. He'd have to remember that trick.

Unfortunately he wasn't paying full attention when Rick mentioned starfruit pie. He turned and blinked, then his brows rose up as the words registered in a coherent order. Was he playing a game now? Hannibal grinned and tapped his cybernetic twice on the wood instead of raising his hand or something similar.

"Never have I ever eaten plain buttered noodles."

“There it is,” He stated as soon as the man mentioned eels casually as if it were something readily available. Nabooians were so snobby they never realized when they came across that way. Eels were considered a delicacy here and were certainly not readily available. Emryc had a grin on his face at the comment about standards. The half Sephi exhaled smoke, "No eels here, pretty boy."

He tapped the boat in response to the game, “Best way to eat noodles,” He declared. Emryc pondered for a moment, blowing smoke rings into the air that would drift over towards Hillbilly given the nature of their boat moving along.

The scenery began to pass them by, woodland animals lining the riverbank and eyeing them curiously. Exotic birds were perched along lush trees and there were other villages that could be seen in the distance. There were no sounds of speeders or a busy city anywhere. It was simply the sounds of birds, the rustling of the wind and very distant noises of any villagers that came out to collect water.

“Never actually went camping before,” He said after a while. Emryc had improvised on different trips to find shelter during missions, but he had never done the proper tent and fire setup.

Hannibal clicked his tongue in mock disappointment. "Shame." To be fair river eels tended to be a pain to catch and he doubted fisherfolk would see them much what with all the hiding in sand and mud during the day. "Kinda fun to catch by hand." Then again he was almost certain Rick would have an aversion to handling slimy wriggly things so uh... maybe not.

Although Rick apparently enjoyed buttered noodles. Hannibal had to wonder what was up with that. The boatman's food preferences were fairly restrictive even if he'd opted for a little bit of heat added after the fact, but still. There had to be alternatives.

"I prefer fried with mushrooms myself."

Casually, little flickers of the Force and a waving mechanical hand stopped the rings in front of him. Hannibal carefully maintained their integrity and kept them in place, gathered together into a tunnel of rings. He inhaled smoke from his cigarra and blew it out again through pursed lips, twisting and shaping itself into the form of a sailing ship that floated serenely between the rings. All together the constructed thing was let free to float away from the two men and over the water where it steadily disintegrated without the Jedi's influence.

Emeralds turned to look out over the landscape. He was just as taken in by it as he was during the last trip, a small smile settlign over his features as he took in the sounds of birds, gathered deer, and general abundance of natural life. Hannibal waved cheerily toward a pair of folks gathering water from the river and their daughter waved back with a stick she'd been flipping over rocks with.

"Huh. I have." He paused and tapped the boat, unsure if they were still actually playing. "Not all of those trips were uh... Fun, though." Hannibal made a face, mostly to himself considering his company, and tapped a foot idly against the side of the boat for a few seconds.

"Never have I ever pretended to be sick for attention."

Seemed a common enough kind of thing, right?

Emryc said nothing about fried mushrooms. He was too inept with cooking and food to know what ingredients went with what. He usually left all that up to… The half Sephi exhaled, jaw tightening slightly as he forced himself to focus on the vague outline of the shape the man sent through his rings. It oddly reminded him of a Holomovie he had seen before. He made a mental note to make Morgan watch it with him one day. Extended edition.

The half Sephi drew from his cigarra again, “Can’t imagine anyone putting up with your accent for too long without getting violent,” He stated casually. He had a vague mental image of choking the man’s neck with his hand that began as humorous and soon switched to other connotations. Emryc subtly shifted and adjusted his pants slightly.

He thought for a moment before tapping the side of the boat. Emryc had shamelessly pretended to feel unwell to have Morgan tend to him more than was ever necessary. He would do it again in a heartbeat. Of course, Emryc stated nothing aloud about this.

“Never have I ever outright lied,” He omitted or avoided answering things. But he never knowingly stated lies. It was a fact that most in his life would find shocking.

Hannibal chuckled lightly at Rick mentioning his accent. Personally he thought his mother's was stronger than his but he may be a bit biased on the matter. He looked over at the other man as he shifted his stance a bit and moved around a little himself to get more comfortable in his little corner of the boat, leaning his head up against the side as he watched the smoke boat become a formless cloud and then disappear entirely.

