For any reason in particular?

It's pretty buggy, but it's still in beta obviously so that isn't a huge deal. Without going full on nerdrage/wall of text mode, the combat is pretty boring (lack of depth/positioning doesn't matter) and it feels like they took Skyrim or any other TES game and ripped out the fun parts (exploration, being able to do whatever the heck you want) and replaced it with some generic questing. The series as a whole is supposed to be an epic story that draws you into it's world. This doesn't do that. I played about twelve hours and could not care less about my character, the story, or what's going to happen when the main storyline comes closer to completion.

*cough* IT'S IN ****ING BETA *cough* *cough*

A Beta is supposed to entice you into buying the game. Crysis 3's did. Battlefield 3's did. If the Beta is bad (aside from bugs, that's another reason for the Beta), then chances are the full game is too.

I do not play MMOs, so I'm unsure of the exact differences one can expect between beta testing and launch day, but I can't imagine they would be groundbreaking?

Although alphas and betas are defined by development teams rather than by a set definition, games that have betas that the public can get into typically are not looking at reworking how the game plays. This game does not feel very fun for me at low levels. Fixing bugs, reworking UI elements, or adding proper voice acting (the build had placeholder robot voices) is not going to change that. I started playing expecting some level of storytelling, considering the Elder Scrolls has strong lore, but I didn't feel like any of it was meaningful.

Holy crap the robot voices were freaky the first time I heard them. I almost crapped my pants.

Let's be honest.

Was anyone really expecting this to not be a piece of shit?

Part of me is glad people are being turned off of it, aside from my general dislike of MMOs, but I'd really hate for focus to be taken away from the regular titles or the worse case scenario where it goes the way of Warcraft and stays MMO for years.

Want PC players to play together in Tamriel? Why not just include some sort of cooperative functionality?

Another thing that bugs me somewhat is that, you know, you can mod the hell out of any of the games in the series - but you can't do that with an MMO. My Skyrim save looked gorgeous, why am I gonna downgrade just to play with a bunch of strangers?

Agreed. Part of the longevity of the other games is being able to mod like crazy. Hell there are mods in the works for making Morrowind and Oblivion utilize Skyrim graphical assets.

So all I get from an MMO version is a watered down experience I'd have to pay monthly for just so I can faff about with other people. Hell, there are mods already to play Skyrim co-op that is a work in progress. I can only imagine what could be done by the actual development team integrating it into the game.

To be fair, ESO does have add-on functionality (noticed in the UI, but never tried activating it since I just assumed it was a WIP), though I'm not familiar with MMO add-ons in general so I don't really know how mod-able the game will be.

Also, it has been stated that ESO will not affect the release of future single player Elder Scroll games.

Generally speaking, add-ons in MMOs are different from the mods you'd get in a game like any of the TES titles. Just a quick example: in WoW you can install stuff that will change the user interface, display your buffs/debuffs in a more pleasing manner, or display how much damage you do to a raid boss. In Skyrim, you can change the terrain textures, add hairstyles, change the climate of certain zones, and add weapons/replace the models of other weapons. In an MMO, altering the game files is a bannable offense because it can easily turn into cheating. In an open world game like Skyrim, anything goes and for a lot of people that's the appeal.

I just don't think I like MMOs anymore. I used to, but the second I started playing this I didn't like it. I'll be looking forward to the next console game.

To clear up some misconception, the MMO is not affecting the release of an Elder Scrolls VI or a Fallout 4. If it was, trust me, I would be demanding they cease the MMO as well. But considering I like it, and I have a lot of RL and online friends into it, I am personally going to go into it. I've paid $15 a month for WoW for many years (hell, I still pay it and only log on every now and then to make sure my toon is not stripped naked and goldless in prep for the next expansion) and at one point for the piece of schlock known as SWTOR. $15 is chump change to me, and I do not mind paying a subscription fee.

Was not a fan at all, spent much less time playing it over the weekend than I had expected to. Still, it seemed like it was mostly a stress test, which means the terrible lag/ a ton of people not being able to play was "reasonable". From what I experienced though, I wouldnt buy/play it.
