PERSONALITY
[fancybox2]Before the crash, Lairiel was a fun loving little girl who loved to laugh and play. She was also naturally inquisitive, her sharp mind quick to pick up new things and learn them. Always seeking for new things to discover and new puzzles to unravel, she terrorized her parents to no end along with her sister from a young age. She was extroverted and not shy at all, quick to make new friends and learn everything she could about them, and genuinely interested in people like most children were. With a bounce in her step and a question on her lips, she saw life in full color.

After the crash, she went completely full circle. It wasn't an instant change, though there was a great deal of sadness and loss at first that curbed her zest for life. Then the voices came and bit by bit, they poisoned her thoughts of others and slowly convinced her that everyone who was close to her, asking her how she was and how she was coping - everyone who was helping her, they were just trying to get close enough to kill her. The closer someone was to her, the more the voices tormented her, and so she learned to shut everyone out and keep the voices at bay that way. Yet, there were still some signs of the little girl still inside of her, as she grew up training she picked things up quickly if she could learn them just by watching repeatedly.

Things she had to be taught were more difficult, and the more explanation something took, the more the voices would distract her and keep from learning them. As she learned to use the force she learned to suppress them somewhat, which let more and more colors come through. She still tried not to get close to others, as the voices would start to come back and become more insistent when this happened - but she had become able to function as someone that some would even term as 'normal', besides her introverted nature, since they obviously couldn't hear the voices.

BIOGRAPHY
[fancybox2]She was born to a mixed race family and a peaceful life with them on Ord Mantell. Her parents ran a junkyard; her fathers pride and joy though it drove her mother to drink some nights. She was a proud Arkanian, and who had ever heard of an Arkanian running a junk yard? She had somehow fallen in love with a man who did, and with the prospect of children on the way they had tied the knot and ended up with fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. They seemed an average family until the children were declared force sensitive at age six and were taken to Bastion to decide how they could be useful to the Empire. The trip was abruptly ended during the descent on to Bastion, their ship being a bit too much like home; it was junk. An explosion rocked the ship and it plummeted to the ground, the fail-safes barely keeping it in one piece.

She alone was pulled from the wreckage alive, though she had taken severe physical harm to the point of having to be resuscitated. It took her two years of recovery and rehab before she was able to be called physically 'normal' again. She was left with only slight physical setbacks, the only noticeable one being that her left hand moved sluggishly, and sometimes not at all when she was severely stressed. The time spent 'dead' left her with slight brain damage, complicating the hereditary intelligence usually attributed to someone of Arkanian descent. She was still smart, though most would simply describe her as being 'slightly above average intelligence'. She was afflicted with Paranoid Schizophrenia from the trauma of her crash, which manifested in the form of auditory hallucinations and slight paranoia. The Paranoia at least would come in handy amongst the Sith - because sometimes, everyone really is out to get you. It made her more reclusive and guarded as she went through training, which did not tend to make her any different than the other acolytes. She decided to focus on the first form, due to its focus on fighting multiple opponents. Believing that everyone was out to get her made it the most logical choice, and her mind was full of logic even if it was based on delusions.

Since officially joining the Sith, she had found trouble in making friends. It wasn't like she was an enigma; everyone was weird in the Sith. Most of them were more screwed up than she was, too. But the voices kept her from getting close to anyone at all. This culminated in her getting in to a fight with the first other acolyte she had any real contact with. She then proceeded to lose that fight, and it convinced her that she needed training. Before she could get that training however, she was summoned to go on a mission with some other acolytes. The ship that was carrying them to their intended target was shot down and hcrashed in to a swampy planet, where the acolytes together with a strange masked man were forced to fight for their very survival. It was only after she had gotten off this planet and the arm that had broken in the crash was healed that her life started to get a bit 'easier' among the Sith.

She met Mila Fay and after a quick bout of training where Lairiel pretty well got her ass kicked, she accepted and invitation to become the woman's apprentice. She learned quite a bit from the beautiful Mila, including finally constructing her own lightsaber and to get her own sense of fashion. She found that much to her surprise, the voices in her head seemed somehow alright with Mila - they never bothered her about the Crusader, it seemed, and that made her quickly open up and made some of her childhood zest for life return, despite Mila's best efforts to the contrary.

During a short break from the Sith, she met a Jedi named Jyn Rayder and quickly befriended him, not yet knowing that he was a Jedi. Through a rather strange series of events which included the death of quite a few people, Lairiel not only ended up with a nice new leather outfit, but also with a small freighter. The ownership was somewhat disputed between herself and Jyn, until she found out that he was a Jedi and took him prisoner. The ship was outfitted with an RX series pilot droid, which was good because Lairiel had no idea how to pilot a starship. She brought Jyn back to Korriban, in a bid to turn him to the Dark side.

She has currently accepted a 'request' to come to a spooky old mansion for training, she is still on a mission with Mila, she is trying to figure out what to do with Jyn and she is meeting another Jedi as well.

