Based on new Canon there's no real example of a non-force sensitive using a lightsaber as far as I'm aware, let alone a droid. With a lightsaber being a weapon heavily connected to the force I'm assuming that's a definite no.

I have a Mandalorian Jedi Hunter who trains with Lightsabers to be used as tools to defeat Jedi. Doesn't use them often, or with much finesse. I don't see why not, as long as you don't play him like a sword master.

Thats actually incorrect, there are plenty of cases of non-force sensitives using lightsabers. Most of them without skill, but one case i can think of off the top of my head using a lightsaber with some degree of skill. And lets not forget Finn from TFA.

A non-Force user would never be able to block blaster bolts or contend with a Force-user with a lightsaber, because they lack the reflexes and precognitive ability to detect threats before they appear. I see no reason a non-Force user couldn't pick up a lightsaber and use it just like a vibro-sword. But they could not use it like a lightsaber.

Well, a droid can be given enhanced reflexes and analytical abilities so they can become Grievous-esque. That's the closest I can think of - to wield a lightsaber to its fullest potential, you have to be Force-sensitive.

Grievous was a cyborg, not a robot, and I'm not certain he (his organic parts, that is) wasn't Force-sensitive.

Of course, in the scope of RP, the Force means nothing. The precognitive abilities and increased reflexes do nothing to prevent Joe Ordinary from blocking Darth Vader's lightsaber blows with his humble phrik walking stick on a text-based RP.

Yeah after posting the reply I remembered the dark saber thing and a few other examples, I like totally blanked xD I guess I was trying to say more that a non-force user wouldn't use a lightsaber as effectively as a force sensitive, so there wouldn't be any insane advantage outside of the blade's composition and the ability to block other sabers and maybe a blaster bolt or two. Plus the question would be can a droid be programmed to use a lightsaber, which while possible there would be no way it would have the same skill and precision gifted through using the force in combination with a lightsaber.

Technically speaking, I see no reason why you couldn't do this. Grievous was not Force-sensitive, and Finn (whether he is or not, we'll probably need to wait for clarification) was at least not Force-trained, but both could use lightsabers in combat. No reason you couldn't do it too, you just wouldn't be able to use it like a Jedi.

Even if a droid had the "mechanical" knowledge, it's quite different when it comes to application, since fighting involves a lot of instinct and experience, not just "training". There's also the fact that attempting to use a lightsaber to a Jedi-esque extent might not be permitted at all, as that would be pretty sophisticated (and sophisticated tech is something we're trying to veer away from, since that has a cascading effect)

That's why I said Grievous-esque. Nevertheless, Grievous' lightsaber ability came entirely from his mechanical enhancements.

And I wouldn't know about how viable this is in PVP, though I assume it should function just fine all the same.

There are multiple instances of droids wielding lightsabers in Legends canon; the Jedi used training droids with practice sabers, I believe.
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

In Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (The game) there are 'training droids' who use lightsabers. They can't block/defelct fired shots, but they can.. run at you and hit you with their lightsaber.

However, I believe this game also counts as Legends now.

Grievous was actually a Kaleesh from a warlike tribe, and according to legends, utilized swords. While his skill came, in part, from his enhancements, they had a heavy base in his past.

He was, but Kaleesh use metal weapons, not lightsabers. They wouldn't be able to handle a weightless blade with that level of proficiency. And the mechanical speed/computational augmentations were absolutely critical to him using lightsaber or else he wouldn't be killing very many Jedi.
