Gemma had been awake for the last twenty hours or so prepping for her next mission. It was something that she didn't feel comfortable with, but she was aware that she needed to show her loyalty to the Cartel somehow and at some point. So this was her standing point. Currently, she sat in an uncomfortable chair in the middle of a rented hotel room. The first several hours were devoted to protecting the room and isolating her own signals within the deep seeds of the holo-net. The majority of the previous day was spent compiling networks into smaller versions of themselves. It was intensive, but Gemma was now sitting in the middle of a cramped hotel room only made smaller by the coiling snakes of cables and cooling fans placed around the room and strategically aimed to osculate and spread coolant throughout several large mainframe containers. She had successfully rebuilt the city's security system inside of a small hotel room.
Within the tiny room was somehow an entire reconstructed network of the surrounding city. Everything she would need for this mission without the requirements of gathering information and waiting for loading times. It was extremely efficient that even if there was a blackout, it wouldn't phase the mission. Generators hummed from the corner of the packed room. It was a fail safe; everything would run through the fake network first, if something didn't come up or her hacking didn't crack certain codes, the real network would not be notified. It would also make sure that once inside the real network that she would be permanently inside and never need to repeat some steps between hacks or programs. It was ingenious and Gemma was fairly proud of herself.
She huffed a deep sigh before her limbs reached in a cat-like stretch. Several sections popped with a satisfying tingle in her spine. She stood and walked over to the bathroom of the dingy room. She stopped before closing the door and scratched the back of her head for a second.
“Glitch, run encryption codes on everything within this room and tie it down to yourself before going dark. This is our time to shine for the Cartel so we will do our best. You should then refresh your mainframe by dumping all unneeded memory. Once refreshed, go to the candy store and reclaim all of our programs.”
“Yes, I will get right on that. If you are going for a shower I suggest you hurry, I will need assistance rebooting in ten minutes after I finish that list. We should also be expecting our company to be here shortly after that in order to begin this Hutt's ridiculous campaign.”
If she were caught on camera, which she made sure wasn't the case, she would be seen as a human who had lost their mind, finally snapped and started rambling to nobody as she was the only person within the cramped little hotel room, but across the room her datapad sat; blue LEDs glowing and flashing with the audio vocals of a male human the same age as Gemma herself.
“Glitch, what have I told you about getting lippy like that... I'll set you to speak Gungan-Basic if you don't cut it out. He gave us a job and we need the money. Besides, this is where I will prove to the Cartel that we are not to be pushed over. Now I am going to take this shower and you are going to run through everything I just mentioned without anymore lip. Understood?”
“Yes, Gemma, my apologies.”
The apology itself was a little sarcastic Gemma thought, but right now a Gungan-Basic speaking tool would be more of a hindrance than anything. Stupid Gungans. She closed the door behind her and began to draw the shower and flood the bathroom with warm steam.