"Well ya haven't killed me yet," he replied with clear amusement in his voice, "But there's still time, so we'll see eh?"

His brows rose as the boatman tapped the boat. Hannibal wondered at the context of the larger man doing that but wasn't about to pry into it. Could just be to get sympathy soup from the other villagers or something, but somehow he got the impression Rick tolerated their attention more than sought it out out. He shrugged to himself and set it aside.

Hannibal tapped the side of the boat a second after Rick continued the game. Like the other man he elected not to elaborate on the specifics for his own reasons. Beyond his work, where deception was sometimes needed, there were things he just chose to deal with himself.

The half Sephi grinned wider when the Jedi tapped the boat. A Sith that was more honest than a Jedi. If only the man knew...

Emryc’s eyebrows furrowed almost immediately at the man’s next comment. Was he purposely choosing exceptionally stupid things to play the game with? He didn’t tap the boat because he too didn’t switch salt and sugar. Although...that may prove more difficult to avoid being blind.

“Either you have done a lot of interesting things, or you are terribly boring,” The half Sephi was inclined to believe the latter and decided he didn't want to suffer more of his far too innocuous game suggestions. He had a vague sense of where they were and could begin to make out the outlines of mountains in the distance. The boat began to slow down until he stopped it, positioning them further away from the village than they had been so far.

“Should be a decent spot,” Emryc said as he retrieved his fishing pole and began to put on a lure. There were ripples in the water near them already to suggest that there were plenty of fish around. This area was far away from any villages or people, and it was much quieter out here.

Hannibal grinned and shrugged his shoulders a little and then tapped a bit of cigarra ash into his portable ashtray. The truth was funnily complicated in a way that the young Jedi felt no need elaborate on, context upon context. Rick's commentary wasn't exactly wrong from a certain point of view.

"Could be both, y'know."

Emeralds looked around as the craft came to a steady halt and he sat up where he was to peak over the wooden sides. It was nice here but in a different sort of way than it was in the village or the flowering fields. Mountains loomed in the distance capped with white and doubtless the source of all this water. The two men were fairly far from the villages and people now and Hannibal found a sense of peace in the abundance of nature.

Sure Rick was still here but that was only one guy who he wasn't getting impressions off anyway. Perfectly fine.

He picked up his rod and extended it, slowly attaching a lure with his cybernetic hand. For him it was a left-handed task and luckily if there was a slip he suspected the fingers were a bit more durable than the hook. By the time he got it set the boatmaker would already have gotten started, no doubt.

"I'll trust your judgement on fishin' in this place, then."

Naturally the Jedi took the opposite side of the boat to avoid and crossed lines, checked behind himself, and cast out a reasonable distance.

Emryc cast his line out as well, “Well at least you’re not too bad in bed,” He grumbled quietly with the e-cigarra hanging from the corner of his lips. Fishing was one of those things that was done through feeling, and it was something he had come to enjoy quite a bit.

The time on the boat was peaceful and relaxed. It was entirely removed from Jedi, Sith and their wars. He could hear the birds, feel the rustling wind, the warmth of the sun. He could make out the shapes of the mountains. Memories of space stations and cramped spaces faded in and out of his thoughts.

It was difficult to keep track of time as the day blended together, but Emryc had learned to count the hours almost subconsciously. The two men caught several fish, though they only briefly spoke. Very few words were needed. There was a comfortable silence that they could both exist in, and Emryc was privately impressed the man could simply enjoy the sounds around him.

After a while, he could tell it was getting close to sundown, also from the way the air began to feel slightly cooler. Emryc drew his line in and moved the bucket of fish out of the way.

He began to move the boat again and approach towards the mountain and their campsite. However, Emryc positioned it in a way that put his back against where the sun was setting so the other man could see beyond him.

The view was a spectacular display of the setting sun between two mountains. The sky was a kaleidoscope of colors and more vibrant than almost anywhere else in the galaxy. Stars were already visible along with the purples, pinks, blues and even outlines of some other planets could be seen. The entire sky looked like a perfect painting set in the backdrop of the shimmering, snow capped mountaintops that reflected the light.

