The war has taken something from us all. Many of us who live in the Alliance try to ignore the war, we try to live our lives as though it did not exist. We attend school, play with our friends, drink at bars, and watch holovids as we fall asleep. But we can not escape this war, a conflict that is as inevitable as it is unnecessary. It seems as though the Empire and the Republic, or whatever else they choose to call themselves through time, are destined to go to war. Time and again this conflict has come, and time and again the cycle has repeated itself. The Alliance will lose, the Jedi will die, and the Galaxy will become oppressed, all in a bid to bring the Jedi back to who they once were. The Sith and the Jedi, each in turn, have tried to annihilate each other, and to no avail - for we are the same and yet we are different.

I have struggled to avoid this my whole life, to be normal, to go about my life in the vain hope that, somehow, this war might be different. My father and my brother fought to make sure that it would be different. But they were taken from me - Saleucami was the point where everything turned. The battle that had raged in space had stolen them from my life, and I could no longer avoid the fact that we would all be changed, for better or worse, by this war.

I can no longer avoid who I am - bound to the Force, struggling to understand the differences between the Light and the Dark Side - is there really such a thing? The chosen one was once one of the greatest Jedi, then too one of the greatest Sith, and finally, released from these conceptions, he became one with the Force. Maybe I, too, can find the Force - hopefully I will not have to walk such a treacherous path. I choose to be a Jedi, even knowing that I will lose this war, and that I, too, will die. I will do this, because maybe through this journey I will become greater than the self-interested person I was, watching holovids as my father and brother floated through space.

Composition and Appearance
Maya Sunfighter is a 24 year old 5'2" human woman, 116 lbs. with a fair complexion, long hazelnut hair and shimmering azure eyes. Though healthy and fit, Maya Sunfighter is nonetheless significantly weaker and less agile than more athletic people of her age and size. As a woman who has spent much of her recent life avoiding conflict, Maya's only real capability is her charismatic attitude and keen social awareness, and to a lesser point her ability to quickly learn new subjects, a trait gained through the years attending schools that many people, drafted into the war, have avoided. Maya Sunfighters is probably best identified by her remarkable dimples and the unique crinkle of her nose as she smiles, and secondarily by the clothing she likes to wear that shows off her body.

Personality
Maya is a sassy, independently minded woman who prefers to figure things out on her own rather than be lectured to, but is remarkably patient and attentive nevertheless. A natural socialite, Maya has a knack for convincing other people on the best course of action, though her lack of training means that she's not often able to reliably determine that course herself. Nevertheless, her charm and wit allow her to make unlikely friends and prevent hostile situations from escalating out of control.

Likes & Dislikes
Ever the urban plebian, Maya is a woman who loves to interface with technology, watch holovids and play games, and even go drinking from time to time. Maya has had several lovers in her life, but none ever so serious as to make her settle down, wed, and raise a family - a goal she would like to accomplish before she dies, if nothing less than as a tribute to the sacrifice of her father and brother. Maya's chief dislikes are idiots, ingrates, and the selfish, but she's also not extremely fond of bugs, slimy creatures, alien food, or even many aliens for that matter.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Maya's personal charm and good nature put her in many people's good graces and can often help her avoid what is perhaps her greatest weakness, fighting. Trained only in how to utilize blaster pistols by her father as a child, and without much athletic skill, Maya is best suitable for non-combat situations, though her fiery determination and stalwart bravery means that, despite her weakness, she is not averse to using violence to solve situations that cannot be solved by other means.

Abilities
Being raised in a military family has certain advantages, and though Maya has not utilized the skills her father has taught her in some years, Maya has a natural affinity for learning how to fire weapons, namely blaster pistols, as well as interface with technology and perform tasks like hacking or controlling remotes.

As well, Maya has a natural connection to the Force. Part of her charm and charisma entails manipulating her Force signature to mask her true feeling, an action which Maya has no conscious awareness of. She also has the ability to quickly heal other people's wounds in hours when they would naturally take days, though likewise the change does not occur rapidly enough for her to notice. As well, Maya is aware of her ability to see, though with limited understanding, what will happen in the very near future, something which has heightened her reflexes and helped her anticipate conversations. The only Force ability which Maya is currently aware is a Jedi ability is her limited telekinetic powers, which as a regular person she would use to entertain herself when she was bored but would never let her friends see, for fear they would revere her and pressure her to become a Jedi.

Biography
Maya Sunfighter was the last child born to an Alliance military family, her mother passing away during childbirth. Her father made time for her as necessary, often bringing his family aboard the small vessel he captained during times of peace. Aboard the vessel, Maya was taught well my her fathers communications droid in matters of history, math, and science, although Maya would often deviously hide from the robot and play games with him aboard the vessel. Becoming good friends with many of her fathers fellow crew men, the crew would laugh as the protocol droid would struggle to navigate the ship half as well as young Maya.

Maya's brother, Antoni, enlisted in the Alliance military when he reached adulthood and became a skilled fighter pilot, and Maya enrolled in a public university on Corellia. The conflict between the Sith and Jedi claimed the lives of her brother and father shortly after Maya had graduated from university with a degree in political science, a nearly useless degree which presented few job opportunities but helped to shape Maya's thoughts on the galactic conflict.

With the death of her father and brother, and a complete mobilization of the Corellian economy, leaving few job openings available for someone of her skillset, she was left adrift for a year before finally settling upon pursuing the one course of action she knew would best honor the memory of her family - joining the New Jedi Order.

