Ask Corporate Warfare: Cleanup

Tensions had been somewhat high in the Corporate world since the news broke.

Rumours of data plagues would do that.

So would allegations of sabotage and suggestions of more from significant players.

Therefore Julia and the board had moved swiftly to call a meeting and get to the bottom of what had happened and what would happen next.

It would occur in Blackwell Tower, on the top floor of their operational HQ on EttiIV. Unfortunately, some board members would need to holo in due to the short notice.

Julia, however, attended in person.

Walking into the room, lit by floor lights around the perimeter, she took her assigned seat around the vast circular table which dominated the space. In the middle of the circle stood a holoprojector, which she used.

Playing the news coverage of the alleged attack and the indications of the impact on their share price, she looked around the room and opened the meeting once everyone had arrived.

"You all should know why this meeting has been called." The doors to the room slid shut, a communications jammer slamming into place to prevent any eavesdroppers as the meeting kicked off. "I will hand over to our CEO momentarily to elaborate on the facts, but I need to reiterate that today's purpose is not just to understand what has happened but to reassure our shareholders about the long-term operational surety of their investment."

She paused, before concluding "And, to understand what the next steps are concerning our competitors and how this mishap impacts our plans. On that, I have some suggestions, but will wait for our CEO to bring us up to speed first."

[Newton]

What a mess. Oh well. This was inevitable as soon as the news broke-out and no time was wasted in it being called. The Blackwell CEO attended in person too at the operational headquarters. There is no delaying or dancing around it. The CEO needed to be here to that's where he is.

The CEO would take his his seat in the middle. Newton is wearing his normal stoic expression on his face, he prepared for this meeting knowing it was inevitable. He listened to Julia speak and now the CEO has the floor. Newton straighten his posture as he would turn to face the board room. "Alright." Newton would dive into it as asked of Julia "Heres what we know: Very recently the HoloNet reported that Czerka Corporation has stated they detained several 'beings' in their custody who were infiltrating a couple of their locations. At one of the locations, they were attempting to install a dataplague. Czerka left out a number of details in the media" Of course they would

"Czerka Corporation wasted no time in blaming Blackwell as culprits behind these acts of 'industrial sabatoge'. I have already made a statement that we are not responsible for this and not engage in such acts. And that our focus is our customers first"

"But nonethless the damage is already done and the media report can't be undone. Our stocks and PR have taken hits while our competitor's Czerka's have rallied. That's where we are now " Newton hated having to say that last part, it was digusting to admit. He nodded his head one as he ended. He summarized the media report, the board members should be up to speed. "I believe that was everything. Are there any questions?" Newton asked.

[Emryc Thorne]

Emryc stared at Newton as he recapped what they already knew. The half Sephi leaned forward slightly in his seat, his icy gaze piercing into the CEO, “Are our hands clean in this?” He asked flatly, “If there is damage control that needs to be done, we need to know,” Everyone in here was a crook, after all. Emryc took the damage control step regardless, but if Newton was lying to his face, the man would have a lot more to answer to. Emryc needed to understand exactly what actually happened to close off any loose end.

TShe studied Newton has he spoke, and listened as Emryc gave his reply. His tone confirmed her suspicions - something didn't add up here.

Julia drummed the fingers of her right hand on the tabletop. If Newton was hiding something, he was placing them at risk. She didn't like risks.

"I have doubts. There are to many coincidences here, for this to have occurred so close to our business with a few elements of their board."

 

[Newton]

Newton won't hide it. These board meetings are private, confidential, and no one here is a saint. Plus as Emryc said, they can do damage control. If they know the fullest extent then they can take appropriate measures. "My hands are not clean." he simply stated, not being afraid to take responsibility for this blunder. "I, as an anonymous entity - and without using any Blackwell resources or anything that can get traced to us or me - contacted slicers and agents in the underworld to steal data from the Czerka HQ and plant a dataplague to sabotage their HK droid factory on Telos with a dataplague. Also, mercenaries were hired to sabatoge a deal with with Czerka and Zygerrians. There have been no reports about it yet." he said in a quiet, straightforward tone.

Newton would grab his personal datapad on his person, push some buttons, and was prepared to give it to Emryc, should he want it. It would have names/aliases of those involved and additional details. Even Newton was unnerved by Emryc's gaze. He's too powerful.

It's all out to the board. So what now, will Newton be dismissed for brazenly putting a big risk factor on the company? Maybe, Newton thinks it's a possibility. If so, oh well. It was a fun ride he guesses. He steeled himself for the various negative receptions that would come out.