Emryc, of course, could see none of this. He busied himself rowing the boat and guiding it along a river. It was the longer way to the site in question, but it would get them there.

Rick's grumbling got a short chuckle out of the Jedi even if he wasn't entirely sure what he'd actually said. Pretty sure he'd heard the word 'bed' and he could maybe guess what was around it and that was close enough to be funny.

Rather than the typical still meditation Hannibal had always found his focus and sense of serenity through moving or tasks. Here the act of fishing served that purpose, doubtless part of why he wasn't terribly talkative as the hours ticked peacefully by. His presence was as breezy and relaxed as he and their environment was as the two men cast out lines, sat around, smoked, and reeled in a few fish.

Before he knew it the sun was already dipping low toward the horizon. As if waking up he suddenly noticed the cooled air and looked over toward the mountains. Hannibal retrieved his line and placed the rod down, standing fully and stretching himself with a popping of joints. The boat began to move again under Rick's will and the Jedi initially paid it little mind, just taking in scenery that looked different under new light, but then it moved in a very particular way.

A mesmerizing sunset washed over the two men and the boat. It painted everything in colour from beyond the mountains. Glimmering points of light and distant shapes twinkled and shone like diamonds in the sky, everything reflected in bright green eyes that widened in wonder at the sight. It reminded him of home in a way while still being very different, of the many colours that had inspired the robes he often wore and brought a wide, warm smile to the young man's face and an easily detectable sense of quiet joy.

"Well Rick, you were right about the sunset."

Hannibal thought to himself it might even beat out a Naboo sunset. Emeralds looked to consider Rick and the way he'd arranged himself and the boat to allow Hannibal to see the sunset he'd mentioned much earlier in the day, just rowing away down the river toward their destination. The stoic boatman was even going out of his way to share something he couldn't experience himself. Hannibal blinked.

"You want to see it too? Seems only fair."

Emryc could feel the sun against his back, the warmth comforting against the cooling winds around him. He had a vague idea of where to turn from having committed the shapes to memory. Emryc heard the man speak, hearing a tone of wonder in his voice that hadn’t been there before. The half Sephi only grunted in response, silently continuing what he was doing.

After a moment, the man offered to let him see it. Emryc considered this for a while, his mind diving into many thoughts at once. There was pain in him that would be difficult to suppress even with the barriers in his mind. There was that reminder that his world was entirely black. There was that reminder of all the times he never bothered to look at the skies, the stars, the galaxy around him. He had spent every moment in ships and buildings.

He never took Renfry and her appreciation for nature and the outside seriously. He never considered the earth, trees, flowers, sunsets, sunrises, any of it. Because he believed it would always be there. Because he believed he would always be able to see it. Just as surely as he would be able to see Morgan’s fanged smile and the softness in his eyes every day until the day he died. Just as surely as he would be able to see the vast oceans of Manaan, or the thick forests of Kashyyyk. He thought it would always be there, and he had taken it all for granted.

Emryc’s jaw tightened slightly, but he kept rowing without faltering. There was a quiet exhale before he spoke, “No,” He said curtly, “You will not be able to do it justice,” He added before quieting down. The waves of pain were sharp and biting before it was abruptly controlled and locked down almost in impressively strict fashion. The man would be able to experience all of it along with the rigid control Emryc had over his emotions.

The boat finally arrived at the site and led into the riverbank with a soft nudge. Emryc stepped out and took a stake to the ground to help anchor the boat. He grabbed his things and stood on the bank.

“Pick a spot,” He called out to the man. Seeing outlines of shapes didn’t exactly help in picking out a campsite.

The change in the air after the Jedi's offer came quickly and with how closed off Rick was he hadn't expected it. Pain radiated him from him with a strength and intensity that surprised Hannibal, almost recoiling from the sudden sensation. It was clearer than all the other times something had found its way through the complex maze the boatman had in his mind, deeper and multi-faceted. It was all pain but it wasn't all the same.

Colours wandered across the Jedi's vision and he frowned as he looked at Rick, bathed in the warm shades of the setting sun. It was as if time stood still for just that moment, the flash of feeling drawing the young empath's attention even more than the breaths of wind or scattered birdsong or the rush of river water. It ran likes minute knives down his spine, piercing, dragging with it other sensations that lived for the briefest possible moment amidst the chaotic jumble.

