Slugthrowers make you bleed while blasters burn you. Slugthrowers are more "primitive" and brutal. They do not provide such a "star wars-y" feel as blasters. Just wanted to clarify that.

EDIT: I was informed that slugthrowers are more primitive in the Galaxy than in real life, therefore, you will have to tone done the range. Sorry about the inconvenience

That makes zero sense imo, we have ftl travel speeds and guns that literally melt most metals. I guess I can, though.

What do you suggest I change it to? The wookieepedia page said that they could be effective from up to a mile away in the right hands, and a mile is 1600 meters. Should I aim for (pun intended) 1600m, or something less?

that would be max range. i would have optimal range much shorter than that.

The recommended optimal range for snipers is 500 meters, and projectile weapons are supposed to be kind of crappy, so I wouldn't have the max much above that.

Ok. Would 1000 meters be too much, since this is supposed to be built for distance over strength? Bullets can go farther than lasers, and the maximum optimal range for the MSBR-10 (a laser sniper that was considered generic) is 850 meters. In the writeup, I have the projectile-strength for different ranges listed, which I assume is pretty balanced. In comparison to the MSBR-10's 850 meter range with no damage dropoff, I think it would be acceptable to have a *slightly* higher range and lower strength per shot.

A projectile doesn't dissipate, plain and simple. It does, however, lose velocity as it travels and arcs downward. Arc the bullet and suddenly, what do ya know? It goes further.
Say what?! No way, Holmes! Uh-uh girlfriend! Oh no he didn't!

Oh yes I did! 1600 meters is 100% realistic for a dedicated sniping platform. The max range on an old Lee Enfield was accurate at over 2700 meters. Is that primative enough?
Seriously, if you can make a blaster and launch a ship into hyperspace you should know how to make a tiny piece of lead fly

Except the rules, and tech guidelines, state otherwise.

hey yeah no matter how much science and "Real world logic" you throw at this your still roleplaying in a universe where space ships make noise in space, there are laser swords, it's not weird for siblings to french eachother in front of future spouses...it's not realistic and this site is changed to have a balanced feeling and allows the numerous individuals to actually get somewhere in their rps. star wars isn't science fiction, it's a fantasy space opera.

So... Is 1000 meters too much, despite the example in my last post, or...?

EDIT: @Breeso I put the range at 1200m, is that still too much or is it good? Like it says in the description originally, it's only as effective as a light blaster pistol between 400 and 850 meters. People can't seem to agree because of bullet physics and the tech rules, so I'd like your opinion.

I'd bring down the max range to 900 metres, with optimal range being 600 metres.

Made the changes, thanks for helping a lot so far. Anything else I can do? :)

Sorry, gonna have to un-approve this;
A recordholder among slugthrowers, its maximum effective range (on completely unarmored targets) is approximately 900m. Despite this, it is only effective against armored targets as far away as 600 meters. (Strength at max range: light blaster pistol; 600-400 meters: medium blaster; 400-0 meters: heavy blaster rifle | Kinetic damage on impact, strength according to range.)
That is not permitted. Slugthrowers cannot have comparable power to blasters.

Not permitted? That was just a simple way of describing it, but okay. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

As stated in the rules, slugthrowers are weaker than blasters in every scenario - they would only be really effective against bare skin.

@Korvo I've changed the damage description, made it more specific than general. Let me know if I need to change it again!

Approval Rescinded (and this is why you don't review tech articles at 1:10 in the morning, folks!)

Range: A recordholder among slugthrowers, its maximum effective range (on completely unarmored targets) is approximately 900m. Despite this, it is only effective against targets as far away as 600 meters. (Strength at max range: pierces bare human skin; 600-400 meters: punches through ~4 inches of exposed human flesh, causes bruising through light armor; 399-200 meters: can pierce light armor, goes completely through an average, unarmoured human torso; 199-0 metres: Causes bruising through medium armor, punches through light armor with ~2 inches of bullet travel or more afterwards, depending on closeness, does fatal damage to unarmoured targets | Kinetic damage on impact, strength according to range. Very high impact at close range, very low at max range.)

Noticed this after a scrub buddy of mine brought it to my attention, but this can't fly. Light, medium and heavy armor represents coverage. This slugthrower punching through armor in a single shot actually makes it way stronger than conventional blasters. Gotta edit that away bro

@Korvo is impact better than piercing? Let me know if I need to change it again.