Despite being accustomed to the coldness of space and the jarring lurch of a hyperdrive, Maya Sunfighter had never felt more exposed and vulnerable on her journey to Coruscant - a world under siege - than she did now, unsure of her future but eager to become the best person a Sunfighter could be.

I like the setup of the character.
The layout? Feel free to use it if you want :)

Thanks, it took me a while to think of a decent background for an "ordinary person" character, but I like the result and I'm glad you do too :)

She dresses like a harlot!

Game of Thrones quotes aside, she doesn't quite strike me as a 28 year old woman if we go by that picture but we can always say she looks younger than she really is. As far as her force powers go I think she may have a few ones too many starting out. Not saying she can't learn them in threads during her time as a padawan but she really is a novice force user... Pyrokinesis and battle meditation being the two big ones that she'll probably have to learn IC.

Otherwise an interesting character, with lots of potential. I do look forward to seeing her in threads given her background and approve of the Game of Thrones picture.

Peter - the actress that plays Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) is actually 30 :P

But he's right in saying that a character just starting out likely won't have access to Force abilities just yet, beyond perhaps one or two she's picked up as a result of observing lessons or perhaps even developed naturally. Pyrokinesis definitely wouldn't be among them, though - setting fire to things is a fairly rare ability (or at least, it's rare among the good writers!). Still, the rest of the profile reads well, and it's a lovely format.

What? *double checks* She's actually 31!!! Don't mind me then. I had no idea, always thought she was my age... >.>

Oh the profile kicks ass. I love it and think that she'd make a perfect padawan to a certain blonde woman. The only issue are the force powers, because as you said she is a novice jedi who just hasn't invested the time to learn those techniques.

Pretty good Character I must say, couple of things you might want to do.

Expand her Bio, explain how she joined the order and when, expand more on her past, especially since she is 28. you are missing what lightsaber form she is proficient at. If you are saying that she just joined the order, who taught her those force powers, especially who taught her/how did she learn an advanced technique like Pyrokenisis? Who brought her into the order? expand her relationships with her brother, family, lovers etc. this is important stuff in a character! Go in depth with this stuff, start with a summarry if you want, and then continually update and expand!

If you dont want to write too much, maybe make her a bit younger, (her picture looks younger than 28 as well), that way you dont have to explain or write as much.

you dont have to do this all at once though!

Just some constructive criticism, otherwise, its a pretty good character!

Alrighty, fair points on the Force powers, I'll cut them out. I was thinking she might have a natural talent for learning those ones, but even if she had talent at this point she'd still have no concept of how they work, so yup. Also, pyrokinesis isn't that advanced, depending on the ranking. I definitely wasn't thinking she could contain explosions. I'll explain the easier ones in her abilities description section.

The points about her age are pretty accurate, I was thinking of Natalie Dormer from The Tudors Season 1, which would put her closer to, what, 25? I can drop her to that. I don't want a teenage character, though, I don't think I have the mental cognizance to tolerate myself roleplaying a social teenager. I'll expand her bio some, but really writing biographies is kind of boring compared to writing RP's hehe.

Having this character as padawan to Targaryen would be pretty cool, I'd like to have mission based training moreso than classrooms, if you want.

sounds good, and i totally understand about the not wanting to do the bio, thats my least favorite part of writing a character, but its important to do! maybe make it 3 paragraphs??

Im always looking to take on a padawan as well btw! :)

Don't think she's your type of Padawan, Leucien. You very much present as a fighter-esque Jedi, so, very combat-oriented. Core put a lot of emphasis on Maya as a peaceful civilised woman, raised as a military brat but not militant, if my read of the profile is right. Strikes me more as a Consular-type Jedi rather than a battle-oriented character, possibly a Diplomat, since she's a natural socialite.

Yeah, I was thinking a diplomat, or possibly a Jedi shadow (not in the TOR sense)

Also, I'm not going to label a sword form because she's never touched a sword yet, and has no idea how they work besides "stick 'em with the pointy end"

Anyways, I edited it, expanded her childhood some and explained her force abilities in her "abilities" section.

Thank the Force, finally someone who doesn't automatically decide what direction they're taking before they've taken it. And to not include a Lightsaber Form? Exquisite. The number who jump in and say "Ooh, I've mastered/learned/vaguely heard of Makashi/Djem-So/Vaapad and therefore can kick your butt!" are both numerous and tiresome :p

Don't worry about cutting out the powers. She can learn them, if you decide to go that way, later on without much trouble. As far as the bio goes you can expand it as you go, but it could use a little beefing up.

No need to change the age. RP the character how you want her to, though do keep in mind that rather soon [in 1-2 months] we'll be having a time skip [probably between 8-10 years] so starting out at 25 might be a good move down the road if you'd like to avoid her age going up too much. Again your call.

As far as taking on more padawan, I've already got my fair share of those. I might however be able to take you on a mission along with whomever end up being your master.

Why? So you can wax about the universe poetically under their window? :CHappy

8 to 10 years?? Man. Maybe I should start her at 23, since a 5-10 age jump would work well then... maybe I should lower Yakiya's age too, he'll be the oldest Acolyte the Sith have ever had.

I believe poetry is a facility lost on Gabriel. I was thinking more along the lines of an elegant dinner on a skyline restaurant overlooking CoroNet.

That's up to you but I think 23 could pass. She finished college a year ago, just came to the Jedi. Chronologically it makes sense.

As for the Sith, that's pretty funny actually. lol

I know you were. Gabriel, always the charmer.