The ghost of fingertips feather-light on skin and a distant chill, a twinge of ache through mechanical fingers. Whispers just beneath the range of hearing he couldn't make out. Yellow that he almost didn't notice mixed in with the colours splashed across the boat and its occupants, reflecting off the glimmering surface of the water and casting strange reflections through the trees.

Just as quickly as it came it was gone as Rick shut it all down, abrupt and iron-willed. Hannibal's senses returned to the breaths of wind and scattered birdsong, the rush of river water, the boatman having never stopped rowing even for a moment. Rick's face had barely changed at all but his reply had been almost sharp, absolute, just as his grip on his emotions was. While he didn't understand what all that he'd felt really meant he did understand that doing what Rick did was an impressive and disciplined thing. It was something he could never quite do himself even before what allowed him to try had still been a part of him.

Emeralds looked at him for a few seconds without speaking with an expression wide-eyed, thoughtful, and sad. The two of them simply listened a while to the creaking wood and press of the oars through the water.

"No," he said at last with a soft sigh. "I cannot."

Hannibal stood slowly from where he sat as the boat reached the shore, picking up his duffel and shrugging it over his shoulder. He hopped off the craft onto dark soil, snapping a small, dry twig as he landed. Emeralds looked around for a moment before the man walking forward, brushing aside a stray branch from an old tree and rustling through plant life as he scouted the area.

He stopped in a clearing coated in forest grasses and fallen leaves, a log being steadily overtaken by climbing vines off to the side by the treeline. It was relatively flat and even, away from the dip toward the river. A trail of crushed vegetation and dirt suggested wild game sometimes wandered nearby. Hannibal turned back toward the boat and noted he could still see it in the distance anchored to shore by Rick.

"I like this spot here," he declared and dropped his duffel by the log, already wandering off toward the edge. "Gonna find some wood."

Emryc realized quickly that setting up a tent while blind was all but impossible. However, his obnoxiously patient habits were coming through as he continued to attempt over and over again. Hans had returned with wood and Emryc still hadn’t made any progress, but there were some vague stakes on the ground.

When the wood was there, the half Sephi decided that he was perhaps more use there. He walked over and arranged the wood for a fire. He was once again privately thankful that he didn’t need to explain his Force use, calling it forth to ignite a small flame.

A crude pan was brought out, along with some local spices and ingredients that the villagers often used. Within moments, Emryc had slapped a seasoned fish on the pan and began to cook it over the fire.

Night had set in by then, the stars spreading out for miles. Entire galaxies and planets were visible above them. The sounds of bugs and critters were soon joined by the sizzling of fish cooking, along with a surprisingly delicious smell as Emryc squeezed some lemon on it. Though not a cook by any means, Emryc had come a long way with food since his MRE days.

Hannibal stepped back into the cozy clearing, appearance preceded by crunching undergrowth and of course his breezy presence in the Force. He couldn't help a sheepish grin that found itself on his face when he saw the state of the tent Rick was working on. Best not to assume he couldn't do the tent but in hindsight it was obviously something he should have asked beforehand.

While Rick took over the wood and fire-making, a flicker of the Force making it much easier, the Jedi busied himself with the tent instead. First he made sure the stakes were firmly enough in the ground, using his cybernetic to get one a little more in there, and then started figuring out the dimensions and everything of the boatman's tent.

Somewhere during this process the smell of seasoned fish floated over shortly after a sizzling sound. Hannibal moved a bit of the tent around to secure something and looked over with interest. It was quite a sight, actually, the flickering fire and smoke reflecting off the larger man to the backdrop of shadowed woods and the blue-black sky above, twinkling with uncountable numbers of far away stars. An owl hooted somewhere off he couldn't see from where he was.

At the point lemon joined the cooking party Hannibal determined he should probably get back to what he was doing. He scooted himself to one side of the tent and cheated a bit, using the Force to lift up the frame and securing it to the stakes by hand before adding the rain cover. The Jedi stood up, stretched, made his way over to the fire, and sat himself down in the grass.

