"What the varp is that?" Ty exclaimed not for the first time since landing on Dxun. Thrice now, he had been startled by resounding echoes of otherworldly screeches hailing from deep within the lush evergreen. Everything in the jungle seemed to have been specifically designed to kill anything or anyone who did not belong there.
Even something as mundane as breathing seemed to be more difficult on Dxun: the air was heavy with the scent of the afternoon's torrential rain and a myriad of intertwined aromas emanating from the surrounding vegetation, most of which was entirely alien to Ty'kh. As dusk stained the glistening foliage with shadow and murk, Ty'kh knew his struggles were only just beginning and he had had to fight against his better instincts not to abandon his mission.
Owing to his Mandalorian heritage, or so he had been told, Ty'kh had been chosen by the leadership of the Crimson Dawn to travel to Dxun in hopes of recovering the horn of a Zakkeg, a vicious armored apex predator indigenous to the Onderonian moon. Having almost been hunted to extinction by Mandalorians seeking a sturdy substitute material to construct their armor when unexploited sources of beskar had become scarce during the crusades, Zakkeg were now listed as a protected species under the New Republic's Endangered Species Protection Act.
Ty'kh had landed his spacecraft in the hangar of an abandoned Czerka research station he would use as his base of operation. Although it had long since been reconditioned into a haven for smugglers hoping to benefit from the convergence of Onderon and Dxun atmosphere to evade planetary border control and transport smuggled goods from off-world, the complex remained mostly unoccupied. Ty would spend the night within the relative safety of the facility and hoped to make the most of the daylight the next day.
