GIMME RIMMA

It had been a while since Preef and Gareth had reconnected on the planet Eriadu -former home of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family- and a lot had changed in the meantime. The rodian had struck a deal with the Grand Mogul of the Hutt Cartel despite two decades ago having been very determined to commit a genocide on the species. Then he was present when Nor'baal entertained the First Blade of the Empire and Covax, where they put both of his guests on carbonite, sold one to the ISC in return for the control of Tatooine and let the other rot. In the end the majority of the Crymorah Crime Families joined the cartel, Zaa Fenn, Xaa Hafven and Mothkari. Preef opened up the Belching Frog Saloon in Mos Espa and functioned more or less as the planet's governor for Nor'baal, who sat on his throne enjoying life at the top of the Outer Rim foodchain.

A lot of things changed, but not a quick-draw's desire to actually shoot his blaster every now and then. So here he was at the Sullust spaceport waiting for his old friend. They had decided to go after a pirate that's been terrorizing the Nimma Traderoute and agreed to made at this spaceport's cantina to discuss their plan.

Preef sat at the bar with the bottle of Eriadu Brandy in front of him with two empty glasses. He was in his fifties now, but for rodians you couldn't tell as easily as you could with humans. There was smoke rising from a scented cigarra dangling between his lips as he waited for the White Lion of the Zaa Fenn to arrive.

Unlike his partner in crime, it couldn't be said that Gareth had done much ever since he came out of hiding. He mostly spent time...Alone, taking space in Preef's new Zaa Fenn place; meditating, training...Sometimes out in order to do some soul searching or traveling to learn more about the force. The isolation, the time he spent alone for years with nothing but the dark side giving him company had left him...Unstable, it was neccessary for him to do a bit of soul searching, so he only did the odd job from time to time in order to do his part for a while now, nothing more, nothing less, just enough...And never for the slug that paid his Rodian friend.

He had made very clear his opinion on the man and his stance on working for him, there were only two reasons he didn't already try anything against him: One of them was, of course, that Preef was working for him and he didn't want to fight him, not the only person in the galaxy he currently trusted. The second reason, however, was a bit more complicated; He thought seeing his old enemies slighted would heal his soul, but when he heard the news about Covax...He felt nothing, he felt empty and he didn't even think it would've felt better if he had strangled him himself. What they set out to do today, however, had a better chance of giving him a bit of joy.

The White Lion entered the cantina, wearing a brown robe over him, looking more like a beggar than anything else, there was nothing boisterous about the Miralukan save for the white mane, the beard and his sheer size, not a smile, not a laugh, not a confident strut like he used to. No, he simply sat down next to Preef and waited for him to pour the bottle and get to talk. Despite appearances, he was looking forward to the bounty, this old lion had a thirst for blood and a need to hunt.

The figure that sat down next to the rodian was a far cry from the man Preef had once known. Even back on Tatooine and in Mos Eisley's Belching Frog Saloon, Preef had realized that he was always avoiding the rooms where Gareth was known to be meditating. Usually Force-users kriffed the rodian the kark out, but with Gareth it had been different. They went back to the time Preef was still a mere Enforcer for the Crimson Dawn and the Zaa Fenn Crime Family was still ruled by Shere from the penthouse on Eriadu. Ages ago now, it seemed.

"I always find that coldness of space is best remediated with a warming liquor," Preef said. smiling slightly, as he poured himself first and then Gareth a glass of the Eriadu Brandy. It had something nostalgic to it, drinking something that was distilled on Eriadu while being on the planet from where the Zaa Fenn Crime Family originated. Nowadays Preef didn't even use the Zaa Fenn name anymore and the group of gunslingers and Mandalorian warriors that usually surrounded him were called simply the 'Callo Gang' or, when referring to the Mandalorians they'd say they were part of 'Clan Callo'.

He slowly shoved the glass meant for Gareth across the bar towards him. "You ever hear of Lek-Ti the pirate?" the rodian asked his oldest friend, "Yeah, me neither." he chuckled as he brought his own glass to his lips, realized he forgot to toast and turned slightly to clink his glass with Gareth's, "To credits."

The warmth that strong liquor provided to the rodian's body was a welcome change to steady climate-controlled underground spaceport of the Sullust capital and he welcomed it as if it were the Twin Suns of Tatooine shining on his wet rodian's face. "Ahh," he sighed of relief, "that always does it."

A moment passed where Preef seemed to enjoy the sensation of the liquor sliding down and then refilled his glass, and Gareth's if he too had slung back the drink and emptied his glass. "Anyway, Lek-Ti is a pirate. Got himself a big ship, some starfighters and a hefty bounty according to the Bounty Hunter's Guild." Thirty years ago, Preef had actually earned a bounty hunting license by bagging himself -and a rather conspicious droid- a couple of Black Sun on the Smuggler's Moon. He hadn't used it much, but he reckoned he'd still be in the system. "Let's take him out for the good people that work the Nimma Trade Route," meaning to say that -since the rodian didn't care about these people at all- he was bored and needed to shoot his blaster a couple of times for something different than a mere warning shot to break up a brawl.

The Miralukan turned his head slightly as Preef began talking, giving him a small nod as he poured him a glass of brandy, Gareth had cut down the amount of alcohol he had been drinking, not too along drinking enough to make a Wookiee pass out, all in order to get himself back to bussiness and to hone his body again, but he would not refuse a drink every now and then.

"Never liked pirates." Gareth would say as he swayed his glass back and forth, letting the drink move gently as he talked "They lack discipline, focus, draw unwarranted attention from outside governments and do stupid shit like kidnapping the ISC president" Looking back at Preef, he would give the faintest of smiles "Whoever this person is, I sure don't ming getting rid of them." The White Lion would say, letting the drinks clink "To having an excuse to spill blood." He would add, he didn't care much about credits, never did.

Gareth finished his drink in one go as well, letting Preef refill it and then taking a couple sips from it while he Rodian explained the mission, a straight face on him while he explained how the pirates had starfighters, a big ship and what not "Well, do you have any plans to how to approach them? Enter their ship before it's too late for them to do anything about it?" Gareth would ask, downing the rest of his second drink in a moment before letting out a sniff and a grunt "Or did you ask an eyeless man specialized in punching people to come have a dogfight with you?" Gareth would say, the tone of his voice indicating that he was mostly joking about it...He at least hoped he didn't expect some quality piloting skills from him, the droids did most of the work for him.
