As the title says, I want to know if this is possible and if so where to go to gain permission. I have never been a sort to make canon people or descendants, but I have some ideas on this to make a character that looks like Starkiller and has a bit of his personality, but is distinct and original.

Sorry, probably not.

You can use him as a concept, but not a cardboard cut out.

well there is a skywalker line on the site, so I dont think it would be impossible, but I dont know how likely the site leaders are to allow it....

Not a cardboard cut out. I am currently drawing starkiller wearing his jedi robe, but SWTOR Valiant Jedi armor involved with looks of oldness and both armors he would have inherited from his father. My character is a 1000 years down the road from Galen, but will still carry the last name and will give biography of what happened with the line. He will only look simular to Galen and have that same....temper, but besides that he will be completily original. Basically I just want permission to use the line and last name. Xalan Marek. Xalan is my middle name with an X and it even sounds similar.

You'll have to get admin permission to do it, if you're planning on it.

Any specific one you'd recommend? I just private messaged one, not sure if they are busy though.

Section two, rule C, part 2. There are some exceptions to the case, so I'll wait for an admin to shoot out a quick opinion on it. Ya' never know.

Also, just a heads-up, Starkiller is a really popular character that people use for their character's appearance, maybe because he's simple looking. not sure.

Aside from what has already been said, I think that it would be highly unlikely that a Marek is pouncing around a thousand years after Galen died. Galen never had relationships with a woman (He was romantic with Juno, but the farthest they got was a kiss) and he was then killed.

Who is to say the clone did not have the ability to produce children? I don't think the star wars universe covers clone reproduction, but it was clear that the clone had memories of Juno and after the end of the horrible second game maybe he went to her. It is never stated what happened to him as far as I know and so that is where canon can become non canon.

Why is it important for him to be a descendant of Garen Marek again?

To be fair, doesn't Boba Fett have a child, and he is a clone? Granted a lot of Expanded Universe contradicts itself, especially on the topic of Cloning.

I wouldn't say it is important, just something I was wanting to do. If I receive a no it isn't the end of the world and I will still craft him the same. Just the last name would be different. I just enjoy the history of Marek (the games were kinda poor) and would love to write about that line and expand on it.

Considering the fact that none of ocular proposed character's story hinges on being a starkiller descendant, the admins are unlikely to approve this.

Best to bld him under the idea that he's not.

If it doesn't contribute anything meaningful to his story and background, it's ultimately pretty pointless to include at all - especially if the only reason you want it is because it's "cool".

But I look forward to the character you put nonetheless.

You could always use a situation similar, but with just a generic Jedi/Sith/whatever is relevant to your story.

I wouldn't say it has no purpose besides being cool, in fact because of his descendant history it may create distrust from other jedis. I want it for these reasons:

1) The chance to create a rich history from Starkiller to my character. I plan to go all out.

2) I want to him to have to overcome his last name and the mistrust that may come with it.

3) I want him to use an advanced style of his ancestor.

4) He is inherting stuff like robes from starkiller

stuff like that.

Overcoming his last name? Not many people knew about Starkiller to begin with, and that was a thousand years ago. And no one knew him by his real name.

Outlander is very correct in this matter.

There are a few problems with those four points you've outlined, Hakora, so I'll just dot point some of them below.
  1. The history of Starkiller kinda ended at the end of the Force Unleashed 2, if i'm not mistaken.
  2. Again, per Outlander, Starkiller's identity, existance, and the things he did were ultimately very quiet throughout the galaxy.
  3. The style, sure - but he'll have to learn that through RP, as starting Force-using characters can't have more than 1 beginner-level lightsaber form (usually Shii-Cho).
  4. Robes? After 1,100 years? They surely would have deteriorated beyond any hope of wearing them.

I am unfamiliar with the Starkiller character, however, you will have to run it by an admin. And as you said, you did just that.

My advice now is that you wait for your response with patience. Until then if you wish to create a Jedi character without a Canon last name, I look forward to reading them over and welcoming into the NJO!

No! Join my maybe-I'll-make-it indie faction! Though I gotta admit the NJO here is way better than the Jedi in the OT, and NT. By better, I mean ideal. It'd definitely be cool to have someone *famous* along. (jk)