"Tent's up."

And immediately the smoke seemed to turn and hit him in the face. Hannibal scooted elsewhere, coughing slightly.

"We sharing or am I making my own? Personally, I like the way you're doing it."

Emryc was privately relieved that Hans chose to put up the tent instead. He cooked in silence for a while, moving the fish around in the pan. He had to rely on counting time and smell to tell when it was done. He heard the Jedi’s question and it gave him pause. He hadn’t banked on anyone actually wanting to eat his food.

He resumed cooking in silence before he flopped the cooked fish over to a plate and floated it towards the man’s general direction. Emryc then got to cooking his own. The smoke began to trail towards him, but he was un-bothered by it.

Emryc plated his own fish before digging around for some silverware. He tossed some over to the man and began to eat.

A distant meteor shower erupted above them across the spectacular sky, just behind the dark outlines of the mountains. The howls of wolves could be heard in the very far distance, along with the critters that usually came out at night.

Emryc’s thoughts were elsewhere as he ate, though his keen ears twitched every now and then from every new sound. He reached around for the bottles of water he had packed, opening one for himself and tossing another to the man.

Hannibal took the proffered plate in his living hand, smelling the cooked fish and nodding appreciatively. The briefly cooked lemon came through well, he thought, especially considering the setting. It mixed nicely with the wood smoke and seasoning. A simple dish but good all the same.

"Thanks."

The Jedi had to move seats again as the smoke seemed to follow him yet again, cybernetic waving through it as he scooted even further to the left around the fire until he was on the opposite side from the larger man. A second bit of fish was cooked as well and Hannibal watched more closely this time, curiously watching how he handled the process.

He finished up with that portion and passed out silver. Hannibal took a moment to get it arranged properly in his metal hand and took a bit of the flakey, steaming fish and put in his mouth. It was really quite good, actually, and the crackling fire along with the sounds of wildlife and wind through trees around them really put him in the proper camping mood. Even with his lack of understanding of this strange boatman he'd just recently met, or perhaps because of it in some ways, it was immensely relaxing.

A flicker of will caught the bottle of water and set it down and Hannibal took another bite before gulping some the liquid down.

"For a guy who doesn't do romance," he said after a little while. "You've sure found a hell of a place for that kinda thing."

Emeralds turned to look at Rick's face through the flickering light of the campfire and stayed there as he took another bite of fish.

Emryc heard Hans shuffle around almost to an obnoxious degree. The smoke didn’t bother him, and he couldn’t understand why the man kept fidgeting and shifting so much. The half Sephi kept his thoughts to himself, quietly eating his dinner and sipping from his water. The smell of the burning wood and the distant sounds of critters were oddly soothing. It was even more soothing than the gentle whirring of a ship.

In standard military fashion as always, it took him only a few minutes to finish his meal. Emryc was gulping down some water when the man spoke. This brought a half grin as he set the bottle down. Hans had mentioned this before back on the boat.

“Is it working?” Emryc asked just as he had back then. He didn’t need eyes to know the man was looking at him. The half Sephi couldn’t very well give Hans the piercing gaze he normally would then. He busied himself with casually manipulating the fire in front of him, tracing intricate patterns with the flames. It was a precise and strict manipulation of the Force, fine tuned skills that only a powerful Force user could attempt.

After a moment a tendril of fire moved towards the man, hovering dangerously close to the man's organic arm and tracing up along the length of it. It was enough to let the man feel the heat, the edges of the flames strictly controlled so it never touched him.

At last the smoke seemed to leave Hannibal the hell alone, floating off the side instead of directly into his damn eyes. It made looking across the fire at Rick awkward and was just annoying to boot.

It also seemed to the young Jedi that the other man's food had all but disappeared into his face. There he was just enjoying the ambiance and Rick had plowed right through the fish and finished it off with water. Hannibal gave him a sort of bemused look and took another bite of his own, just shaking his head.

The larger did man did answer his question afterward with the same three words he had before. Hannibal chuckled a little before taking sipping his water again and settling the plate down in his lap. Rick was certainly a consistent man, the Jedi had to give him that, but still confusing at the same time. Hannibal got stuck at wondering over that thought for what felt like the hundredth time in two days and forgot to immediately say something back.