Okay.. I did have a few questions, if people don't mind answering! First off - is it plausible for her to be half Arkanian and half human/other humanoid race? I wasn't sure on that one, but if it isn't I can easily change her to just be a full Arkanian.
Second.. would the Sith accept someone with a mental dissorder? This one is kind of make or break for this character - but if they wouldn't, I can easily just do something else with her instead of making her a sith, with minor changes!

And.. any other comments/questions/criticism/things I need to change, please do tell, I welcome any and all feedback! Thank you for reading!

Oh, and I forgot to add that I wasn't sure if I put too many force powers there or not.. So feedback on that would be appreciated too!

Pretty sure it's possible to be an Arkanian/human hybrid, but I'm not totally sure.

As for the paranoia and schizophrenia... Well I can't actually speak for the Imperium but I would assume that if she could keep those mental problems under control there wouldn't be problems. But I'll let a Sith player confirm or deny it outright.

Otherwise, this is a pretty nice character!

Pretty sure Arkanians are near-human, or at least close enough that interbreeding is viable.

As for the mental disorders I'm sure you can join, but if you do something crazy that does harm to the Sith/Imperium than you'll have to own up to that. In any case Oncaro is right, it's up to Weiss in the end.

And looks very cool, can't wait to see where you take her!

Yep, Arkanian/human/near-human hybrid is entirely possible. Lots of people make hybrid characters with humans/near-humans, so no problems there.

Force powers look fine as well, not over the top in the least. You could actually get away with adding a couple more if you wanted to. Here's a list of Force powers and abilities that are available to Acolytes.

As for the mental disorder, I don't see why it would omit you from joining the Sith. The only advice I could offer with regards to it is take care in expressing that particular aspect in the RP. Mental disorders can lead to some murky waters and - in my own personal opinion - such things should be treated as secondary aspects of the character's personality, rather than the defining trait by which they are identified. Not saying I think you're going to come right out of the gate and start liberally playing the "schizophrenia card", just some friendly advice on how it might be more sensitive [for lack of a better word] to portray that particular trait of your character.

Other than that, I do like her. Quite a bit actually. She seems to have a lot of potential. If you'd ever like to RP with my Sith, feel free to ask.

Looking forward to seeing her around.

Just going to reiterate Gam's post and say that a mental illness is far easier to portray when it isn't directly listed and rather, left up to suggestion. For example, instead of stating that Lairiel is schizophrenic, describe individual symptoms and traits that she has to avoid potential inaccuracy. Mental disorders are intensely complex things to depict in writing. By showing and not telling via implication and description, you not only avoid the potential hassle of inaccuracy and insensitive portrayal, it's also much more interesting for a character to have a whole range of complex issues and traits, rather simply being labelled with a certain disorder.

For example, my character Andromeda is very likely on the Autism spectrum, but that's never directly stated, she's just written with a lot of related symptoms. My Sith Master Satoryu is a psychological basket-case and could may have well have anything from psychopathy, paranoia, anti-social personality disorder, etc... But these aren't explicitly defined, all that is are her traits that may or may not imply such conditions.

As for the Sith, we're all a bunch of messed-up nutjubs, she'll fit right in XD

In all seriousness though, auditory hallucination would prove an interesting challenge that she would have to overcome. Satoryu heard voices as an Acolyte, supposedly belonging to a ghost who possessed her XD

I love her first name. Crazy character's aren't really my wheelhouse, but I think you did a good job with her overall. :D

Okay, first of all... that list is amazing. Thank you very much for linking it! From what I can see on there, I should probably take Force Deflection off since it is under the Master list? I think I will go ahead and do that, and change my Force Powers around a little to more reflect this list and what she should have been taught/focused on. Thank you!
As for the mental disorder - that is a good point. I was hoping to have it come across as a defining point in her backstory, that kept her from getting too close to people. She would still be able to interact in a mostly normal manner until people started to get personal, which would cause her to grow increasingly distant. I'll have to look through and see if I can re-write it a bit to more accurately dsplay this, then!

Well, in this case - Schizophrenia actually has so many different symptoms and traits that even when stating she is a schizophrenic, there are at least twenty different ways it could manifest moving forward. I appreciate the thought of not stating what her illness is, but my thinking was that I didn't want people thinking that it stemmed from nowhere, or that I had personal issues with them if my character was distant. Perhaps it is out of being Canadian, but I didn't want to offend anyone OOCly based on RP things, if that makes sense?

And thanks to you two as well, I appreciate the praise and thoughts! I will leave her as a half-breed then, and will be sure to try not to do any permanent harm to the Imperium or Sith.. unless they really have it coming ;).

Edit: Have edited her to make the Schizophrenia currently taking a more back-seat role, as that was the original intent, and altered her force powers and light saber forms based on the post that Gamov linked!

It took her two rears of recovery and rehab before she was able to be called physically 'normal' again.

I found a hilarious typo! Two rears of recovery, must have been devastating! :1:

Updated profile with a template. First time using one.. I used Saul's like the profile says, though I changed a few things up (mostly because the roleplay list table confused me :P)

I told you I'd help with the RP list. But noooooooo. lol

Shiny new update though. And don't you think for a second that Mila is anywhere close to done trying to destroy that disgustingly bubbly attitude she's suddenly developed.

There is still much [st]torture[/st] training left to go through.
