Everyones heard it, but I want to hear some more opinions. PS4 or Xbox One. Want to get one, not both. What do you think is better and why?

Neither. Buy a PC.

Failing that, PS4 for the hardware, Xbone for the exclusives. If you <3 Halo, Xbone, if you don't care, PS4 all the way.

Honestly, gaming has stagnated too much for me to have an active interest in it. The most potential I see is in the handheld systems (and PC games, in certain cases.) FPS and light RPG games are just too dominating over the market for me to really find interest to sit on the couch and waste a couple hours. When I do, it's socially (and at someone elses') that gives me the fill for the occasional game I may want to play like Battlefront 3, or whatever may come out in the future, but I don't see myself really buying any consoles.

short version: I guess maybe 3DS and PC, but if I had to choose a console, WiiU. There's no worthwhile competition between the two 'big' consoles. Everythings a rail shooter or generic. I'd see myself upgrading my computer more than likely.

Well I stopped caring about Halo after the third game, but will probably get the Xbone just for Gears of War 4. And for Playstation, I never owned a playstation.

@Vulpes - you're missing out, there's a tremendous amount of innovation in the PC market right now. (AAA+ games nonwithstanding, but those have been rinse and repeat affairs for years and years now.)

The Valkyria Chronicles PC port alone makes it worth booting up your machine and playing, to say nothing of games like Starbound and Gods Will Be Watching.

Oh god I loved the Valkryia Chronicles game, just felt it would work a lot better on a PC.

That's how I refer to it.

Not a fan of the "PC Master Race" shtick, but yeah I would agree that PC gaming is where it is at currently. I supplement my PC gaming with some 3DS games and Wii U which covers all of your bases pretty nicely.

I may look into getting a One, but the only games I can see myself getting are the Master Chief Collection and Dead or Alive 5. All games I owned on the previous Xbox platforms...

Go PC if you can afford it, sure. Get a console though for the one you like. Just know they are no longer limited to just gaming, they are basically app boxes and BluRay/DVD players with addition to games.

I own a Xbox One, for Exclusives and I need a Blu-Ray player for my bedroom. If you cannot afford a PC, these are the way to go. I played both the Xbox One and PS4, and I like them both.

Chalk another up for the current PC + Wii U & 3DS combo, though if stuck choosing between one of the two beefier consoles, PS4 has likely got more future in terms of exclusives and performance when compared to the Xbox One.

Otherwise though, if something is multi-platform, unless the port is pretty darn shoddy (which you do somewhat have to watch out for, see: PC ports of Assassin's Creed), getting a decent PC put together (though its more of an up front cost for sure, even accounting for the arguments of the PC Master Race folk) will better future proof you, since you can brute force your way to the maximum settings, whilst still having controller input if need be because Microsoft does have some sense about them, and thus lets you use Xbox controllers so long as you have a connector and the proper drivers. Otherwise, the Wii U is pretty much running on nothing but exclusives now that developers aren't willing to port, and Nintendo is typically pretty good at that sort of thing. 3DS has the same but with the addition of being the best sold system of the current generation, so that does get third party support, even if sometimes shovelware.

On cost, Steam sales and things such as Humble Bundle make filling out your library super cheap and makes up some of the cost in building/buying a PC.

Hence, up front. Longer term its more likely to see reduced cost.

I understood what you were saying. I was just adding to your point.

To anyone going the build PC route I suggest PCPartPicker. It's what I used.

As Cortan and Johnny said, PC's have a higher entry cost but a lower long-term cost courtesy of Humble Bundle, Steam sales, and discounts at places like Green Man Gaming and Great Old Games.

Just remember that the cost of the tower is only part of the entry cost - you also need a monitor (assuming you don't have one), a decent mouse and keyboard, and a headset of some kind. That can easily set you back a pretty penny.

I used to go full-console, but after my 360's disc tray broke (it refuses to open and has been like that since May), I've mostly gotten into gaming on my laptop. Said laptop is rather generic and a few years old, and I'd like to one day get a nice desktop if I can find a place to put it.

When it comes to PC games I've gotten into RTS games. The Total War series, Sins of a Solar Empire, the Civilization games, etc. And I'm also really into Paradox Interactive's grand strategy games, particularly Crusader Kings II. I just wish my laptop could render the maps more smoothly and without lag. *sigh*

Oh, and, I got a 3DS XL in September. I haven't touched it much since beating Pokemon X (my only game for it) but I'm hoping for Omega Ruby for Christmas, maybe Smash Bros, and I'd like to get Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Thankfully, most televisions have HDMI hook ups, and while not typically at the same resolutions as a computer monitor, it has been completely serviceable for me. By no means cheap, but you can always piggyback off any television you currently have if it has the plug ins.

Keyboard, mouse, and headset probably set me back about $40 all together. None are "gaming" brands, but I've had no complaints for how they are used in games.

I vote PC. Especially if you download Steam for it as well. There are some excellent games out there for PCs right now; I have to say I'm impressed. While PS4 and XBox One have some cool games, I've just seen a lot of sequels and rehashes for those consoles. Nothing original like what I've been seeing with PC.

I can't play Farming Simulator 2014 on a PS4, just saying.

Which is disappointing because the early 360/PS3 years put out a nice handful of new IPs. One and PS4 not so much.