At least until the fire started moving and he blinked himself back to awareness, watching the burning formation tumble and twist under Rick's influence. Hannibal rather enjoyed the little show even as a tendril approached his arm, eyeing it both warily and with yet more curiosity. His brows furrowed after a moment.

"Gotta be honest, I just see romance in holo stuff."

Rick would find a gentle, chilled breeze brushed very deliberately up and along his right arm, tracing the lines of toned and bronzed muscle he'd built up over time, like ice touched ever so delicately to bare skin from his wrist to his shoulder. It vanished a moment later and could certainly do no harm but somehow it felt like a fun way to play along.

Green eyes returned up to see silvers that still didn't quite look back.

"Never have I ever really figured out how 'love' and whatever's s'posed to work, so I couldn't tell ya. Don't need the gestures to go pants optional."

Emryc was quiet for a long time when Hans spoke. He himself had said those same words before. That it only existed in Holos. That it was all silly nonsense that was constructed. The half Sephi withdrew the flames, letting them settle back in front of him. He felt the ice against his arm, but the man would notice that the frost began to actually line his skin. It came from the Force almost manifesting his emotions in a way and anchoring to it being manipulated around him. The frost streaked up his arm and across the left side of his chest, giving an icy coating to him.

The half Sephi stared ahead of himself the entire time, eyebrows furrowing slightly. After a while, his fingers flexed and there was a crack and shatter as the ice crumbled and sprinkled the grass by him.

“It is not worth figuring out,” He stated curtly before he rose from where he sat. Emryc drew out his e-cigarra and wandered off towards the woods.

The response to his sheepish exposition wasn't exactly one Hannibal expected. First in the silence that followed was the frost that gathered along the other man's arm from strange flickers of the Force or, what worried the Jedi, possibly a mistake on his part. It quietly crinkled up along the limb to his chest and then Rick sent it scattering off into paper-thin pieces to the ground.

His curt words drew a surprised look and a confused
"Uuh..?" from the man as the boatman stood and moved away. Rick would hear the distinct sound of a hand meeting face and some muffled muttering behind it, then grass rustling as Hannibal stood as well and stepped quickly after him. Not only had he ruined the moment but he might've hurt the other man in the process.

"Wait, wait- is your arm okay?" he asked with obvious concern, "Let me look at it. I can usually just tell, but you're all-" Hannibal paused when he got close, squinting down at the previously frosted limb with a critical eye. He blinked. "Locked up," the man finished with a tone almost of realization or recognition. Emeralds traveled from the arm to Rick's face and back again.

Hannibal laid his living hand on the arm, frowned irritably, moved it to a different spot. He'd find his way in front of Rick if he'd let him and stare directly into his face again.

"I can't do it justice," he muttered, almost to himself. He spoke up a bit, sounding almost professional, his casual accent fading away midsentence. "Rick. Do you get light, shapes, anything?"

Emryc was in the process of igniting the cigarra when the man shuffled over after him. The half Sephi didn’t stop walking, still deep in his angry thoughts. However, they faded with each step he took and he had to remember the scars on his back. Emryc exhaled slowly, letting his thoughts get carried away into the night with that breath.

He felt a touch against the previously frosted arm and he paused. Emryc blew out a cloud of smoke before lowering the cigarra to his side. His sensitive ears had picked up all of the man’s self muttering, though Emryc addressed none of it.

Emryc knew the man was standing before him, Force Sight granting him a tall outline. The half Sephi’s eyebrows furrowed again slightly at the man’s question. For a moment he simply raised the cigarra to draw from it. He blew out a cloud of smoke, but it formed into a large ring that floated at the man with his head between it. No smoke would hit his face.

“Sight,” He said simply. The man would know that it simply meant shapes and outlines, and little else. There was no perception of light or dark and his world was entirely black otherwise.

Emryc, of course, couldn’t see the concern on the man’s face. He only had the man’s earlier words to work off of and little else. He took another drag from the cigarra and blew it out to the side. He liked it when the man ditched his stupid accent. Emryc's free hand came up to casually place at the man’s hip to tug him closer.

“I can feel just fine though.”
